to buy La Mer?

I was given a free sample recently and fell in love. I googled it and knew it would be expensive, but wow. It's mega money! I can afford it (just) but don't know if it's worth it. I mean how good can a skin cream really be?

Does anyone use it? Is it really amazing?

My friend went to see a hospital dermatologist who told her his family including him all use the body shop body butter as a facial moisturiser. I now use it in the winter when my skin goes really dry. It is the consistency you're looking for OP

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 15/06/2019 09:20

In tried La Met thinking that it would be amazing - but was bitterly disappointed and just a little bit relieved as it is horrendous money.

Kiehls is good. I have dry skin, but not as bad as yours sounds - I use figs and rouge and monuskin. Both definitely cheaper than la mer.

Don't get the hype about the Aldi cream, but each to their own. Some people can't just slap on any old shit and wash their face with cheap soap.

BananaCatto · 15/06/2019 09:20

I have extremely dry skin but what you describe seems worse than I have it.

I can highly recommend a dermaplaning facial. It removes a layer of dead skin and hair which helps your skin to actually absorb skincare. You can also DIY the facial but I would get the first one done by a professional.

Sometimes I’ve spent so much money trying to find a cheaper moisturiser than if I had just bought the stuff that actually works in the first place!

GreenwoodLane · 15/06/2019 09:37

I use this. I have very dry skin and it’s fantastic. £20 for a big bottle in boots

Get a pot of Astral, it was 99p in my local chemist.

AnnaMagnani · 15/06/2019 09:51

If your skin is that dry you need to change up your whole routine.

I'd specifically think about what you are washing it with and if you are stripping it - for body changing to real soap or SLS- and soap-free shower gel. Cleanser - are you oil-cleansing instead of using wipes/anything that bubbles (will have SLS in it)/micellar water.

I have ezcema but managed to give up moisturiser and steroids just by changing my wash routine - I was doing more harm than good each time I was washing.

schoolsoutforever · 15/06/2019 10:02

I've tried the Aldi one a few times and everything I come out it a horrible rash. It's very perfumed. I really recommend superdrug vitamin e nightcream. It's about ÂŁ4 a pop and very moisturising. Worth a go maybe first?

sergeilavrov · 15/06/2019 10:03

Different perspective here. I would suggest La Mer as a night cream. Think of it as a mask that will settle into your face overnight - not necessary every day. The pot lasts a long time, and for me has given me luminous skin (I’m 29 though, so may have different impact on different skin stages). I use Charlotte Tilbury as day cream and use sunscreen daily.

Do I love la mer? Yes. Do I own too much of it? Yes. Is it worth it if it’s at the high end of your budget? No (and that’s speaking as an addict)

Mamabear12 · 15/06/2019 10:12

I’m lucky, my sister just gave me two pots, plus one bottle w spf of le mer. I never would have bought it, but now thinking when I run out I will, as I do like it! However, you can find other creams that are cheaper and probably work just as well.

alwayscoffee · 15/06/2019 10:16

My skin is like yours and I use Eucerin body lotion on my face. I spent hundreds of pounds (or more) in my twenties trying every cream and have used this for about 30 years as it it the only one that works. Even better a large bottle is about ÂŁ15 so the best cream is an affordable one.

BusterGonad · 15/06/2019 10:20

Op check out the experiment that the daily mail did, I can't link but just google Le Mer vs Nivea daily mail.

herethereandeverywhere · 15/06/2019 10:25

I use La Mer. I've tried most of the other options on here and they give me spots. La Mer doesn't but it gives me lovely glowy soft skin.

I use the 'thinner' moisturiser (can't remember the name, in the cylindrical bottle with a pump) as the thicker cold cream stye one was too much of a faff and didn't spread easily.

Also the lip balm - once you've tried it you'll never use anything else, it's amazing.

Asgoodasarest · 15/06/2019 13:21

If you can afford it, do it. I love the stuff and a pot lasts for ages as a little goes a long way. If you buy yourself one pot it doesn’t mean you can only buy this from now on.
I also second the lip balm!

Spaceprincess · 15/06/2019 17:22

Blue Nivea at night, keep it on the radiator..

WhiteRedRose · 15/06/2019 17:28

Using Superdrug brightening hot cloth cleanser and Green aveeno gets just as good results tbh. If your skin is dry it's either hormones or your cleanser/moisturiser is making it so. If you use a moisturising cleanser too then it eliminates half the problem.

obviouslymarvellous · 15/06/2019 17:28

Blue Nivea has almost the same ingredients- if you google it there was a comparison between the two and the Nivea one came out better! I switch between elemis marine and others but always end up back with Nivea - it's just amazing!

BusterGonad · 15/06/2019 17:33

I totally agree with using a thick moisturizing cleanser, I never use a face wash as it dries me out too much. At the moment I'm using a fluid type moisturizer but due to its ingredients it actually does a better job than done thick moisturizers! It's especially for dry sensitive skin and is a Korean brand. If you love the Le Mer and can afford it then get it!

Madbengalmum · 15/06/2019 17:33

I use La Mer and am regularly asked what cream I use as i am told my skin looks glowing and or dewy. I love the feel of it and a little goes a long way. The likes of Astral et al are not the same, i just find they make my skin congested and oily. YANBU OP.

LoafofSellotape · 15/06/2019 17:37

Blue Nivea is the best cream and I've tried loads.

NeckPainChairSearch · 15/06/2019 17:39

I used La Mer a few years ago and really rate it. My skin sounds similar to yours OP and it suited me. And no, Nivea blue cream et al didn't have the same effect at all.

However, for the last few years, I've been using Dr Haushka Rose Day Cream and for very dry skin, it's just glorious. I like it as much as La Mer to be honest.

MissLadyM · 15/06/2019 17:42

Please don't! It's bollocks. Try Elemis x

Mia184 · 15/06/2019 17:52

Weleda Skin Food or Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream. You can buy tiny sizes to try whether they work for you.

jaggynettle · 15/06/2019 17:58

Try Astral cream - it sounds like the consistency you're after and is much more affordable Smile

redspider1 · 15/06/2019 18:01

Aldi was proved to be the same OP.

Nicknacky · 15/06/2019 18:04

There is two blue Nivea in production, one of which is available in the US and has similar ingredients was La Mer and I get on well with that. The Nivea in the UK doesn’t have the same ingredients so I buy the US Nivea.

I love La Mer though, it really suits my skin.
