To be fed up with neighbors oversized back yard pool?

With the lovely weather we've been getting lately the neighbors have decided to setup an inflatable pool in their yard right next to the flimsy wooden fence separating our two properties. It's so close that part of the blow up pool is bulging through one part of the fence into my yard. This in itself isn't a problem for me, but the way in which the pool is being used and the amount of racket that is being cause because of it is driving me up the wall.

There's kids in it from dawn till dusk and they're playing quite violently, splashing and yelling etc, and sometimes I hear the fence itself shuddering from all the impacts, there's water gushing over the side into my garden and about 6-7 times a day they come round to my door asking me to return a giant inflatable flamingo, or some other pool toy that's flew over the fence.

I've had a chat with them and asked the parents to calm it down a bit, they seemed to just shrug it off. I'm just stuck here hoping the damned pool bursts from all the playing but it seems indestructible. AIBU to consider stabbing a big hole in it overnight for some peace and quiet? I'm taking suggestions as to what sharp tool to use for such a task Grin

Just looking at the MetEireann site and I'm assuming your problem is solved. Shit weather across the country with temps of 11-15. Not pool weather even by Irish standards.

Stick through fence, problem solved.

A small slit along the seam and then go out. When you come back complain about the water that has soaked into your garden and ask that in future they empty it some other way.

Eistigi · 13/06/2019 14:47

NewFoneWhoDis You're west and I'm east and it's equally as miserable here! OP must be in the middle where all the sun is Grin

LoveYourHome9 · 13/06/2019 14:54

Hi OP,

I’m guessing your not in the UK.
By yard, I’m guessing US but could be wrong.
Do you have a HOme Owners Assosication? Any chance they are not complying in some way that could be highlighted?

We are not allowed oversized blow up pools or to cause an undue nuisance to our neighbors. Otherwise we will receive a notice!
Keeps everyone in line!

No outdoor Christmas lights left up around here!

Butterflyone1 · 13/06/2019 14:55

Gosh what a bunch of kill joys!

makingmammaries · 13/06/2019 15:06

Butterflyone1, try living with a horde of incessantly screaming kids throughout the daylight hours, you’ll soon get tired of it.

PeoniesarePink · 13/06/2019 15:11

You need to nail something to your fence.... with the longest nail imaginable.

Oops.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/06/2019 15:14

I'm refusing to switch my heating on on principle that it's June!

RabbitseatDogs · 13/06/2019 15:15

Isn't it time you put that trellis up? It's been sitting down the side of your house for ages! Obviously make sure the nails are long enough to anchor it securely, you wouldn't want it blowing away with the flamingos.

Mitzimaybe · 13/06/2019 15:55

Caveat: I don't know about Irish law, might be different.

In England, if your neighbour's plants overhang (or grow through) your fence, you are legally permitted to prune them back to the boundary line (tree protection orders excepted.) As long as you give the prunings back and don't keep them. So I would treat this pool the same way:- prune it back, with a saw or a nice sharp pruning knife, to the boundary line, and give them the prunings back.

@LoveYourHome9 go on treat yourself and read the thread......

murree · 13/06/2019 16:05

BruceAndNosh This was my thought - flooded garden anyone!

DuchessDarty · 13/06/2019 16:05

Would you like to puppy-sit for me one afternoon at my house? My pup is adorable and looks like butter wouldn’t melt.

Unfortunately though she’s going through a bitey stage and her favourite game is tugging at partially visible things and trying to pull them through gaps with her needle-like sharp puppy teeth.

DuchessDarty · 13/06/2019 16:07

Er, I meant your house obviously.

youarenotkiddingme · 13/06/2019 16:09

"With the hot weather we've been having..."

Here you'd could have filled the damn pool with rainwater Grin

Yanbu though.

BentBaastard · 13/06/2019 16:10

@LoveYourHome9 RTFT 🤬🤬🤬

ShiveringCoyote · 13/06/2019 16:11

I'm in the Midlands and it's been chronically shite weather here. It's so bloody cold.

Pipandmum · 13/06/2019 16:21

Don’t the kids go to school? I have an in ground pool and I sometimes do feel a bit self conscious with the noise the kids playing in it can generate. But is only a handful of times, usually it’s just us and it’s not noisy.
I think if you live next to a family you can’t do much about general kids noise when playing outside. The pool damaging got fence, water getting splashed over and toys is another matter. If you can no longer enjoy your own garden then it’s time to consider further action (report to council like you would if they were having bon fires) if the owners don’t move or downsize the pool.

Horsemenoftheaclopalypse · 13/06/2019 16:25

My vote is for 2 or three slugs overnight. More might look suspicious

another vote for this 👍

mumwon · 13/06/2019 17:15

We had a house with a massive garden which had a strange sunken area. Turned out it used to be a swimming pool. It is no longer a swimming pool because the neighbouring farm's cows escaped from the adjoining field and trashed it.

Could work?

VenusOfWillendorf · 13/06/2019 17:30

Am in a clear minority here, but I'd say leave them at it.

The window of opportunity for pool use in Ireland is TINY! Between the four days of summer when it's actually warm enough and the hose pipe ban coming in after about two consecutive days of no rain - we're not going to be talking weeks on end of pool use. Pack a picnic and take yourself to the beach! Grin
