To ask for your help...due on my period 2 days before my Wedding day!

Posting here cos I know I'll get a response and didnt know where else to post this.

I'm getting married in July and just worked out that I am due on my period 2 days before the big day. How do I delay it? (Not just from a sex point of view btw but I'm normally very heavy on day 2 and 3 and obviously going to be wearing a white dress) I can also usually predict my period within a day give or take so don't think I can just hope that I'm late as that's never happened before. I am not on any form of contraception due to a history of DVT during my pregnancy (so had to stop Microgynon), and the other pill I was given made me a bit loopy. It doesn't seem likely that I will be prescribed Norethisterone as everything I've read suggests you shouldn't take it if you've ever had a blood clot. So what the hell am I meant to do? Pleeeease help me 😭

My period arrived on my wedding day. It really didn't bother me, meant I didn't have it on our honeymoon! Sorry not very helpful, but I wouldn't worry about it. Have a wonderful wedding!

Lockheart · 13/06/2019 19:17

You need to see a doctor, unfortunately none of us can snap our fingers and delay it (although I wish I had that power, it would be so handy).

Cathpot · 13/06/2019 19:19

I don’t know enough about the hormonal options in your situation but if you can’t delay it , could you look at getting some of that underwear that is built to be leak proof?

Notnownotneverever · 13/06/2019 19:21

What about trying the period pants? They are supposed to be very good. I read a review (maybe Cosmo or Red magazine?) that said Modibody ones were good even when really heavy/flooding. Are you due a June period to test them with?

Monstermissy36 · 13/06/2019 19:21

You can get pills to delay it, you can buy them from Lloyd's online tho I suppose best to see GP!

reytmardy · 13/06/2019 19:21

Boots sell heavy period relief tablets. They reduce the period to virtually nothing . Just ask at pharmacy counter

Monstermissy36 · 13/06/2019 19:22

I don't mean contraceptive pulls but medicine especially that will delay a period. I took it when I went on a driving camping tour of Europe! Campsites and periods 🙈

SaveFerris1 · 13/06/2019 19:23

Norethisterone from your doctor. Take it for 3 days before your period is due and keep taking it. Once you start don't stop until you're ready and then your period will start about 3 days later.

TheSharkInTheDark · 13/06/2019 19:23

I know I will probably have to Lockheart but I just wanted to know if there actually is anything else other than Norethisterone that I can take or anything else I can do. It would be lovely wouldn't it, I'm sure all of us would never have a period again of we had the choice Grin

I will add I'm wearing a short dress and I don't like tampons so I feel like I will be so self conscious all day Blush

I won't be able to take Norethisterone due to having previously had a DVT.

Deafdonkey · 13/06/2019 19:26

Everyone is recommending norethisterone and you are right there are so many risks I'm not sure they allow it.. I'd make an appointment with the doc, they might allow it with clexane? I've no real idea tho sorry I really feel for you as my periods are hateful and it would ruin my day.

TheSharkInTheDark · 13/06/2019 19:26

Oops Cross post, thanks for the replies.

Will definitely look into the period pants they sound great! I've already had June period so won't be able to teat them though.

DH will just have to make due with a blowjob 😂 poor him haha

My friend wanted to delay her period for a holiday so she took a spoon of apple cider vinegar every day and that worked for her

Afternooninthepark · 13/06/2019 19:28

What about some tranexamic acid and a mooncup?

TheSharkInTheDark · 13/06/2019 19:28

reytmardy do you know what they're called and have you used them before?

OP posts:
justanswerthephone · 13/06/2019 19:29

The patient leaflet for norethisterone tells you not to take it if you have had a DVT.

There are some warnings that say consult your doctor before taking, but for DVT it says don't take it.

simplekindoflife · 13/06/2019 19:29

I take tranexamic acid tablets for heavy periods, really lightens the flow. Maybe try those?

CreekyBeaky · 13/06/2019 19:30

I had exactly this problem, went to the docs and they gave me mefenamic acid which delayed the period for as long as I took it. I’m not sure of the criteria for prescribing it, I do have a history of feinting when AF arrives so they were quite sympathetic.

TheSharkInTheDark · 13/06/2019 19:34

Think I've found the boots heavy period tablets but apparently you shouldn't take them with history of DVT either Sad

DippyAvocado · 13/06/2019 19:36

If you can't delay it, how about getting some of the period pants to prevent any leaking? I think there are quite a few brands available now.

KimchiLaLa · 13/06/2019 19:37

The GP can prescribe something to delay it. Can't remember the name. Began with N?Exactly the same happened to me and they did that for me, in the end it didn't come anyway!

KimchiLaLa · 13/06/2019 19:37

Sorry just saw you said you can't take what I'm thinking of!

DippyAvocado · 13/06/2019 19:37

Oops, just realised they were suggested already!

Personanongrata80 · 13/06/2019 19:38

I think your GP could prescribe medroxyprogesterone which is suitable for women who can’t have norethisterone. Definitely worth making an appointment to discuss.

TheSharkInTheDark · 13/06/2019 19:38

CreekyBeaky just looked that up and looked promising but then says you shoudn't drink whilst taking it.

Didn't realise things would be this difficult. Bloody DVT Angry
