To think nursery shouldn't be putting pictures of children on FB?

Going back to work soon and getting everything in place for DD to go to the local nursery.

Whilst having a look at various nurseries in the area, I found their FB page and liked it, thinking it would provide updates etc. Its actually pictures of all the children (ranging from babies to after schoolers) on their various days out/doing activities.

This is just a normal business page and not a request to join group. I understand that they (most likely) ask parents to sign consent forms for pictures to be taken, but I would expect them to be used within the nursery, not posted publicly on FB.

Am I just being a bit PFB?

They'll need to ask for your consent so I'd assume the parents of these children have given it. You can refuse Smile

Satchell · 04/06/2019 21:18

You'll be asked if you're ok with images of your child being shared on Facebook by most nurseries I should think.

Praiseyou · 04/06/2019 21:18

Ours has a consent form. It clearly stated the photos could be used on the company website and Facebook. It's a form of advertising.

I didn't sign the consent. It's never been an issue.

Sweetooth92 · 04/06/2019 21:19

I think it varies. My sons nursery post photos but it’s usually of displays/what they’ve done etc (with permission forms done) any photos of the kids are back of head/arms doing an activity so none of the kids are identifiable. However I have friends with kids in other nurseries who’s photos are on with faces included on their nurseries page. I imagine if you don’t give photo permission your child wouldn’t be used and they will probably specify between internal and external use

yellowgreenbluepurple · 04/06/2019 21:19

They will have asked the parents, no one without permission will have their photos posted. My child's nursery has consent to put photos on the Facebook page.

Oysterbabe · 04/06/2019 21:19

Ours does this. I gave consent first.

meepmoop · 04/06/2019 21:19

We had to sign to say we are happy for them to be put on Facebook.

AlphaBlocks · 04/06/2019 21:19

Its surprising how many parents don't care about photos on Facebook. I go to a Baby Sensory class and am the only mum that always raises her hand to refuse consent to photos being taken or going online.

kaytee87 · 04/06/2019 21:20

If the parents gave their consent then there's no issue.

CostanzaG · 04/06/2019 21:21

You have to sign a consent form. If you aren't happy about it then just day no!
I love seeing the pics they put up.

Bobbiepin · 04/06/2019 21:22

Ours puts emojis over the kids faces. None of them are identifiable, consent form or not.

FangsTasticBeast · 04/06/2019 21:22

Our school does it, we have to give consent though

Lots of dc aren’t allowed to be photographed for one reason of another so parents don’t post other people’s dcs on social media themselves (or shouldn’t do)

Lazypuppy · 04/06/2019 21:24

If you don't like photos on fb then just don't sign the form, its very easy and like pp have said its a form of advertising

donkir · 04/06/2019 21:25

I work in a nursery and we have 2 Facebook pages. One is a public one and one is a secret group for just parents with current children at the setting. All parents are asked if they consent to one or the other, both or neither. If the children don't have consent then we blur their faces out so they are unidentifiable.
We've had lots of positive feedback especially from the secret group.

m4rdybum · 04/06/2019 21:26

I understand that people give consent but wonder why?

The page is open to everyone and anyone (I'd understand more if it was a private group for parents).

I plan to not give consent.

You don't have to understand why other parents give consent.
Just you do you.

Vgbeat · 04/06/2019 21:28

I've always given consent. I have no problem with my daughter's picture being public. I like seeing what they are up to and being able to show family etc.. I also think it shows they are open about what they are doing too.

Lazypuppy · 04/06/2019 21:29

@m4rdybum

I understand that people give consent but wonder why?

Cause its just pictures of my dd playing at nursery, for me personally there's no reason why i wouldn't want the pictures up. My social media is full of pictures of my dd

yellowgreenbluepurple · 04/06/2019 21:31

@m4rdybum because I don't see a reason not to give consent.

Manclife1 · 04/06/2019 21:31

Why would people NOT give consent?

bridgetreilly · 04/06/2019 21:32

How else do nurseries market themselves if no one gives permission for happy smiling photos of their children to be used? Unless you have an actual reason to withhold consent, I think it's a bit PFB, to be honest.

KipperTheFrog · 04/06/2019 21:32

Just dont sign the consent form. My DD's nursery post pics on their Facebook page of activities the children do, but the most you see are the children's hands!

Dontcarewhatimdoing · 04/06/2019 21:33

"I understand that people give consent but wonder why?"

But why not? What harm do you think is going to come to your child due to their image being seen by strangers? Do you cover their face when you go out so no one can see them?

CostanzaG · 04/06/2019 21:38

I don't see what the issue is?

AlphaBlocks · 04/06/2019 21:40

I don't share any photos of DC on FB, not even my own page. I'll send friends & family pics via WhatsApp. A couple reasons, maybe DC don't want a trail of baby/children's photos all over SM. Maybe they'll also choose not to have SM at all as many young people are now. Theres also increasing use of facial recognition software through SM which we just don't know the consequences of yet.
