Do you keep your DVDS?

We have a Firestick and Netflix.

I am a hoarder trying to declutter Sad

I got rid of mine years ago. We don’t even have a DVD player now.

PlanBea · 09/06/2019 21:01

We only have a favourite few, everything else had gone to CEX!

Aquamarine1029 · 09/06/2019 21:02

We have ours in DVD albums which are kept tidied away in a drawer. We get rid of the dumb cases immediately. All they do is take up tons of space.

SavoyCabbage · 09/06/2019 21:06

My dc are 12 and 15 and they we're talking the other day that they could 'remember those silver circles with sesame st on'.

I was definitely a bit unsettled that they didn't t know what they were. Confused

Iamnotagoddess · 09/06/2019 21:08

We are in a Victorian house and thinking about moving to a new house and Ivam panicking about what to get rid of.

Apart from a few that we really wanted to keep ours have all been sold when we moved last year. Watch Marie Kondo to help you declutter.

Freddiefox · 09/06/2019 21:30

I took all mine out of boxes and bit them in mulit ack cd case’s takes up a lot less room

Babysharkdododont · 09/06/2019 21:31

Are they useful or do they bring you joy? If not get rid.

Sparklesocks · 09/06/2019 21:34

I kept a few favourites/rarer films but a few years back sent most of mine off to music magpie, got a decent payment for them and it was just before I moved house so good to clear the space

WishIwas19again · 09/06/2019 21:35

Got rid of the ones we hadn't watched in years. Kept the kids ones in boxes so they can flick through and recognise the picture, our fave ones we've put in a DVD wallet and thrown boxes away, takes up so little space and can pop it out of sight in a cupboard. Although we were saying the other day we've only watched 2 DVD since xmas so may have a bigger cull

Apolloanddaphne · 09/06/2019 21:38

I keep suggesting we get rid of all ours but my DH and DDs are adamant that we keep them. They are weirdly sentimental about their DVD's.

BackforGood · 09/06/2019 21:43

YOu should worry - I still have quite a lot of videos Grin

BikeRunSki · 09/06/2019 21:43

I still buy DVDs! They are great for long car journeys (we have DVD players that can hang on the headrests) and holiday accommodation that has a tv with a DVD player built in (we only came across our first accommodation without this, and with Netflix at Easter). They cost 50p-£2 second hand and are much cheaper than downloads.

babysharkah · 09/06/2019 21:44

We have no cds or DVD's anymore. Everything is downloadable. Kids use tablets when travelling.

BikeRunSki · 09/06/2019 21:44

Also, our broadband speed is rubbish and watching a film on download seizes the internet for anything else.

Chouetted · 09/06/2019 21:48

I've ripped mine onto the computer (there was a brief period where that wasn't illegal) so keep the originals for backup and moral reasons.

I store them in boxes in the attic.

mineofuselessinformation · 09/06/2019 21:50

Go through them - be ruthless.
Anything that you know you won't watch again goes to the charity shop.
Anything you're not sure about, put them all together in a pile.
Anything from the pole that you haven't touched in a couple of months also goes to the charity shop.
I have a lot of dvds, but I do watch them when there's nothing I want to watch on the telly, or when I'm ironing etc. (I have recently had a cull though.)

Kaiylee · 09/06/2019 21:51

We ditched the cases and put the discs into slip cases which are stored in boxes. Hundreds of dvds fit on one shelf of the bookcase.

tenbob · 09/06/2019 21:52

We sent every last one of them to Music Magpie and took the DVD player to the charity shop
We got enough to go out for lunch at the pub!

In 5 years, there hasn’t been a single occasion when we have said ‘oh I wish we could watch that dvd’. Not once

BarbedBloom · 09/06/2019 22:08

Ours are all gone and have been for a while. We stream anything we want to watch and have never missed them

Bluntness100 · 09/06/2019 22:09

We got rid of ours. Really just took up a lot of space. Both CDs and dvds we downloaded to a hard drive, which is now pointless as so much live streamed, I can't actually recall the last time we watched or listened to ayhting on there.

Mac47 · 09/06/2019 22:13

We watch dvds all the time!! I see no point in getting an alternative method of watching the films I already own, so will be keeping them until my dvd player no longer works and replacements do not exist.
