Appalled to hear that there is a pond that only women are allowed in to swim. Utterly ridiculous.

There is also a pond for the men as well. And a mixed sex one. Just so you know.

When I , and others, complained about the lack of private cubicles to my gym, we didn't need to justify anything further to see them reinstated but thanks for your concern Smile

don't be, the men are clearly allowed to go into the women only part anyway.

which I would think is a lot more shocking than giving people the choice to go into a single or mixed gender place but hey ho

Outofinspiration · 05/06/2019 19:19

People do realise that the data is suggesting that rates of sexual assault are higher in mixed sex changing rooms, yes?

“When I , and others, complained about the lack of private cubicles to my gym,”

You would have had to articulate your complaint.

StreetwiseHercules · 05/06/2019 19:22

“which I would think is a lot more shocking than giving people the choice to go into a single or mixed gender place but hey ho”

Do you think there should be Male only and female only golf clubs?

StreetwiseHercules · 05/06/2019 19:25

“Just under 90 per cent of complaints regarding changing room sexual assaults, voyeurism and harassment are about incidents in unisex facilities.”

Could this be related to the fact that the overwhelming majority of swimming changing facilities are unisex facilities?

I think research would show that most violent crime occurs at night. Should we ban the night?

Tunnocks34 · 05/06/2019 19:29

Our gym has this. It’s not a massive deal to be honest and it really, really doesn’t bother me. There are a massive amount of cubicles. I go around 4/5 times a week for swimming and my sons swimming lessons and there are never any issues with seeing any naked people, or inappropriate leering. I never feel uncomfortable getting myself changed, or my son. Never feel unsafe.

EverardDigby · 05/06/2019 19:40

My gym has a big open area and two cubicles, they are generally used by self conscious teenagers, and a couple of friends who've had mastectomies also say they tend to go into the cubicles. I was there on Saturday night (exciting life!) and I was the only person in the changing room, which made me think I'd be pretty scared if a male-bodied person appeared as obviously it's enclosed and no CCTV to record an attack. When I used to use mixed changing in London I found it pretty unpleasant with men staring and muttering at me in the shower, and generally a level of vandalism you don't tend to find in women's changing rooms.

MorondelaFrontera · 05/06/2019 19:45

You would have had to articulate your complaint.

I will not use communal changing areas and expect the private cubicles to be put back.

There. That's pretty much the content of my complaint at the time. Grin

As you said, the gym being a business, it was enough.

Purpleartichoke · 05/06/2019 19:51

The older pool further from our house not only has no cubicles in the locker room, it also has group showers. Just a tiled area with shower heads side by side sticking out of the wall. There is literally no where to have privacy. No cubicles. No curtains. Everything and everyone is just out in the open.

Purpleartichoke · 05/06/2019 19:51

That is what I think of when answering if I want mixed sex facilities

Symbol · 05/06/2019 19:55

With cubicles it's fine. I probably wouldn't get changed into or out of a swimming costume in a changing room without cubicles whether it was full of men and women or just women as I'm a prude.

redcarbluecar · 05/06/2019 19:56

The swimming pool I go to has mixed sex changing rooms. It doesn’t bother me, but would if there weren’t cubicles.

2Rebecca · 06/06/2019 09:06

StreetwiseHercules obviously has an agenda. I think he's made his point now, the constant belittling of everyone else's concerns and telling women they must reply to him is revealing. No-one else is demanding other posters reply to them.

icannotremember · 06/06/2019 09:10

When the cubicles have proper closing doors I'm fine with them. In fact as I have all sons I prefer them, as my DC can stay with me without someone throwing a wobble because a 10 year old boy is in the same room as them.

This I'm afraid is our new reality. You may well be unknowingly starring in your own creepy porn video right now.

"Somebody needs help. They are sick and they need to be put in jail. It makes me think, like, where else around here, these people put these cameras? It's scary and now I'm going to be looking in every direction when I go to the bathroom in all of these stores," Wilson added.

StreetwiseHercules · 07/06/2019 09:08

“telling women they must reply to him is revealing.”

This didn’t occur. Why claim it did? Are you a dishonest person generally?

Xenia · 07/06/2019 09:11

Given most men have a one track mind women only (i.e. and including those who have fully transitioned under current English law) changing tends to be a good idea.

Dandelion1993 · 07/06/2019 09:15

Our local pool is just one huge area with lots of cubicles. No specific male female changing areas.

I've never had a problem with it.

ImMeantToBeWorking · 07/06/2019 09:18

There is a female open changing room in Pennys (Primark) in Dublin and I think it is so weird. In a gym changing room at least you can cover up with your towel!

I think a mixed changing room is just wrong!! I would avoid that gym personally!

TheSerenDipitY · 07/06/2019 09:31

our feelings are irrelevant on the matter, as "womens" changing rooms are already mixed sex... remember men can be women any given day of the week and are legally allowed in the "womens" changing rooms...

FishCanFly · 07/06/2019 09:46

local swimming pool just has cubicles. Fair enough and convenient for families

FannyWork · 07/06/2019 10:04

My local pool had a man prosecuted in 2010 for filming women in unisex cubicles under the cubicle walls. Also heard of a similar case in Darlington where the camera was hidden in vents. There have been other incidents at my local centre that I’ve been aware of ‘peeping’ without filming too but they haven’t led to prosecutions.

My local pool has communal male and female rooms with no cubicles and unisex cubicles for non-members. I’m a member so I can use the members only mixed sex areas which include cubicles. I would probably still go if I had to use mixed sex cubicles, but I’d be very wary. I use them sometimes with my kids and I do check the floor and that nothing is coming underneath. It also means the age I would let my kids go alone is a good 3-4 years older than otherwise.

Hoppinggreen · 07/06/2019 10:05

Floor to ceiling with solid lockable door? No issue with it at all
