When your 1 year old likes olives

NC in case she's on here

Scrolling through the dreaded Facebook and one of my "friends" has added a picture of her kid eating a plate of salad, olives , pitta etc. with the caption, "When your 1 year old likes olives 🙌.

It really grates on me, like some weird form of mum shaming. We've just got past the stage of her doing the "13 month old" thing. She's one Hmm and so now it's this hand clappy, look at me shite. (I know, I just need to unfollow)

In the comments some people are like, wow, mine won't even try (probably feeling a bit shit that little George will only eat quavers now), and her reply is, really? We're just introducing coriander and feta Hmm

AIBU to think this mum is just intent on shaming other mums and thinks she's superior cause her kid eats olives?

She might not have thought it was bragging

I would love to believe this was the case but if she didn't think she was bragging why on earth would she post the status. I hardly believe she would have posted if the child was eating crisps.

Mums like these love to think they are better than everyone else at this parenting lark. Trust me when I say that one day she will be wishing her child would eat what ever was put in front of them instead of asking for yet another plate of nuggets and chips.

MRex · 09/06/2019 16:10

It doesn't sound like you like her. Sometimes people just pay something they find amusing, if you don't then just ignore it. I don't like over-posters much so I hide them, but what she's actually saying is pretty innocuous.

I also don't think describing age under 2 in months is unusual nor weird, I'm not sure what your point was about 13 months.

MorondelaFrontera · 09/06/2019 16:13

The people I judge are the ones who are on social media only to bitch and moan about their "friends". It's the gossip-addict drama queen who are tiresome.

It says a lot more about you if you feel posts are bragging or take them personally. Everybody else either join in or completely ignore.

I got slammed once

Sirzy · 09/06/2019 16:15

Ds loves olives when he was little.

Next week he is having a feeding tube fitted because he can’t eat enough to sustain his body.

Early eating has very little reflection on what will come later

Shahlalala · 09/06/2019 16:16

Ooops!
I got talked down about using months once on Mumsnet about a sleeping issue, she was 20 months or something, it’s a huge difference being 1 and nearly 2 so I felt it relevant.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 09/06/2019 16:17

DD was very adventurous food-wise when she was really little. Only as she hit secondary school did she become fussy. She still loves olives, whitebait, snails, mussels and very runny French cheese but more ordinary staples (potatoes) she's now much less keen on.

Snog · 09/06/2019 16:17

I think it's harmless fun, it's amusing for a one year old to eat olives.

ThisIsBonIver · 09/06/2019 16:18

I mentioned to a colleague once that DD had loved olives as a toddler, and got a complete bollocking for having given her too much salt. Think of it that way!

imamearcat · 09/06/2019 16:20

Thing is she is smug now but often they will eat everything when they are tiny and then get picky! I hope hers does, then she will feel like a twat! x

Mrsjayy · 09/06/2019 16:20

I did see on here "my child is 38 months" the thread shouted your kid is 3 !! Under 2 is acceptable 16 months isn't the same as 12 months.

Teddybear45 · 09/06/2019 16:27

My neices and nephews all love olives, lentils, aubergines, and every kind of gourd you can imagine. They also prefer mature or extra mature cheese to mild. We are of Indian origin and they are vegetarian and so weaning was very varied and skewed to Indian food because that’s where all the most nutritious veg receipes seem to come from- youngest nephew struggles eating pasta, avocado, sandwiches, and most bland foods which makes school dinners a pain.

Quintella · 09/06/2019 16:27

I think once a child reaches two you need to stop talking in months. Massive difference between 13 months and 23 months. When you're in 38 months territory though...! Grin

maimainomai · 09/06/2019 16:29

Prawns, olives and pita bread are all delicious. Eating them is not an achievement.

Pinkvoid · 09/06/2019 16:31

Ha, the things people ‘brag’ about online is hilarious and baffling. Who cares? My DC choose to eat olives when we eat at Zizzi’s, can you believe it?! Shock

Mrsjayy · 09/06/2019 16:31

38 months is really pushing it Grin

WorraLiberty · 09/06/2019 16:32

When people ask how old my puppy is, I tell them she's 84 months in dog years Grin

userabcname · 09/06/2019 16:34

The hand clap emoji thing does annoy me. To be fair, my 2yo likes olives and has for a while. Didn't realise it was something to brag about. In fact, come to think of it, so does my cat! I'd best get on Facebook asap!

Ellie56 · 09/06/2019 16:34

So many twats on social media spouting bollocks. Hmm Just ignore her.

The2Ateam · 09/06/2019 16:35

All over the Med there are 1,000s of toddlers who love olives. I am from the Mrs, one child eats everything. The other would live on sausages if I let him!

youarenotkiddingme · 09/06/2019 16:35

My kid ate olives at 1 🤷‍♀️

And feta, ensaladia and all sorts of tapas.

We lived in Spain!

However he's 14 now and eats mainly protein and carbs due to being an athlete and would give me the 'look' of I offered him an olive Grin

He still eats bags of lettuce with vinegar in like crisps and loves raw pepper/carrot etc.

It was cute when he was 1. It's just expensive now he's 14.

(I don't post shit on FB but it wouldn't bother me if others do)

The2Ateam · 09/06/2019 16:35

I am from the Med, not Mrs!

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 09/06/2019 16:37

Tbf babys that age will eat what you give them, if she's always given things like olives/feta/salad or whatever else then it's only natural the child will be used to it. If a kids never had a bag of crisps or "easy kid food" then there's nothing to want or miss.
Most people make a rod for their own back in that aspect.
I don't see it as a brag but I don't know why it's worthy of putting on FB, then again there's alot of shit that doesn't need to be on there, but is.

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 09/06/2019 16:37

babys babies

Camomila · 09/06/2019 16:38

I like pictures of little DC doing 'older people' things, I think they are sweet. Whether that's eating something unusual, or pretending to read a novel or doing 'work' (ie scribbling or bashing a laptop next to a parent working)

I think sometimes DC food threads get a little bit english-centric. One persons 'showing off' is another persons 'weaning food' in their culture.
