I’m the same age as Villanelle - AIBU to feel inadequate in comparison? **Spoiler warning added by MNHQ**

She has a lot of skills for someone her age. Impressive career. Speaks several languages. Also she has an amazing wardrobe and does lots of international travel because of her work. I’m saving for a house deposit so haven’t been on holiday for 2 years.

AIBU to feel jealous/inadequate? I feel underachieving in comparison.

yiskasha

um. yes. did you think we didn't know?!

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 11/06/2019 13:54

I (as a straight woman) have a massive crush on her Blush

Jodie Cromers ability to make all the accents sound genuine...wow!

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 11/06/2019 13:59

I'm on episode 2 and so far she has only killed 1 person per ep. She's slacking a bit.

RedForShort · 11/06/2019 14:10

yiskasha: "It's a fictional character"

Darn it, is she? I feel so foolish.

What if MI 5 and 6 are using knowing this as a basis for their shortlist when recruiting off MN? All our dreams to become a spy are doomed, DOOMED I tell you!!!

Sidge · 11/06/2019 14:21

I am truly gobsmacked at some of the responses on this thread.

Did the rain wash away some posters sense of humour and ability to recognise irony?

I bloody love Villanelle. You’d want to go drinking with her but worry she’d cut your throat.

FermatsTheorem · 11/06/2019 14:27

I love the "spoiler warning added" amendment.

Spoiler: she kills people.

Spoiler: she's not real.

DarlingNikita · 11/06/2019 14:32

It's a fictional character.

Shit, I feel so stupid!

Letthenamesbegin · 11/06/2019 14:52

I adore her! Both me and dh are a little bit in love with her I think. Our favourite debate is who would win in an assassins stand off - Vilanelle or Alice from Luther

Awks · 11/06/2019 15:06

@Chesntoots agreed. I certainly wouldn't like to live next door to Alice

RedForShort · 11/06/2019 15:10

Who the fuck is Alice, Awks?

Even that's fictional ...

Letthenamesbegin · 11/06/2019 15:11

@awks well that’s just nimby-ism at its finest. Someone has to live next door to her.

DaveCoaches · 11/06/2019 15:33

I feel I need to start a new thread asking, if Villanelle was real, AIBU to feel inadequate in comparison to her.

I'm also a straight woman with a crush on Villanelle. I think there are many of us!

PhossyJaw · 11/06/2019 15:51

SLIGHT SPOILER ALERT

I assumed that the specific accessory used by Villanelle to stage the crime scene of the murder at the end of episode 2 was a specific reference to a long-running and vituperative Mumsnet debate. She or the screen writers is here among us. Grin

Actually that wasn't a spoiler at all.

Teacakeandalatte · 11/06/2019 15:53

Wait I haven't seen this (but it sounds good) what is the accessory, a certain beaker? A penguin bollard? Pom bears?

PhossyJaw · 11/06/2019 16:26

You might find it in the bathroom, @Teacakeandalatte, but it's presence is controversial. Grin

PhossyJaw · 11/06/2019 16:27

ITS, not it's. Duh.

Teacakeandalatte · 11/06/2019 16:34

Ahh I think I know, I must watch it now! Is it on catchup?

RedForShort · 11/06/2019 16:35

Really PhossyJaw? I do not recall that!!! Been ages since I saw episode 2 - stupid RTE having shown the whole series already. Should have made us wait like BBC, then I'd remember.

RedForShort · 11/06/2019 16:36

(It is the BBC isn't it?!)

PhossyJaw · 11/06/2019 16:50

I was cross RTE showed it earlier, @RedForShort.

Yes, we don’t see it when V actually commits the murder, but when Eve and Carolyn visit the crime scene immediately afterwards, the Controversial Implement is prominent.

@Teacakeandalatte, it’s all on iPlayer.

LaurieMarlow · 11/06/2019 17:08

Ha, first time I recall it being worth having RTÉ. Grin

Gutted I’ve seen it all now. When’s the third series?

Teacakeandalatte · 11/06/2019 17:10

Excellent I shall binge the lot when dh is at work. Shall be on the look out for the controversial implement of questionable hygiene.

DaveCoaches · 11/06/2019 17:54

Phossy I think this was before my time. I’ve seen it referenced but have never understood - are MNers for or against the aforementioned implement?

OP posts:
PhossyJaw · 11/06/2019 18:04

Now @LaurieMarlow, you know RTE is full of glories. Does it still have that demented programme where Daniel O'Donnell and his wife go around trying out increasingly bizarre rural BnBs? Shock

@DaveCoaches, claiming to own one comes up again and again on those 'unpopular opinion' Mn threads, so who knows? I believe the default position used to be strongly anti-.
