I’m 12 weeks with my first pregnancy and have horrific nausea and vomiting and generally feel shocking. Every now and again I’ll venture onto the pregnancy boards and they seem full of tales of people with morning sickness that never ended, who had horrible labour and / or who had 101 things go wrong. I’m sure it’s a bit like review sites where you’re more likely to leave a bad review then a good one, but it’s so demoralising!

I know that things do go wrong, but I just thought how nice it would be to have a thread full of “my morning sickness cleared up after the first trimester” and “actually labour was manageable” memories. I’m sure I’m not the only one who could do with the hope! Confused

I was only sick a few times during pregnancy. Had bad heartburn a few times but that was it.

Had to go for a trace at 20 weeks as they thought the heartbeat was slow but it was fine. Also a growth scan at 36 weeks as I was measuring 33 but she was fine.

Went 8 days overdue and again it was fine. Even being overdue was okay. My leg hurt a bit with my sciatica but that was only the last week or so.

Labour was okay. Sore but manageable. I got to 5cm dilated before I went to hospital and then she was born 4hrs later. Even while in labour I was talking about the next one!

I had diamorphine and gas and air and it kept it all at an even level. I've actually had period pains worse.

I was cut during delivery and tbh getting stitched hurt more than the actual labour!

Sorry for the essay.

With all three of mine my morning sickness started to ease around 14 weeks and was fully gone by 16. Most of my mum friends say that it stopped after first trimester for them. Honestly it does for most of us. Ginger biscuits and plain crackers both helped a bit everything else people suggest gave me no relief at all.

There are lots of great things about the second trimester, your skin and hair are great and hormones make you feel really positive. Also you've made it to a stage where you can start telling people and planning for the baby,

You'll be there soon Flowers

By nature I am quite an anxious person, depressive and inclined to panic, however during pregnancy I was absolutely content and enjoyed it. Also had an uncomplicated labour and delivery. I realise I was fortunate but it isn't that unusual.

I had a really smooth pregnancy - only really started aching towards the end but as I'd put on two stone that wasn't surprising! I barely changed my diet - just cut down to one caffeinated tea a day from three (and I don't like shellfish or blue cheese anyway). I think one of the reasons I stayed so healthy was that I kept exercising - I cycled to work til 7.5 months and had my last swim the day before I went into labour, so I'd advise doing as much low impact stuff as you can fit in.

Newmumma83 · 12/06/2019 20:44

Morning sickness cleared around 23 weeks

Labour was text book 13 hours .. first 9 hours I was fine, better than gallstones ... with last 4 were hard going but me and baby were fine the whole time it just hurts to push a human out 😊 I had no pain relief other than a little gas and air .. forgot to take paracetamol even.

Just take it how it comes ... if you need help
Or pain relief ask... everyone has a different level of pain tolerance mine is pretty high by the time I got to hospital
I was ready to pop ... pain was beyond my tolerance but was too late ... but I just zoned out between contractions the last couple of hours just disappeared... and 6 months on I can’t remember the pain I just know it hurt x

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 12/06/2019 20:45

Didn’t have morning sickness with either ds.
Ds1 3 hour labour, gas and air
Ds2 1 hour 40 min labour, gas and air

Bambamber · 12/06/2019 20:45

First daughter the vomiting stopped around 14 weeks. Had an uncomplicated pregnancy, had as straightforward, calm and relaxed birth you could ask for. Tens machine, then in the birthing pool with gas and air. Slightly long winded labour but pushed her out in 11 minutes. No post natal complications.

This pregnancy I'm only 17 weeks, but again the nausea has eased off around 14 weeks

My pregnancy was pretty easy, no sickness, bit of heartburn, not a huge amount of weight gain. Birth was easy. Mostly at home, couple of hours gas and air, cautionary trip into hospital and she popped out before anyone even got chance to come and check me. She was a nightmare baby though!

Felt a million miles better after the first 12 weeks. Week 13 things really turned around for me.

I totally get (& remember the feeling) why you don't want to hear all the negativity. But to put a different slant on it, I had a few issues along the way to say the least, but 18 months later and DD is asleep next door snoring away happily. I can barely remember any of it and would do it again in a heartbeat.

What I'm saying is each part of the journey you go through, good or bad, is just a phase that will come and go. It's all worth it. I hope you enjoy your pregnancy Cake

GoldPaperStars · 12/06/2019 20:53

God you’re all lovely. I think this is the most positive I’ve felt since finding out about the pregnancy!
