Just in case one fancied a change? Grin

Mumsnet seems really good for talking about current affairs and everyday issues. It's super active, the trending box is useful for quickly finding interesting threads. Somebody told me to try Reddit and I just couldn't get along with the layout. Seemed difficult to find threads, too many subreddits and stuff, threads that looked like threads but were actually just pictures and videos? Maybe I just wasn't smart enough.

But is there anywhere as good as (or maybe even... better!?) than mumsnet? For constant activity, subject matter and ease of use?

I like baby centre it has an Aibu section and a what’s your opinion section (wyoo) not as busy as here though

BethanyGilbert · 10/06/2019 17:55

I have recently discovered tattle. It’s a bit venomous. And also seems really slow? MN is really fast paced though.

Cornettoninja · 10/06/2019 17:59

I used to like digital spy, it was fairly fast moving and has a general chat section to get a feel for the place. I haven’t been there for ages though - MN let me swear so..... Grin

Reddit is a tough layout to get on with. I find it much easier to navigate on a pc/laptop than on my phone. It helped me to know that it’s original concept is based on it being a user generated news site so the discussions are actually happening in the comments - which is why the discussion doesn’t seem to flow and offshoots into people commenting on comments and loads of little discussions going on. When you’re just getting a picture/article it’s likely your clicking the main title (article) and not the comments. Reddit is great once you get the hang of it.

Straight dope forums might still be going. That was a fairly interesting place.

Cornettoninja · 10/06/2019 18:01

@ohnonotanothernamechange - no way, the best BB forums were C4!

Miserable so and so’s got rid of all their forums AngryGrin

ElspethFlashman · 10/06/2019 18:10

Digital spy is still great for Strictly. At least there's a fairly big membership and there's a lot of blokes on there so it has a bit of a different tone. The soap threads are good.

It's not nearly as funny though. There's still plenty of huffiness and taking affront, just like here!

I'm on Reddit for years but rarely contribute as usually I filter by Top Posts in 24 hrs and the conversation is long over. But that way you get the best stuff. But it's not really a discussion forum like here. Even if you comment in real time, often your comments just get overlooked in the traffic.

Yabbers · 10/06/2019 18:31

Baby and bump was my go to when DD was little. Not too hunny but not the vipers nest MN can be sometimes.

silvercuckoo · 10/06/2019 18:59

There are a couple of good reddit apps. Now for Reddit etc.

PlausibleSuit · 10/06/2019 19:05

If you enjoy watching men with tiny comfort zones and deep unresolved emotional issues sniping at each other like the local comp's third-best year 9 debating team about baffling minutiae, Pistonheads can be quite the laugh.

SmarmyMrMime · 10/06/2019 19:08

I used to use some connected with hobbies that built up some good general chat sections. The growth of groups in facebook killed them off and I stumbled over here while feeling rather bored awaiting the near imminent birth of my baby.

I can't suss out reddit at all. I never worked Twitter out either!

SwimmerGirl40 · 10/06/2019 20:36

Speaking of men with tiny comfort zones and unresolved emotional issues, there’s always the misogynistic House Price Crash, although obviously a bit niche. 😂😂😂

We’re looking to buy at the moment and it keeps coming up in my google searches.

AvocadoBubbles · 10/06/2019 20:42

I used to enjoy Hitched Off Topic, which then migrated to its own forum “The Deadwpod”, was great for years but then went down the pan for various reasons. It’s loterally “Dead” over there now sadly, had some good advice and interesting topics back in the day.

KittyVonCatsworth · 10/06/2019 21:00

Yep, another one for hitched and then Deadwood. Reddit is ok, the MNTrolls is ok. Then there's the rival sub MNnontrolls. There's history between them both and unless you've been there for donkeys you'll never quite get the in jokes and it does get a bit smiley between them but still quite friendly.

KittyVonCatsworth · 10/06/2019 21:00

Snipey, not smiley.

managedmis · 10/06/2019 21:01

Nah

Yabbers · 10/06/2019 21:01

Snipey, not smiley.
Yes, I did wonder about that 😄

lavenderbluedilly · 10/06/2019 21:04

I liked iVillage, I used the forums a lot about 12 years ago

sharpasaknife · 10/06/2019 21:06

Snipey?! There has been full on stalking and doxxing going on there Shock.

I like digital spy, housepricecrash and money saving expert .

ChicCroissant · 10/06/2019 21:10

I used to be on Digital Spy a lot, but the Strictly forum killed it for me slightly because it just goes on about the same topics every year but applies them to a different dancer (eg the ringer).

DS did have a long running thread at one point about adverts which was really funny. You have reminded me to have another look at it.

BestZebbie · 10/06/2019 21:11

Ravelry is what you are all looking for.

It says it is for knitters and crocheters but there are many boards entirely about other things, just as in Mumsnet there are an awful lot of threads that don't mention babies...

The best thing is that each post has buttons to agree or disagree (etc) so you don't end up with loads of people just saying "yeah, me too!", and you can edit posts.

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 10/06/2019 21:11

I discovered Houzz a few years ago when we were doing up a house, I can still waste hours on there . The advice section is brilliant .

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 10/06/2019 21:16

I loved Deadwood and Hitched before it, but the move to Facebook killed it off. Not prepared to share so much under my real name. Think that’s true of most forums to be honest - I have a few others that I belong to that are slowly declining due to the Facebook tyranny.

Gth1234 · 10/06/2019 23:35

I used to be on DigitalSpy - not been there for a long while now.

If you want to see what real free speech is like, have a look at StormFront, and then come away, suitably chastened.

foreverhanging · 10/06/2019 23:40

I often read the American BabyCenter DWIL - some crazy shit on there

Thesearmsofmine · 10/06/2019 23:46

Back in the day I loved the forums on Handbag, I used to be on fashion section every day. When pregnant with ds1 I used babycente and I loved it. Tattle has some funny threads but some are horrible.

alphajuliet123 · 10/06/2019 23:49
