To expect Asda not to sell biscuits 16 months out of date?

Just that really.
Was in our local Asda this morning and a big family pack of choc bics were on offer for £1. Normally £2 so I bought 2 packs.

DS(11) got in from school and opened them, noticed the choc on biscuit looked weird so showed me. The chocolate had bloomed so I looked at the best before date and it was 02/2018! The other pack was the same.
Disgusted tbh. Is it worth me returning them?

I don’t think I’d feel as outraged or disgusted as you seem to feel. Obviously they shouldn’t be selling biscuits that are out of date. It will just be a mistake.

I’m sure that they will give you your money back. It’s inconvenient for you.

They're not 'out of date' as such, they are simply not at their best. It is highly unusual for a supermarket to be selling product quite so far beyond its best date, but it's not a 'use by' date, which is legally a very different kettle of fish.

Asda wait until the very last minute to put things in the reduced aisle, so often it's mouldy. They should be pulled up on it because they are being slack.

Not unusual for Asda, that's why I stopped using them. They once delivered me flour that was 5 months out of date and full of insects.

GreenTulips · 13/06/2019 16:58

Similar happened to me I returtned and they offered a replacement or double the money

It’s not illegal to sell out of date food though

My local co-op sells out of date food for 10p to reduce food waste. Its great and I can stock up the freezer with just out of date bread and fruit I'm going to use that day or cook with.

I took popadoms back to Morrisons because they were a couple of months out of date (checked the date after opening them because they tasted stale). They gave me a refund plus a £10 voucher.

BarbaraofSevillle · 13/06/2019 17:34

I can't believe they've had biscuits hanging round so long to go out of date.

The biscuit aisle in our Asda looks like the proverbial plague of locusts has stormed through it most evenings.

They must have fallen down the back of the shelf only to be retrieved months later.

I bought a packet of penguins in Sainsbury’s once that were 8 mth past the best before, took them back a few days later and got a refund. Picked up another packet and they were 8 mth past there best before, not sure what was going on with their stock rotation 🤷‍♀️

CassianAndor · 13/06/2019 17:39

why are you asking if you're being U? Do you actually think there's a chance that it's fine for Asda to be selling biscuits that old??

I would definitely take them back!

myhamster · 13/06/2019 18:32

Obviously YANBU OP. All you need to do is email the customer services. They will probably give you a £5 voucher or something.
