pre registered cars: pls help me decide

post here only for traffic: about pre registered cars

I am not sure if anyone knows the difference here. I went to a dealer and decided to buy a pre-registered car. Two colors are available, red and grey. Red one is 200£ cheaper than grey one. Though I prefer grey one, I chose the red one eventually, because of the price. In the afternoon, I got a phonecall from the salesman and asked me if I would like to swap my car to the grey one, because they have reduced the grey one to the same price as the red one. The two cars are the same specification. The grey one is claimed having 50 miles on it, but actually when we were inside the car, it show 12 miles there. And when we checked the status of these two cars, the red one is on SORN but the grey one is taxed. Is it possible that the grey one is actually used by the dealer themselves and then the milage was changed by them? Really like the grey color but not sure if we should go for it. Please help me

I'm a car dealer and that isn't an issue. We advertise all your pre-regs as 50 miles. A couple of test drives could put 30 miles on and if they're advertised as 10 miles and theres actually 30 on, some arsehole will complain.

Of course you could just be paranoid and go for the car you dont want because of the 0.0001% chance a main dealer will risk losing their franchise and their business by going against manufacturer standards and knocking 38 miles off a used car.

Why are you fussing over £200 when you are buying a brand new car??Confused

Bufferingkisses · 12/06/2019 22:49

Dealers of brand new cars are not going to "wind back the clock" (which you cant really do any more) to get a few miles?! Its illegal why would they risk that fir the pence difference it would make in price? More likely the grey was sold with tax and the buyer pulled out.
Not sure if it's still the case but new cars used to be below 0 mileage to allow for test driving.
You're being bonkers. Mostly because You're quibbling over £200 to get the car you want when you're buying a pre reg. That must be a fraction of the cost?

Thanks, I feel much relieved nowGrin

no, We already decided the red one. then the salesman contacted us later and said We could get the grey one for the same price, which makes me think if there Are sth unusual abot the grey one, so they want to get rid of it quickly.

Go for the grey one

MorningRichie · 12/06/2019 22:54

No. Youd indicated you wanted the grey one but budget seemed to be an issue. As long as the paperwork hadn't been done, I'd always call a customer to offer their preference in those circumstances.

I am truly baffled at your thoughts though.

They might have someone who only wants the red one and who won't consider the grey one. Knowing you preferred the grey, they can sell both this way.

midnightOK · 12/06/2019 22:56

Thanks for all your replies. do appreciate that. We would go for the grey one for sure. Happy endingGrin

Also, just to add ref the SORN/ Tax - which ever car you choose, grey/red ... You'd have to tax it straight away, tax no longer is passed over Wink

midnightOK · 13/06/2019 22:27

Thanks for the reminding, OldSpeclkledHen. the car Is one year old although hasn't been driven before. that's the main reason I kind of Being skeptical over everything.

go for whichever one you REALLY like best.

the mileage difference is unimportant, as others have said. My son bought a Clio pre-reg. They had black and the special metallic red they do. We preferred the red, but he really wanted the black. Was a good deal, and a god car for him.
