My 3 yr old DD has developed a love for a 40 year old book that used to be DH’s where there is a space rocket that she can move between pages by passing it through slots in each page. The story is tedious, but I have to read it every night! I remembered today that I used to have something similar as a child, I think it was maybe a mouse or some other animal that moved between pages as you read the story. It was on a ribbon I think and used to hide behind flaps or slot into parts of the book... Any idea what book this is? Or anything else similar so that at least I have a few options for reading and don’t have to do that rocket book every. Single. Night.

Isn't the hungry caterpillar like this?

I haven't picked up a copy of it for about 20 years so could be wrong but it's the first thing that came to mind.

Try Moles Bedtime Story by David Wood.www.<a class="break-all" href="https://amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0385610483/ref=as_li_tl?linkCode=as2&linkId=CLQRAGXTMPMRZMDH&creativeASIN=0385610483&ie=UTF8&creative=6738&camp=1634&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-am-i-being-unreasonable-3607366-To-ask-for-help-finding-a-children-s-book" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0385610483/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=6738&creativeASIN=0385610483&linkCode=as2&tag=wwwdavidwoodo-21&linkId=CLQRAGXTMPMRZMDH This has a mole that goes through slots in the pages looking for his bed. My kids loved this one.

I still have my molly mouse goes shopping. It's exactly as you describe, she moves on a ribbon between pages and on each page there is somewhere for her to hide.

The Jolly Postman has letters to open on each page - and the story is quite good.
There are also some slot books by the same authors (Janet and Alan Ahlberg) - I remember one is called Playmates. But not sure if you'd find it in print now.

Yep molly mouse goes shopping Grin

JacquesHammer · 08/06/2019 21:25

Not a mouse, but Ladybird Moves Home has something similar!

Luckyleprechaun80 · 08/06/2019 21:27

Pirate Pete or once upon a time, both by Nick Sharratt might be good. You choose different pictures to change the story each time.

funkythighcollector · 08/06/2019 21:32

I had one with a squirrel. A Squirrel’s Tale

OkOkWhatsNext · 08/06/2019 21:46

Molly Mouse! That’s the one I was thinking about. Thank you. We have the Jolly Postman and Pirate Pete, and Hungry Caterpillar, but I will also have a look at the other suggestions. Thanks all!

Cornettoninja · 08/06/2019 22:09

Your description of the rocket reminded me so strongly of a childhood book... would you mind posting the name of it?

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 08/06/2019 22:17

My Dd loved this one.

@Cornettoninja it’s this one, The Amazing Journey of Spaceship H20. Looks like the author, Richard Fowler, wrote a few of the other suggestions on here too! Another one I recognise of his from Googling is Ted and Dolly’s Magic Carpet Ride, I think I must have had that as a child too. Wonder if any of these are available to buy these days? Going to look now.

Funny Bunny's Magic Show is a book that you pass a rabbit through each page.

Thanks you SO much for this thread op, I’m Avery sentimental and nostalgic person but sadly my parents aren’t, so not a huge amount was kept from our childhoods. I remember a lot but I’d have never remembered Molly Mouse Goes Shopping without seeing all the pages! As soon as I saw the page with the fern I had an inkling I had the book, then watching the video ago all the pages I know I did! Such a joy to see it all again!
