Train track braces after twin blocks

Hello, my 14 year old son has just finished the ‘twin block’ phase of his braces/ dental treatment and is now going to have train tracks fitted. At the moment his back teeth don’t sit together at all, which makes chewing hard. The orthodontist does not seem at all concerned about his back teeth not sitting together.

Has anyone else had experience with twin blocks and do the kids eventually get their back teeth to go together later on in the treatment. Feels like you take your child along and put blind trust in the orthodontists and pray what they're doing is going to work. Many thanks for any advice.

Hi, my ds (16) has the twin blocks at the moment. We had a follow up appointment and his dentist said they are working and his bite is even now. He has another month or so then he is hoping to just wear them at night. He has been very good about wearing them although he can't eat with them in and talks even less now( if that's possible as he was a one word teen before)
Twin track braces are next which he doesn't seem to fazed about. Although I'm a bit worried about his teeth brushing skills.😀
I would say ask lots of questions at your next appointment to make sure your happy with the treatment.

Hello, many thanks for the reply. My son was really conscientious about wearing the twin blocks, which was great even though they are pretty awful. And now he's not at all worried about the train tracks, as the twin blocks were so uncomfy. Bit of a result, as I remember having a real trauma when I had train tracks put on all those years ago !
