To ask if any other forums are as good as mumsnet?

Just in case one fancied a change? Grin

Mumsnet seems really good for talking about current affairs and everyday issues. It's super active, the trending box is useful for quickly finding interesting threads. Somebody told me to try Reddit and I just couldn't get along with the layout. Seemed difficult to find threads, too many subreddits and stuff, threads that looked like threads but were actually just pictures and videos? Maybe I just wasn't smart enough.

But is there anywhere as good as (or maybe even... better!?) than mumsnet? For constant activity, subject matter and ease of use?

Digital Spy used to be good. But then half od the users seemed to migrate over here which is why we have so many non parents on 'Mum's' net.

WhiteRedRose · 10/06/2019 16:45

half of*

silvercuckoo · 10/06/2019 16:47

Reddit of course.

lboogy · 10/06/2019 16:49

When I was ttc and pregnant I used to go onto community BabyCentre . It's a better parenting resource imo . Their app is pretty shit and since I'm on my phone a lot , I don't really go on there much.

Not that the MN app is brilliant, but. It's better for navigation

FridaKahl0 · 10/06/2019 16:49

When I was younger I used to post on a really big student forum that was great for similar reasons. Millions of active users, threads about everything you could think of. Then I outgrew it I guess, and found this place when I had my first child. But I'm interested if there's anywhere else similarly good.

I quite like Reddit. Some crossover with Mumsnet but I go to Reddit for different topics.

FridaKahl0 · 10/06/2019 16:51

Reddit of course

Is there a way of seeing popular/trending threads from across all subreddits? I couldn't figure it out.

Me too! I hated the layout though. It seemed much less intuitive than here is.

I can't get to grips with Reddit either OP. Maybe we're both just a bit dim. I was wondering if there are any other similar sites too.

foreverhanging · 10/06/2019 16:53

Another one who can't get to grips with reddit

ComeBackPeterComeBackPaul · 10/06/2019 16:54

Tattle has its pros and cons. There is some tattle and unkindness but there are also some interesting threads about the roles of influencers and children, mental health and greed. I quite like the (very small) part that I have ventured into. Hopefully they will grow into something more rounded.

ComeBackPeterComeBackPaul · 10/06/2019 16:56

........ I want to like Reddit but I really just don't understand it!

SupermassiveBlackHo · 10/06/2019 16:56

I hate Reddit and its layout.

Tattle is mostly awful - have a look at the MrsHinch threads. The nastiness and vitriol on there is something else.

I'd be interested in another forum with an easy to use format. I can't stand Netmums.

FridaKahl0 · 10/06/2019 17:00

I just went onto Reddit to maybe give it another try. There are some subreddits I followed years ago that I'm no longer interested in and I can't for the life of me figure out how to unfollow them! The first thing I try to do and I can't find the button. Seems so non-user-friendly!

OP posts:
ComeBackPeterComeBackPaul · 10/06/2019 17:02

I have never, ever looked at netmums. I think I thought it would be too nice, to twee for a weary old cynic like me. Am I wrong?

LimeKiwi · 10/06/2019 17:03

I tried to get along with Reddit, but I'm joining the dim club as I just don't get the layout either!
It's got some good threads but it just seems too hard to find stuff!
Had a look on tattle when linked in a Hinch thread, and just seemed utterly vile - loads of bitching, moaning pulling people down and I can't be doing with those kind of drainers lol, life's too short.
Following with interest as I need more reading material!

LimeKiwi · 10/06/2019 17:06

Netmums! Of course, forgot there.
I started off there, used to be on it all the time but then found here and never left Grin
It's a lot "nicer" for want of a better word?
Supportive, friendly, don't get people jumping on you for the hell of it over there.
It's an assault to the senses though colour wise, and you're sorted if you like "tickers" - eg banners along the bottom of posts such as 3,201 days since little Bubba was born" Grin

ComeBackPeterComeBackPaul · 10/06/2019 17:06

Maybe the algorithm is too "clever" on Reddit for me. My 17 year old dd seems to breeze through it. Yep, I never venture into the more awful Tattle threads but do see that people want to vent about some of these influencers and their dodgy practices.

SpeckledyHen · 10/06/2019 17:08

I was totally baffled by Reddit too and thought I was alone in being dim !

user27495824 · 10/06/2019 17:14

Not really what you asked but does anyone remember Babyworld? I reckon it was in the middle of Mumsnet and Netmums. It all went tits up when they tried to introduce fees and they never got the momentum back. Their DDD forum (discuss, debate, deliberate) was The main forum, similar to AIBU but more current affaira that the gentle souls always avoided. I miss those keyboard warrior early baby days.

breakfastpizza · 10/06/2019 17:28

I love LipstickAlley, mostly for the gossip. It's intended for Black women, but (like Mumsnet) has since attracted a wide range of users.

LimeKiwi · 10/06/2019 17:29

I've just remembered Netmums trialling what was like an early AIBU called Tantrums and Tiaras - does anyone remember that?!
It didn't last very long as people started flinging their toys out of the pram, buns were flung and harsh words were said on there and it went poof and usually luffly fluffiness returned Grin

somecakefather · 10/06/2019 17:32

I can't get on with Reddit either. I thought it was just meGrin, glad to know it's them not me.

Sunshineandshowers81 · 10/06/2019 17:36

I used to like babyandbump but looked recently and it was pretty much empty

Rarfy · 10/06/2019 17:38

I used to enjoy digital spy. Not been on as a user in ages but still have a nosey for the soap spoilers occasionally.

Ohnotanothernamechange · 10/06/2019 17:40

Digital Spy used to be really good years ago, especially when Big Brother was still popular. They had the best BB forum on the web, and this was before Facebook and Twitter so if you wanted to discuss it that's where you went.
