What phrases are so annoying you want to scream argh!

A woman I know from evening class has two really annoying phrases. So much so I really want to say Argh very loudly 😠! All of her conversations are full of 'you know what I mean' and 'gobsmacked' and I sometimes wonder if she has any idea how many times she says these words during a 15 minute chat! I'm sure she would be gobsmacked if she counted! Joking aside though, we all look forward to hearing her entertaining stories about everyday stuff told with such dramatic fashion every week! So tell me about someone you know who has some really annoying phrases!

I get images of naked women running away from a man with a giant net trying to catch them so he can ejaculate in them.

Clearly “got caught” really bothers me. It makes no sense whatsoever. I could understand “fell pregnant” in the sense of “a fallen woman” back in the day when sex outside of marriage was a big taboo. But “got caught” and “fell pregnant” sound so negative these days and most of the women who use these terms aren’t upset in my experience or describing an unplanned pregnancy.

Beldon · 08/06/2019 00:18

‘Pull your finger out’, hate it and so many people say it.

Bluerussian · 08/06/2019 00:21

My husband says, "That's as maybe", and, "As it were", far too often to be comfortable. Drives me potty (though he's lovely, knowwotImean?).

TurboTeddy · 08/06/2019 00:26

“and then she turned round and said...”

Me too, does my head in 😀😀😀😀😀

whatyouhavethough · 08/06/2019 00:27

It's Friyay 🤬

GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery · 08/06/2019 00:28

"Reach out"

"I reached out to Sally in accounts earlier on."

No you didn't Linda, you sent an email.

Unless you're a member of The Four Tops, don't say it.

Unless you're a member of The Four Tops, don't say it

I’m laughing my head off at this comment! Grin

AngeloMysterioso · 08/06/2019 00:33

“Educate yourself”

So. Fucking. Obnoxious.

ForgotwhatIcameinherefor · 08/06/2019 00:39

Thanks 7Days I was probably never going to work that out tonight!

Sooo many of these I agree with. i’ll add people describing themselves as “bubbly”. Always hated it, can’t believe people are still saying it.
On TV shows when a normal enough - until that point - individual describes any room as a “space”, NOOOOO!!!
I had a manager who managed to get “Once more with feeling!” into every single team meeting.
I often wonder if “media training” for reality stars etc consists of much more than instructing them to say “D’you know what “ in front of every response. Maybe to give extra thinking time is it..?
On MN far too many AIBUers are told to “Get a Grip”. What a nasty little phrase.

AngeloMysterioso · 08/06/2019 00:42

Also, there’s a woman I follow on YouTube for tutorials who says eck cetera instead of et cetera... I swear it makes me twitch!

Butterfly98 · 08/06/2019 00:43

Just remembered an old colleague used to say every morning on seeing our boss arriving and tapping in the security code at the glass door 'oh here he comes, let's roll out the red carpet'!

People who say super instead of really. Eg-

We had a super fun day or
It was super busy.

Arghggggg

applesauce1 · 08/06/2019 00:48

anywho

aPengTing · 08/06/2019 00:49

“Rant over”

Only said by the most stupid of people.

Butterfly98 · 08/06/2019 00:49

@Blankscreen yes 'super' this and 'super' that reminds me of the Lego movie where everything is 'awesome'!

Celeb gossip articles on places like the daily fail- ‘showcased her pins’ ‘his latest squeeze’ ‘showed off her bump’ are a just a few of the overused annoying phrases they use

Butterfly98 · 08/06/2019 01:02

The daily fail can't stop using the word 'flaunting' about all female celebrities such as flaunting their baby bumps and flaunting their pins. Their journalists seriously need to expand their vocabulary!

GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery · 08/06/2019 01:05

@movingwiththelightson I hate that too.

Another one... " steps out in a racy number."

  • I don't care.
  • You've just written 500 words about absolutely nothing.
GrandTheftWalrus · 08/06/2019 01:08

I use the phrase "fell pregnant" as I am an unmarried mother and also it was completely unplanned. So fits the description.

But famalan, holibobs, friyay etc are all so annoying!

Pantsomime · 08/06/2019 01:13

My bad
The below ( emails)
To be fair-( why? Do I assume you are not normally)
To be honest with you- (err thanks)
I’m not going to lie -(good glad that’s clear . Don’t trust you now idiot)
Actually
It was like, like and another like, like, then he was like and she wS like then we were all like- why don’t we bin English & have just one word - like- arrrggghh

Cruelstepmother · 08/06/2019 01:28

@Rememberfluffthecat Got paid, used commonly near me by people who receive benefits I've heard people on benefits refer to them as 'my wages' Hmm

TransFannyUltrasound · 08/06/2019 01:41

“I’m not going to lie...”
“I’m not being funny but...”
Always followed by something unnecessary and rude.

Being asked by a therapist what you do to “self-sooth”. Ugh.

tympanic · 08/06/2019 01:50

“Time to rock and roll!”
“At the end of the day...”
“My journey...”
“Soz!”

RoboticSealpup · 08/06/2019 02:06

"We both really love each other." There's no need for the word "both" in there! If you love each other that clearly includes both of you already!

"Can't wait to spend the rest of our lives together." Kind of sounds like you look forward to having spent rest of your life, i.e. to your life being over.

Mummoomoocow · 08/06/2019 02:06

This is so uncomfortable. People really judge other people by the fillers they use? How shallow
