Boo let's hope.

I read somewhere this morning though... the only reason the Democrats won the House was because Trump's name wasn't on the ticket and his cult followers would've turned out and voted if it had been. Does that mean when their backs are against the wall, they will vote in their masses next year, even more than 2016?

I'm rabbiting here as I really don't know enough about it. Across could give a far more sensible answer than me Grin

I also read in the last week that the reason why he hasn't endorset VP Pence for a further run as VP is because he wants Ivanka to be VP... god help us

Boopear A large part of why Hillary lost was threefold: 1- Democratic voter apathy (no one thought Scrotus had a ghost of a chance), 2- the failure of another candidate (cough, Bernie, cough) to swiftly and strongly urge his supporters to rally behind her when he lost the nomination, and 3- Hillary's failure to recognize the importance of the Mid-western 'swing state' voters. She didn't cultivate them as she should have and Scrotus made a huge point of visiting them.

Any of the 3 (or all of them) could easily happen again. So it's not so much about Scrotus expanding his base as it is about keeping them all corralled and not losing any of them. If any of the 3 reasons Hillary lost are repeated we could unfortunately end up with 4 more year of disaster.

Oh, and 4-Russian hacking.

Would somebody be able to answer my question please: Why is Biden ahead in the polls?

I get my American news mainly from podcasts (at the moment the Daily, Rachel Maddow), and I hear far more about Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg. I only ever seem to hear about Biden when he has put his foot in it.

He didn't have a very high profile in the UK when Obama was in power (lets face it most US politicians had a much lower profile in the UK under Obama), so I don't really know much about him, except for the memes and the KKK controversies.

What is his appeal?

Lweji · 18/07/2019 15:28

And 5 - Hillary was very disliked for more or less valid reasons. I never got the feeling that voters were that enthusiastic about her except for her being female and a Democrat.

cozietoesie · 18/07/2019 15:45

I don't think they were, Lweji. They voted from duty rather than feeling.

Lweji · 18/07/2019 15:50

Biden may be ahead of the polls because he's fairly dependable. I suspect many people are still evaluating other candidates and haven't committed to liking a particular one, so Biden will seem like a safe pair of hands if pushed to answer who to vote for.
I suspect it will change, if primaries aren't held too soon.

thanks lweji

North Korea:

yournews.com/2019/07/18/1098448/malnutrition-disease-rising-in-north-korea-aid-organization/

Earlier this year:

I am unsure how well anyone manages on 300g of food a day, with protein four or five times a year.

cozietoesie · 18/07/2019 16:30

I agree - it is likely to change. We're having a slightly Torrid Thursday. People forget just how long it is until that fateful day.

cozietoesie · 18/07/2019 16:32

.....worsening the impact.........

www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2019/jul/18/go-back-trump-american-dissent-patriotic

'I am afraid again. The United States touts itself, or once did, as a land of immigrants, a republic ostensibly founded on egalitarian idealism, though we all know those ideals have largely only applied to a certain group of people. Fifteen years later, it is chilling to watch the president egging on the populace, encouraging them to chant for the banishment of an American citizen. In a truly egalitarian society of ideas, no one would think dissent is grounds for expulsion, whether that dissent comes from student activists or four freshman congresswomen.'

Hedging his bets here.

'Donald Trump said he was “not happy” with his supporters chanting “send her back” at the president’s rally last night in North Carolina, telling reporters at the White House on Thursday he allegedly tried to stop the chants by “speaking very quickly.”'

OP posts:
AcrossthePond55 · 18/07/2019 18:34

He was only 'not happy' because they weren't shouting loudly enough.

Roussette · 18/07/2019 18:46

How ridiculous to say he was not happy... he was smirking and almost smiling as they were chanting and made no attempt to stop them.

lionheart · 18/07/2019 18:48

I suspect it was staged.

Of course, He could have stopped ti at any point.

MerdedeBrexit · 18/07/2019 19:17

He is evil. Like Hitler with added golf.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 18/07/2019 19:21

I think, to be fair, that what he meant to claim was that when the chant began he quickly started to speak, not that he started to speak quickly.

It was a lie, but not as absurd a claim as it looks at first sight.

Roussette · 18/07/2019 19:29

Yes. Someone called out 'Send her Back' and he did start speaking.

Then it gathered momentum and he was about 15 seconds smirking while it was going on
