I’m 12 weeks with my first pregnancy and have horrific nausea and vomiting and generally feel shocking. Every now and again I’ll venture onto the pregnancy boards and they seem full of tales of people with morning sickness that never ended, who had horrible labour and / or who had 101 things go wrong. I’m sure it’s a bit like review sites where you’re more likely to leave a bad review then a good one, but it’s so demoralising!

I know that things do go wrong, but I just thought how nice it would be to have a thread full of “my morning sickness cleared up after the first trimester” and “actually labour was manageable” memories. I’m sure I’m not the only one who could do with the hope! Confused

I had an amazing pregnancy with DS1. No sickness, but of heartburn but manageable and was able to work right up to the day he was born, although he came a bit earlier than planned (36 weeks +5). Labour was hard but had DS2 so couldn’t have been that bad 😂.

Nausea is horrible, had it until 16 weeks with DS2, but it did stop and rest of pregnancy was absolutely fine. Hope it clears up soon for you and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy xxx

I'm with you, @GoldPaperStars - I'm 12 weeks tomorrow and I really don't feel very well at all. I have a new boss too so I have to be really switched on at work, which is so hard and I come home from work exhausted.

I'd love to hear from people saying "oh yes, I felt much better at 13 weeks, had a wonderful boost of energy . . . " 😄

WoogleCone · 12/06/2019 19:54

I've just had DD2, my nausea finished at 12 weeks! 2nd and 3rd trimesters were pretty breezy, although I grow big babies so ended up with a section on just under 24 hours notice as she was way too big and the risks for vaginal birth were high. Honestly though, as scary as I found that idea, I had an amazing experience with an all female theatre team and 12 days later I'm much further in the healing process than I expected.

She was 11lb 8oz btw! Shock

Bibijayne · 12/06/2019 19:56

I had a few complications in the third trimester. But an easy labour and my morning sickness had totally gone by 14 weeks. So I was pretty good for most of the second trimester.

mynameiscalypso · 12/06/2019 19:59

I had pretty terrible nausea for the first trimester but mine did clear up just when you'd expect it to at 12 weeks or so. Now 30 weeks and have zero physical complaints - my insides feel a bit squished together but that's it. I don't even need to get up for the loo in the night or anything like that. If it wasn't for the bump, I wouldn't know I was pregnant. Hope you do feel better soon!

LadyRannaldini · 12/06/2019 19:59

No morning sickness x2, felt brilliant, not really tired, dinghy racing til about 6 months. Never read a thing about pregnancy, or discussed anything with anyone, far more interesting things to do, worked on the principle that millions do this every day, how hard can it be?

I honestly think that some people create their own problems of expectations, especially if it doesn't go as per the current faddy book.

Celebelly · 12/06/2019 19:59

I felt like crap until about 15/16 weeks and then great from 20ish to 33 or so.
Then I felt huge and uncomfy but not unwell.

Labour was shit BUT it was one day in my life and I said to DP the next day 'I could do that again if I had to'. It's pregnancy that I wouldn't want to repeat! It's a bit of a cliche about forgetting everything when your baby is here, but honestly it's all so hazy when I look back on it now and we both emerged safe and healthy. Just try not to worry about it - it has to happen one way or the other and it doesn't last forever!

stayhomeclub · 12/06/2019 20:00

I’ve felt nauseous until about 15 weeks but after that it’s been absolutely lovely. I’ve had the odd cold or uti but beyond that it’s been a breeze and I’ve loved every minute. I’ve been able to relax and just soak it all in. Currently 38+6 and as much as I’m ready for him to arrive, I’ll really miss being pregnant. Ive had heartburn but nothing gaviscon can’t control and I’ve been able to stay active. I honestly didn’t expect such a positive experience.

rosettesforjill · 12/06/2019 20:02

This time round, I got through labour on 2 paracetamol, TENS machine and the pool, with some helpful mindset preparation from hypnobirthing. Also - I found the pushing much less painful than the first stage!

First time round I had an induction with epidural. Epidurals are amazing as well 😁

Glitterblue · 12/06/2019 20:05

I had no morning sickness, barely any pregnancy symptoms. My baby was premature BUT I found the c section not too bad at all, the first couple of days it was really sore but by about day 4 I was loads better and even better after a week.

I loved being pregnant, I didn't have any sickness, slight nausea and felt good (on the whole) and still had my stilettos on until the day my water broke.

My water birth had a few complications but it was definitely manageable. I recommend hypno birthing, pregnancy yoga and just take it easy and enjoy it (if you can)

If I wanted more children, my pregnancy or birth would definitely not be a factor to even slightly put me off.

Congratulations and all the best 💐💐💐💐💐💐

TitusAndromedom · 12/06/2019 20:14

No morning sickness, very easy pregnancy apart from heartburn. I did hypnobirthing through the Positive Birth Company and stayed so calm that things progressed a little faster than anticipated. Baby was born on Christmas Eve in our bathroom, caught by my husband. Paramedics arrived five minutes later to find us all calm and well. If you advance search you can find my thread on here from the night she was born. And, she’s a super lovely, happy baby, so I couldn’t ask for any more.

EvilHerbivore · 12/06/2019 20:19

I had a horrific pregnancy with DS1 - vomiting every half an hour from 9-35 weeks, spd meant I couldn't walk from 32 weeks, had abdominal surgery at 20 weeks pregnant BUT had an amazing labour
Was calm and relaxed and went really well, felt like superwoman filled with all the endorphins in the world doing it
Also because I'd felt so utterly crap pre-labour, I felt great afterwards and was up and running around a day after

Congratulations!

Labour was not only manageable but actively enjoyable at points (x3: one epidural, 2 drug-free births, all great and I wouldn't change much about them)

I am due again in October and can't wait to give birth again - a physical challenge but really, really worth it.

I felt genuinely great after about 14 weeks with both of mine (except for a bit of SPD at the end, but I have joint issues normally anyway). I had two lovely home births that were both quite straightforward. Generally positive all around.

SinkTerranium · 12/06/2019 20:25

I felt much better from around 16 weeks. I had a huge burst of energy and cleaned the entire house, albeit in just my pants as I was so bloody hot Grin I remember going to my 12 week scan, finding out I was actually 13 weeks and wanting to weep at why I was still feeling so poorly.

It also got easier as the bump got bigger too, mainly because people are a lot more helpful/sympathetic when they can see the pregnancy!

Labour had complications but I still felt really positive about it. It was a long labour and I ended up with sepsis, but baby only needed a tiny bit of assistance to come out (ventouse and two pushes!) and I was very very well looked after. I also felt so well after giving birth (after the sepsis had been treated obviously Grin)

With all three of mine my morning sickness started to ease around 14 weeks and was fully gone by 16. Most of my mum friends say that it stopped after first trimester for them. Honestly it does for most of us. Ginger biscuits and plain crackers both helped a bit everything else people suggest gave me no relief at all.

There are lots of great things about the second trimester, your skin and hair are great and hormones make you feel really positive. Also you've made it to a stage where you can start telling people and planning for the baby,

You'll be there soon Flowers

Daffodil2018 · 12/06/2019 20:26

14 weeks was the turning point for me. The nausea stopped and the fatigue lifted completely. I then felt great until I hit about 34 weeks when I started to get pretty tired again.

I also had a boringly straightforward labour and delivery - 8 hours long and no pain relief or interventions. I am not saying this to show off or be smug but please be assured that it can go well!
