To ask for your help...due on my period 2 days before my Wedding day!

Posting here cos I know I'll get a response and didnt know where else to post this.

I'm getting married in July and just worked out that I am due on my period 2 days before the big day. How do I delay it? (Not just from a sex point of view btw but I'm normally very heavy on day 2 and 3 and obviously going to be wearing a white dress) I can also usually predict my period within a day give or take so don't think I can just hope that I'm late as that's never happened before. I am not on any form of contraception due to a history of DVT during my pregnancy (so had to stop Microgynon), and the other pill I was given made me a bit loopy. It doesn't seem likely that I will be prescribed Norethisterone as everything I've read suggests you shouldn't take it if you've ever had a blood clot. So what the hell am I meant to do? Pleeeease help me 😭

Noresthisterone should be safe to take even with a blood clot previously to tbh it has a lot of negative side effects (can cause spots and a lot of bloating in some people). I would recommend going on the POP from now until your wedding. Should control the bleeding and is a lower dose so better tolerated. Even if it made you ‘loopy’ in the past I’m sure you’ll cope for a couple of months! People often blame the pill when it’s other things. Otherwise mooncup + pad/period pants should see you through (contraception specialist nurse here)

Personanongrata80 · 13/06/2019 19:40

Careful with progesterone if you are prone to acne though as they can break you out which you don’t want on your wedding day

Rosejasmine · 13/06/2019 19:42

Another drug for stopping bleeding is Tranexamic Acid - my 17 year old DD1 is prescribed it for heavy periods as the hormonal pills are not deemed great for her due to our family history of breast cancer.

Kittywampus · 13/06/2019 19:42

What about cerazette (progesterone only contraceptive pill)? It normally stops your period or at least reduces the flow.

Thecowinthemeadowgoesmoo · 13/06/2019 19:42

My period arrived on my wedding day. I knew it was highly likely to! I don't really like tampons either but I used them as it was just one day and wore period pants as I didn't want to worry about leaks! My dress was quite close fitting so I was worried about a pad being noticeable!

theculture · 13/06/2019 19:43

If you can't delay if it I recommend these;

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Menstrual-Period-Briefs-Jacquard-Panties/dp/B01HXTQ9DC/ref=pdawwfbt1933img2/278-1370758-3009453??encoding=UTF8&pdrddi=B01HXTQ9DC&pdrddr=bd9ef91c-8e0a-11e9-b539-07b4f8dbbc7b&pdrddw=CJVyT&pdrddwg=ACW2d&pfrddp=2ef3f294-3d5d-499e-861c-c3dd12069854&pfrdd_r=ZPY01D7W4Z773STZX1SM&psc=1&refRID=ZPY01D7W4Z773STZX1SM

I use these with tampons and pads as very heavy periods like you on day 2/3 but feel very confident when wearing them

How are you going to carry all the sanpro?!? Sparkly little bag?

funnystory · 13/06/2019 19:45

You need medroxyprogesterone, it's the alternative to norethisterone that has a lower risk of clots. Need to start taking it 3 days before you're due to start your period.

Hiphopopotamous · 13/06/2019 19:46

You're right Norethisterone is a bad idea with a previous DVT but your GP can give you Provera instead. If you'd left more time you could have tried one of the forms of contraception that tend to stop periods altogether, but it's a bit of a gamble.

DH will just have to make do with a blow job

Tbh if you're sober enough to even think about it on the night, you did the wedding wrong Grin We were so hammered we only just about managed to find our house.

SleepingStandingUp · 13/06/2019 19:51

Pregnancy?

TheSharkInTheDark · 13/06/2019 19:52

When do you have to start taking the pill for it to stop your period? I thought you had to start taking it on the day you start your period? I took Microgynon for 10 years with absolutely no issues I wish I could still take it, used to back to back all the time 😭

I can't remember the name of the other progesterone only pill I started taking after DS, began with F I think, was truly horrible so I threw them all away. I could see if I could try Cerazette, my sister takes it and gets on ok with it.

I was due on on my wedding day Angry and normally as regular as clockwork but I think with all the excitement, I came on a week late Smile Fingers crossed that happens for you.

TheSharkInTheDark · 13/06/2019 19:53

Sleeping that really would have to be a last resort 😂

I give the best blow jobs when I'm really drunk though... apparently anyway Wink

If no meds are suitable, I find a mooncup leaks a lot less than pads or tampons and you could wear period pants as back up. Just have some wipes in your bag for your hands when changing the mooncup to be extra safe with your dress.

Dec2019mumtobe · 13/06/2019 19:58

I had the same problem and did two things:

  1. got a "cup" and learnt how to use it a few months before. I was confident if my period did come, I could put that in and not really worry about my dress for the entire evening. (I had a late wedding)

  2. I went to the doctor and asked for tablets to delay my period for a few days. She prescribed me some. It was that easy. I THINK you can even order them from Superdrug and pick them up without seeing a GP

BlueCornishPixie · 13/06/2019 19:59

What is it your worried about OP?
Is it leaking or sex or being uncomfortable?

There's a menstrual cup type product you can wear during sex, ive never tried it but supposedly you can wear it while you have sex as it sits right up on your cervix.

You could go for that and combine with some period pants during the day with it. That way you don't have to carry sanpro around and it won't feel like your on your periodm

I think realistically if you want to stop it you need to go to your GP, the problem with delaying it is you don't want to delay it till your honeymoon!

Dec2019mumtobe · 13/06/2019 19:59

Ahhh sorry, I just saw that you don't want tablets.

TheSharkInTheDark · 13/06/2019 19:59

Thanks for that theculture, will probably buy some of those anyway as they look really comfy. Will definitely need nude for the day as I tried white knickers on with my dress and you could see them.

And you're right about sanpro..BUT we are staying in the hotel where we are actually getting married so hopefully my room won't be too far to just pop to the loo as and when. If not my sister can do her bridesmaids duties and take care of them!

Kind of all 3 to be honest Blue

TheSharkInTheDark · 13/06/2019 20:02

Also we are not honeymooning until next year so don't have to worry about that of I can delay it.

Definitely looks like I will have to go to the GP...now the issue I getting an appointment.

feistymumma · 13/06/2019 20:02

Ask for norethisterone - it delays your periods. You can buy it over the counter in Boots and other pharmacies. Start taking them three days before your periods are due to start.

justanswerthephone · 13/06/2019 20:06

@feistymumma

RTFT.

MorganKitten · 13/06/2019 20:08

Ask your doctor for Norethisterone

TheSharkInTheDark · 13/06/2019 20:16

I don't think anyone wants to justanswerthephone 😂
