To think this can't be normal?

Hi,

I've been on leave from work for the past 4 weeks and due back next week. I can't remember some of my colleagues' names. I've always been awful with remembering names but this is not good. I can remember half of theirs, but not the other half. I will remember again once I open my email. Am I getting dementia or something?

Have you worked there long? How bad are you with names normally?

PanteneProV · 11/06/2019 15:48

How long have you worked there, how many people are we talking, and how much do you interact with them?

That is a worry. Have you had a lot on your mind lately? Why were you off work?

CoolBee · 11/06/2019 15:52

Been there around 6 months. Interaction is probably once or twice a week. I've always struggled with remembering people's names. I can recall 5 names, and not the other 4.

That is a bit odd, especially if you feel your memory has worsened. It might be worth seeing a GP just for peace of mind as much as anything.

Is there anything else you've forgotten? If you speak to family, can you remember events going on in their lives? Birthdays? What people gave you as gifts a few years ago?

During periods of stress/anxiety my brain shuts off information such as this. If this is the case it will come back to you when you least expect it. It's a kind of coping strategy for the brain. I don't know if this could be the case for you? I'd see G.P for peace of mind if nothing else.
