A woman I know from evening class has two really annoying phrases. So much so I really want to say Argh very loudly 😠! All of her conversations are full of 'you know what I mean' and 'gobsmacked' and I sometimes wonder if she has any idea how many times she says these words during a 15 minute chat! I'm sure she would be gobsmacked if she counted! Joking aside though, we all look forward to hearing her entertaining stories about everyday stuff told with such dramatic fashion every week! So tell me about someone you know who has some really annoying phrases!

'Needs gone' when a person wants to get rid of something.

Budgiesareloud · 08/06/2019 09:32

"As long as its healthy"

I can't even put it into words properly how it makes me feel

Dd2 wasnt healthy

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 08/06/2019 09:32

People on location location location who say 'property' when they mean 'house'.

sashh · 08/06/2019 09:39

Very unique. If it is unique it is a one off, that is what the word means.

I have managed to make an entire class of children stop saying, "Is it, like..." by telling them very excitedly that it is better than 'like... it is actually ..."

MedalMedalMedal · 08/06/2019 09:41

‘Rant over’ is annoying too. Mainly because it rarely is. It’s usually just the beginning.

TroysMammy · 08/06/2019 09:47

"Can I ask a favour?" in reply to "how can I help you?" I always view this with suspicion and depending on who it is may say jokingly "not on a Friday afternoon". Just tell me what you want and I'll decide if it's doable or not.

flowery · 08/06/2019 09:55

“Curated” from people who don’t work in museums.

Candymay · 08/06/2019 10:12

Meh
Lush
Nom nom
Poorly
Yummy

In that order.

bee222 · 08/06/2019 10:22

@EmmaJR1 This gives me the rage as well. It's like you lose all your identity as soon as you get pregnant and take on the role of "Mummy"
People asking pregnant women "How is mum today?" like they no longer have a name or their own interests anymore. I'm trying to conceive at the moment and if anyone refers to me as "mum" i'll be correcting them and asking to be called by my name.

Same goes for people with a hobby which they then tag the word mummy onto it. I see a lot of "mummy runners" on instagram. I'm not sure what being a mother has to do with running.

tensmum1964 · 08/06/2019 10:27

All of these. Grin

Chickenwing · 08/06/2019 10:44

My MIL often says "quite frankly" and "in times gone by" or that she likes to do things "of an evening" and for some reason they really annoy me.

Chickenwing · 08/06/2019 10:55

"He gave me into trouble" - this annoys me because it doesn't make sense.

theWarOnPeace · 08/06/2019 10:59

“We’re pregnant”

Arghhhhhhgggghhggghhgg my ears! My brain! Arrrgghhhggghg

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 08/06/2019 10:59

chicken it's Scottish dialect isn't it?

At least every time I say it in England, no one understands me.

Chickenwing · 08/06/2019 11:02

I'm Scottish but it still doesn't make sense to me.. you can be in trouble but you cant give someone into trouble Confused

AngeloMysterioso · 08/06/2019 11:03

"As long as its healthy"

I can't even put it into words properly how it makes me feel

Dd2 wasnt healthy

I’ve been getting that a lot now that I’m pregnant. I usually respond with “and what if it isn’t?”

Joans3rddaughter · 08/06/2019 11:05

"Rock" as in "she's my"/"he's my" etc.
"Like you said" In conversation when you haven't said any such thing!!

NameChangerAmI · 08/06/2019 11:06

Not a phrase, but grown adults posting "gawjuss" or "gawjuss girly" and comments of that ilk on social media.

Angry

You're not in Y1, having to spell things phonetically FFS, spell it properly, it just makes you look thick, not to mention infantile!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 08/06/2019 11:14

My house/child/or whatever my rules - what’s this need to be so authoritarian

He/she says what everyone is thinking 🤔

Cheeky glass/piece of whatever

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 08/06/2019 11:17

stupid inspirational quotes

Actually most if not all supposedly inspirational quotes usually just patronizing drivel

Snuffalo · 08/06/2019 11:24

Two work-related ones: “Liaise with” instead of “speak with” and “myself” when “me” is correct (“contact myself if you have any questions” for example).

quietcontentment · 08/06/2019 11:25

Just saying....

Please don't, I really don't want to know your opinion just for the sake of it. if I want it I'll ask for it.

I've encountered this a lot at times when it's really inappropriate an not necessary. For example if upset and you just want someone to listen or if they just don't like what your doing despite it not causing a problem.
