Should I report this?

A few minutes ago I was on the train home and a man got on for one stop with a bike which I am suspicious was stolen. It was a young persons bike, and he was middle aged, and he approached several people on the train asking if they wanted to buy it because he could give them a good price. He then tried to adjust the seat but couldn’t figure out how, before leaving with it at the next stop.

Is it worth reporting? Obviously not expecting the police to investigate, but I thought if someone reported a missing bike it might help. It just seems too trivial for police. Would crime stoppers be better? Or is it just not worth me bothering?

I would, yes. Definitely sounds suspicious.

ISmellBabies · 07/06/2019 21:42

Did you take a photo of him and the bike?

hellenbackagen · 07/06/2019 21:42

yep report - it will be stolen.

AphidEater · 07/06/2019 21:43

I didn’t take a photo (couldn’t have done it surreptitiously) but I wrote a note on my phone with a very detailed description of what both he and the bike looked like

Nah I wouldn’t

hellenbackagen · 07/06/2019 21:54

that could be some poor sods really expensive bike - its clearly stolen so yes - report! let cops recover it and reunite it with its grateful owner.

StoneofDestiny · 07/06/2019 21:59

Yes report

Lochroy · 07/06/2019 22:00

Yes, report it, and if it's all genuine then it will be fine for the man. If not, it's helping the owner who has had their bike nicked.

AphidEater · 07/06/2019 22:04

Thanks for the sense check! Will report now.

Why not bigredlondonbus?

If you had something stolen wouldn't you want someone to report it if they thought the might help get it back to you?

I know a few people who've had expensive bikes stolen and I know they'd be really grateful for someone looking out for them.

If he's some weirdo who thinks a train is a good place to sell his bike, no harm done but better to say something that nothing imo

You're not being unreasonable to report it. However I don't Imagine much will be done. Its not that the Police don't care about petty crime and theft. Due to these ridiculous cuts. They can't care. Sadly they have bigger things to worry about ie murder and rape ect.
