Strange smear test result

So I had mine a few weeks ago and had a letter come back saying there wasn't enough cells taken to get a result and I have to go back in 3 months for another one

Anyone experienced this before and was the follow up one ok? Not looking it up on Google that will just scare me!

Its really, really common and absolutely nothing to worry about

rosie39forever · 08/06/2019 20:04

Happened to me a couple of times, pain in the arse to have another one but absolutely nothing to worry about, mine both came back clear.

MitziK · 08/06/2019 20:07

It's exactly what it says - they didn't manage to collect enough cells, so you need the test repeated.

It happens.

PurpleDaisies · 08/06/2019 20:08

It’s a technical issue with the test-honestly nothing to be worried about.

PoptartPoptart · 08/06/2019 20:16

Just echoing what others have said, absolutely nothing to worry about.
I had this once, went for another test and it came back clear, all fine.
It’s never happened since.

Very common.

Some times of the month there are few loose cells to scrape.

Make sure you book your next one approx midway through your cycle. Not exact but 10 to 15 days after your last period started or thereabouts. More chance of getting a good slide.
Nothing at all to worry about

Ilikesweetpeas · 08/06/2019 20:52

I've had this too- the nurse apologised for not getting enough cells and the next one was normal

foreverchanging19 · 08/06/2019 21:23

Try not to worry, it's quite common. When you go back just let them know it is a repeat due to not enough cells last time and ask them to swirl it round a few extra times for luck.

Animum2 · 08/06/2019 21:38

Hecateh I had the smear around 13 days after the my last cycle finished

Nothing to worry about, you need 3 months to make sure they can collect the cells they need next time.

Stiffasaboard · 08/06/2019 21:42

Nothing at all to worry about
Used to happen much more before they changed the way they do smears but it can still happen and it doesn’t herald bad news at all.
