I’m 12 weeks with my first pregnancy and have horrific nausea and vomiting and generally feel shocking. Every now and again I’ll venture onto the pregnancy boards and they seem full of tales of people with morning sickness that never ended, who had horrible labour and / or who had 101 things go wrong. I’m sure it’s a bit like review sites where you’re more likely to leave a bad review then a good one, but it’s so demoralising!

I know that things do go wrong, but I just thought how nice it would be to have a thread full of “my morning sickness cleared up after the first trimester” and “actually labour was manageable” memories. I’m sure I’m not the only one who could do with the hope! Confused

With all three of mine my morning sickness started to ease around 14 weeks and was fully gone by 16. Most of my mum friends say that it stopped after first trimester for them. Honestly it does for most of us. Ginger biscuits and plain crackers both helped a bit everything else people suggest gave me no relief at all.

There are lots of great things about the second trimester, your skin and hair are great and hormones make you feel really positive. Also you've made it to a stage where you can start telling people and planning for the baby,

No morning sickness, very easy pregnancy apart from heartburn. I did hypnobirthing through the Positive Birth Company and stayed so calm that things progressed a little faster than anticipated. Baby was born on Christmas Eve in our bathroom, caught by my husband. Paramedics arrived five minutes later to find us all calm and well. If you advance search you can find my thread on here from the night she was born. And, she’s a super lovely, happy baby, so I couldn’t ask for any more.

I felt much better from around 16 weeks. I had a huge burst of energy and cleaned the entire house, albeit in just my pants as I was so bloody hot Grin I remember going to my 12 week scan, finding out I was actually 13 weeks and wanting to weep at why I was still feeling so poorly.

It also got easier as the bump got bigger too, mainly because people are a lot more helpful/sympathetic when they can see the pregnancy!

Labour had complications but I still felt really positive about it. It was a long labour and I ended up with sepsis, but baby only needed a tiny bit of assistance to come out (ventouse and two pushes!) and I was very very well looked after. I also felt so well after giving birth (after the sepsis had been treated obviously Grin)

Didn’t have morning sickness with either ds.
Ds1 3 hour labour, gas and air
Ds2 1 hour 40 min labour, gas and air

LaurieMarlow · 12/06/2019 20:37

When pregnant with DS1 I had the loveliest second trimester. My sickness all cleared up, energy came back, I felt very loving towards my husband and was so pleased to be pregnant and so excited about the new arrival. It was bliss Smile

ChocolateChipMuffin2016 · 12/06/2019 20:38

Pregnancy and labour seem to be the only things that I have genuinely been a natural at. Not trying to be smug, it’s nothing to do with me, just luck!
Morning sickness cleared up at about 14-16 weeks both times and felt good for the rest of pregnancy etc, just more tired towards the end.
Both labours were fairly straight forward (not totally complication free), but do-able, definitely not as bad as I was lead to believe pain wise. Coped with just has and air with both, did have stitches but good recovery.
Also wanted to breastfeed afterward, not easy but managed it for both.
Again, I was bloody lucky! My toddler pushing all my buttons atm makes me think I’m not such a natural at the actual parenting bit! Grin

I had pretty bad nausea and vomiting until about 16 weeks. (When I say bad, I couldn’t keep down water and I lost over 10% of my body weight). After that it was a breeze really, although I was insanely tired.

I really enjoyed labour. It was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. I was induced, it took four and a half hours and at the end I felt like Wonder Woman

GrandTheftWalrus · 12/06/2019 20:39

I was only sick a few times during pregnancy. Had bad heartburn a few times but that was it.

Had to go for a trace at 20 weeks as they thought the heartbeat was slow but it was fine. Also a growth scan at 36 weeks as I was measuring 33 but she was fine.

Went 8 days overdue and again it was fine. Even being overdue was okay. My leg hurt a bit with my sciatica but that was only the last week or so.

Labour was okay. Sore but manageable. I got to 5cm dilated before I went to hospital and then she was born 4hrs later. Even while in labour I was talking about the next one!

I had diamorphine and gas and air and it kept it all at an even level. I've actually had period pains worse.

I was cut during delivery and tbh getting stitched hurt more than the actual labour!

Sorry for the essay.

Ds1- no sickness, nothing, arrived at 37 weeks, 3 hour labour, gas and air, all good

Ds2- no sickness, nothing, arrived at 38 weeks, 1 hour 40 min labour, gas and air, all good

I would rather labour and give birth then go to the dentist! But I know I’m lucky!
