To think it’s physically impossible for some women to regain their pre-pregnancy shape?

Did your shape change permanently after pregnancy? I used to be a UK size 10. After I had my baby I lost all the weight (about 30 pounds) quickly but found that I was struggling to fit into some UK size 12 jeans/trousers. I don’t think I am carrying any extra fat - it’s as if my hip bones themselves have expanded. Is that even possible? Is there anything I can do to be thin again? Or am I stuck like this forever? Give me some hope please! I hate dwelling on “trivial” stuff like this when I should just be grateful for my beautiful, healthy baby, but it’s really getting me down. I feel so old and frumpy and I never thought that would happen to me.

I found similar after having DS nearly 5 months ago. The weight seemed to come off really easily and I'm actually about 10lbs lighter than I was pre-pregnancy, but still can't fit into most of my pre-pregnancy jeans Sad

I took ages to lose weight after having DD, and having always been slim, it took a while to adjust to new shape. I had an emergency c section too, so I never thought my tummy would go back to normal.
However, when DD was around 3, I went on a massive fitness and healthy eating drive (running several times a week, once a week with a personal trainer, and nearly every day doing 30 Day Shred) and lost loads of weight and looked better than I’d ever done.
Went down to size 6-8, when I’d been generally a 10 before, and body shape totally changed. BUT it wasn’t that sustainable (was low carving too) so am back to a size 10 now.

In terms of size I’m completely the same but my waist no longer goes in at the side.

TheLetterOfTheLawTheLetter · 12/06/2019 21:07

I had the same after ds1, I was all bump and even flat tummy straight after (that is NOT happening this time) but my hips and rib cage both expanded! Zips on the back of dresses would be inches apart. I felt so frumpy. And then, one day.... it went back! Dresses fit again (no weight lost). I know it isnt always the case, but I was lucky enough to go back to normal first time. Cant remember when, I think ds was close to one ...

britnay · 12/06/2019 21:08

my ribs expanded! I went up two back sizes in my bras. A dress that fitted pre-pregnancy would not zip all the way up, and it sadly wasn't my breasts stopping it! Finally 3 years after second baby they seem to have gone back. Weird.

fricken · 12/06/2019 21:09

My nose has grown bigger and not gone back.

Seriously I just gained weight on my fucking face, both pregnancies. I definitely didn't have "the glow".

ohnonotagainagain · 12/06/2019 21:10

After DC1, lost all the weight plus another stone (had been a bit chubby pre-pregnancy) Am now 2 months pp with DC2 and am slowly losing weight but still have a monstrous tummy. My mother says it's very hard to go back to pre-baby shape after the second!

meow1989 · 12/06/2019 21:10

My hips and ribcage seem wider (though I am also carrying some extra jiggle!)

fricken · 12/06/2019 21:11

I was literally Jabba the hut, neck upwards. And a size 8 with a belly neck down. Utterly ridiculous!

Lenny1980 · 12/06/2019 21:11

My doctor told me it can take a couple of years for your hips to return to normal and that was pretty accurate for me.

Gin96 · 12/06/2019 21:12

Yes after my second, I weigh 9st 10 at 5’4 so not fat but 10lb more than I used to be, i’m wider hipped, I just look a completely different shape, I am nearly 50 so might be my age as well

TulipsTulipsTulips · 12/06/2019 21:13

My ribcage is bigger too! I really hopes it goes back. My youngest is almost 2

MiraculousMarinette · 12/06/2019 21:15

My feet have gone a size up during pregnancy and stayed that way. My dd is 8 now so it's not even like I'm a new mum or anything.

AnneLovesGilbert · 12/06/2019 21:16

My body is mostly the same 12 weeks on though I have a whopper of a hip to hip CS scar and a slightly rounder belly.

What I can’t bloody shift is the body and face hair! I’ve always been mostly hairless from the eyelashes down, never grown underarm hair, but I got peach fuzz on my cheeks and neck and my lower back and it hasn’t gone Shock

Crabbitstick · 12/06/2019 21:17

Quite common for people to go up a shoe size post pregnancy too.
I’m definitely wider but have less stomach fat.

SarahAndQuack · 12/06/2019 21:19

Yes, it's very normal. Your ribs and hips expand, and sometimes your feet.

During pregnancy, your hips and ribs move outwards to give the baby room to grow. In forensics and archaeology, this is how they assess whether or not a woman seems to have been pregnant, and whether or not she's given birth.

You might go back eventually, but you might not. I had a couple of pregnancies when I was quite tiny (size 6 and then a small size 10, with a 28/30 inch ribcage), and I found my ribs never went back. It's not the fat on them - it's definitely the bones moving.

Readytogogogo · 12/06/2019 21:20

I'm another one with bigger ribcage and waist. I only had a year between pregnancies, hoping it will improve at some point!

managedmis · 12/06/2019 21:21

YANBU. My ribs stick out more, they've totally changed shape! Also, my wrist is bent due to carpal tunnel.

managedmis · 12/06/2019 21:22

This. I'm pretty slim but still have sticky out ribs, making me look bigger

Jinglejanglefish · 12/06/2019 21:25

My feet went up a size. Pretty annoying having to buy all new shoes on SMP.

user1489792710 · 12/06/2019 21:31

Yep same here! The whole body shape has changed as I used to be more pear shaped but now more a sack of potatoes with sticky out bits. Agree with nose and feet getting bigger.... my DH very kindly always says I look better than ever! Probably to stop me whinging:::

Arrowfanatic · 12/06/2019 21:34

I had my last baby 6 years ago. I'm lighter than i was after her birth but after 3 babies in 4 years my stomach is sort of loose. My hips are wide, my ribcage is wide & I've lost my waist.

Weird i can be lighter than ever but bigger.

BlackeyedGruesome · 12/06/2019 21:41

Feet got bigger here too.

The progesterone relaxes joints to allow room for baby to grow and be birthed.

sirmione16 · 12/06/2019 21:50

I hired a PT Grin from size 10 to size 12/14 back down to size 10 but with an even better figure but damn did I work for it and it's taken me months
