I’m the same age as Villanelle - AIBU to feel inadequate in comparison? **Spoiler warning added by MNHQ**

She has a lot of skills for someone her age. Impressive career. Speaks several languages. Also she has an amazing wardrobe and does lots of international travel because of her work. I’m saving for a house deposit so haven’t been on holiday for 2 years.

AIBU to feel jealous/inadequate? I feel underachieving in comparison.

Alrigh’ Purplemond how’s it going alright? I do have a good life as it goes.

Grin at all the serious responses, build your self esteem OP!

I found myself worrying about the fact that she doesn't have a pension (I presume!) and how she will function as an assassin once her joints are painful and creaky, which can happen a lot sooner than you imagine.

I love the way she switches from her very "English" accent to a Russian one.

Part of me does quite fancy being an assassin, but I wonder if you can just do it within school hours? I guess I would have to stick to assassinating people local to me.

PhossyJaw · 10/06/2019 10:04

She is also micromanaged to an insulting degree.

Didn't she kill her handler in season one? Or am I imagining that?

Vulpine · 10/06/2019 10:07

yanbu. It is part of her m.o. to make others feel inadequate!

Hopeygoflightly · 10/06/2019 10:08

I'm envious of her ability to do different accents flawlessly. That would be dead handy at parties.

PhossyJaw · 10/06/2019 10:09

But her French is very Russian-accented -- what I think is impressive is for an English actress to pull off 'French as spoken by a Russian'.

NCforthis2019 · 10/06/2019 10:10

are you seriously comparing yourself to a fictional character that a writer dreamed up?

Bluerussian · 10/06/2019 10:11

Never heard of her.

Plenty of people my age have done things that I will never do. So what?

kateandme · 10/06/2019 10:11

i know this is lighthearted but are you forgeting she is killing people.

Bloodybridget · 10/06/2019 10:12

Her skin looks kind of unhealthy to me though, anyone agree? There's an unnatural mauve-y sheen to her face.

over50andfab · 10/06/2019 10:13

I was told once that I spoke German (very badly) with a French accent...does that count?

Other than that, can she multitask with kids? Now that’s an achievement Smile

RoyalCorgi · 10/06/2019 10:14

No. No, she's not.

If only all questions on MN were so easily answered...

Sparklesocks · 10/06/2019 10:16

I mean she is a sociopath if that makes you feel better

MaMisled · 10/06/2019 10:19

I dream about being her! I love her a little bit!

FreeTedHastings · 10/06/2019 10:24

I agree it's all down to failings in the education system. Far too much focus on history and RE and not enough on Easy Ways To Kill Your Victim Whilst Looking Totally Hot (and leave no trace).

AgnesNaismith · 10/06/2019 10:26

I just want her pink dress

And the Alexander McQueen blazer

The80sweregreat · 10/06/2019 10:26

She killed that boy though! i thought it was a mercy killing, but i think it was more so he wouldnt speak out after she disappeared!
she is very clever and erudite and i agree, i feel a bit of a failure compared to her, but she is also a ruthless killer so that makes it okay to not admire her too much! I find the older lady working with Eve a bit more interesting!

ErrolTheDragon · 10/06/2019 10:43

The 'invisible' assassin is surely more what a psychopathic MNer should aspire to? She must possess genuinely useful skills. Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 10/06/2019 10:48

She killed that boy though! i thought it was a mercy killing, but i think it was more so he wouldnt speak out after she disappeared!

She 'signed' that murder with the bitten apple, she wouldn't have cared at all if the boy had told someone about what had happened before that.

Hollowvictory · 10/06/2019 10:50

Which boy?

QueenKubauOfKish · 10/06/2019 10:50

I think what's a bit inspiring and compelling about her is the way she's separated from social norms and doesn't give a crap (at least in any given situation). Obviously there's a massive price to pay for that but I think a lot of women wish we could be just slightly more like that.

I think that's kind of what it's about in an allegorical way - woman who stands outside social norms = might as well be a cold-blooded killer, it's so disapproved of.

Ellapaella · 10/06/2019 10:51

I am very jealous of her wardrobe.

NotVeryChattySchoolMum · 10/06/2019 10:51

Being gifted in Russian education will get you that far.

And also in Russia you start uni at 16, not 18.

Not sure about karate and assassin skills though :)

ErrolTheDragon · 10/06/2019 10:54

Which boy?

If you don't know, you've probably not seen the relevant episode yet so probably best avoid spoilers?Smile

namynom · 10/06/2019 10:57

phossy is it? That makes me love her even more how cute is that! I’m also envious OP mainly of her language and acting skills. That seems to be a big part of being a good assassin is having excellent acting skills, swapping into her little posh English accent and being all naive and arse kissy to the perfume woman. I’d be screwed I can’t lie to save my life, otherwise I’d be a brilliant assassin.
