Walking along behind someone who is vaping is horrid

Peak vaping-in-the-street time - 5:30pm - have just walked behind or past at least 5 vaping people to reach train station. It’s so stinky. Yeuch.

I'm not expecting people not to do it - I just don't like the overpowering smells.

SwimmerGirl40 · 12/06/2019 20:53

@IToldYouIWasFreaky
Think it’s just personal preference.

I prefer vape “smoke” as it doesn’t seem to stick in my long (so a pain to wash and dry) hair as much as cigarette smoke does.

Remember, before the smoking ban came in, if you went out to a pub/bar/club and you’d wake up stinking of smoke. It really sticks in my hair for some reason!

Iooselipssinkships · 12/06/2019 21:05

Yet I bet you drive a car, get the bus, ride in a taxi. Smelt the fumes off them? Ever been caught behind a vehicle when crossing the road? Especially a bus? Shall we ban all them too? Oh no because that would an inconvenience to you. Instead let's cry about a slight cloud of strawberry smelling vapour that lasts 1 - 2 seconds, which has probably helped the person quit the 40 cigs a day you were whinging about just yesterday. Scum the lot of them eh.
Do you go into meltdown when you put your kettle on? Run for the hills?

Icantstopeatinglol · 12/06/2019 21:14

looselipssinkships bus/car fumes etc are awful but they’re a means to get to work etc so people can earn a living. Not sure there’s any particular reason why anyone ‘needs’ to smoke or vape.
I’m not looking forward to sitting in beer gardens with friends, family and kids and feeling like I’m awkward for not wanting to breathe in smoke or vape clouds.

I've started using a vape, after smoking for 46 years I thought I should try and stop. I can't remember the last time I smoked a cigarette so that's bloody brilliant. I don't use flavoured oil so my exhalations smell of nothing. I've vaped on planes, in airports, restaurants and no one has ever noticed. There is no need to produce massive amounts of vapour, that's a choice, and an obnoxious one at that. So on one hand op I agree with you but it's still my dummy! I hope that one day I won't need it but it's a really hard habit to break.

TabbyMumz · 12/06/2019 21:18

I think it should be banned in public. It's not been tested enough and in 10 or 20 years people could be seriously ill from it.

U2HasTheEdge · 12/06/2019 21:21

I vape.

I don't blow clouds of vape though.

If people don't like the smell then I couldn't give a single fuck. I have vaped for years and I am so much healthier. That means more to me than other's not liking the smell.

reytmardy · 12/06/2019 21:27

It's horrible waiting at a busy city centre bus stop with several vapers. Makes me feel sick . I don't want to breathe in their chemicals

Icantstopeatinglol · 12/06/2019 21:59

Again....absolutely nothing to do with smell. It’s to do with not wanting to breathe in chemicals that nobody has any clue what it’s doing to people’s bodies!

U2HasTheEdge · 12/06/2019 22:49

What chemicals in vapour worry you?

Anarchyshake · 12/06/2019 23:06

I'm very allergic to the base ingredients of vape vapour.

The vegetable oil base ones really set me off. It is really awful to breathe that in.

I actually get less of a problem from people's fags. Where as when I was stuck in a room with this arsehole (he is one already regardless of the vaping) opposite me, vaping constantly. I nearly ended up in hospital. Only reason I didn't is because I'm stupid and don't want a fuss. But one of these days I'm going to end up dying because I won't burden the hospitals.

They smell like WKD

Icantstopeatinglol · 12/06/2019 23:27

Looking online the ‘e-juice’ or ‘e-liquid’ is made up of nicotine, propylene glycol, glycerine, and flavourings. That’s just what we know of and what we’ve been told but regardless of this I don’t want to breathe it in or want my kids to when we know so little about them. Everyone can do what they want in their own homes etc and away from others but don’t inflict your own wants onto others who then have their choice not to breathe it in taken away from them.

Rainatnight · 12/06/2019 23:31

I really hate this too. YANBU, OP.

Nicotine is a drug. I don’t want to have to breathe it in without having any choice in the matter.

mumwon · 12/06/2019 23:46

where are these things manufactured - how closely are they supervised when imported (ie can you get them via the web?)? I always wonder about this rather like a pp are we likely to find a few years down the line that they weren't as benevolent & harmless as people think. After all they were promoted as a way of giving up smoking - as short term usage not as replacing the addiction permanently?

OldAndWornOut · 12/06/2019 23:55

A lot of liquids don't contain any nicotine, so in that respect people have given up the addiction to smoking.

Mummoomoocow · 12/06/2019 23:59

A lot of people need to relax here, no one is telling you to stop vaping. We’re venting about instances when people were being inconsiderate vapers. We’re (hopefully) not talking about you

HoppityChicken · 13/06/2019 00:02

I vape but my vapes (Logic) don't give off those huge clouds of smoke and produce less than my cigarette smoke used to, and they don't really smell of anything. I don't get the whole flavoured smoke machine thing some people do - but whatever keeps you from smoking cigarettes.

OldAndWornOut · 13/06/2019 00:04

I tried the big cloud liquids; could barely see anything in my front room!
It looked like the set from top of the pops in the 70s.

Shodan · 13/06/2019 00:06

I can guarantee that every vape naysayer will have at least one habit that I find absolutely disgusting. Whether you've drowned yourself in perfume, eaten garlic, have been drinking beer, not washed properly, used soap/shower gel/deodorant I find abhorrent, indulged in curries/kebabs, used a synthetic air freshener in your home, worn trainers without socks- I think you stink and demand that you stop immediately.

Or I would, if I too lived in Hyperbole Town, Fiction County, DramaLlama Land, where so many appear to live...

zenasfuck · 13/06/2019 00:18

@jemtully what are you talking about with the 50,60,70?
There is no smoke with a vape, only vapour and the thing that controls the amount of vapour is the atomiser and coil.
The amount of cigarettes you smoked is relative to the strength of nicotine you'd vape, eg 18,12,6,3 mg

Icantstopeatinglol · 13/06/2019 07:14

Again......it’s not about the smell 🙄

cliffdiver · 13/06/2019 07:20

It's horrible.

I was in Boots a couple of weeks ago waiting for a prescription, and a man was vaping whilst waiting to be served.

YouJustDoYou · 13/06/2019 07:26

Or I would, if I too lived in Hyperbole Town, Fiction County, DramaLlama Land, where so many appear to live...

Dramallama Land...yeah, you definitely live there 😂

teyem · 13/06/2019 07:57

It's grim, I don't like it. It stinks. It's not a moral judgement though, I'd be as impressed if swathes of people had taken up walking around town with a lit Yankee candle.
