Just that really not loos but changing rooms
Gyms swimming pools
Keep in mind many changing rooms have no cubicles or if they do they simply have curtains like this images.app.goo.gl/H6pdSPuXJiUqjs817

You could always give it some thought

well, I have. As you said, one is a PRIVATE space (and a curtain or cubicle door makes 0 difference on the level of privacy, it's still a public place), the other is a public space but with not much more than underwear. How long does it take to put your underwear in your cubicle anyway? You don't spend 30mn completely in the nude in there, do you?

If you are in a completely empty changing room, chances are the swimming pool will be just as empty.

The whole thing makes no sense.

wonkylegs · 05/06/2019 15:56

Our local pool is all mixed sex changing - all normal cubicles (some bigger than others for accessibility, family or baby change etc ) and it's really good especially if you go for swimming lessons or family swims as there is no faffing with who gets what child.
I have no problem with it.
The staff are good at making sure there is no mucking around even when they have the teenagers evening session.

Ah Broomstick, priest people are the worst Grin

Why is a poster on here trying to make women justify why they don't want to be naked in the same room as men? seriously creepy. Women are entitled to privacy. Males should have to justify why they want to be in an open plan changing room with naked females not the other way round.

StreetwiseHercules · 05/06/2019 18:26

“Why is a poster on here trying to make women justify why they don't want to be naked in the same room as men? seriously creepy. Women are entitled to privacy. ”

What’s wrong with asking people to justify that? Cubicles provide plenty of privacy, and, as has been established, open plan mixed sec changing rooms with no cubicles don’t exist.

which the cubicles provides, that's the point. No one is asking you to share a cubicle with a complete stranger.

If men can identify as women then open plan changing rooms become mixed sex. I don't want any men in open plan changing rooms

gamerwidow · 05/06/2019 18:44

Mixed sex with cubicles and doors - no problem
Mixed sex with cubicles and curtains - can live with but prefer doors
Mixed sex and no cubicles - no thank you.

StreetwiseHercules · 05/06/2019 18:45

“If men can identify as women then open plan changing rooms become mixed sex. I don't want any men in open plan changing rooms”

And that’s fair enough. Just use facilities which have cubicles then.

StreetwiseHercules · 05/06/2019 18:46

“Mixed sex and no cubicles - no thank you.”

Thankfully this doesn’t exist.

gamerwidow · 05/06/2019 18:47

StreetwiseHercules
Entirely true, phew.

MorondelaFrontera · 05/06/2019 18:52

Thankfully this doesn’t exist.

In the UK, yet.
They do, at least in Germany and Sweden in my own limited experience, so nothing stop them from being put in place here.

I can't stand open-plan and communal anything, so I would make a fuss, but that's not the point.

StreetwiseHercules · 05/06/2019 18:52

Makes one wonder why people are talking about it.

StreetwiseHercules · 05/06/2019 18:54

What goes on in Nordic and Germanic countries is entirely a matter for them. There is no market for this in the UK, and no suggestion that there ever will be beyond the fevered imaginations of some people here on mumsnet.

gamerwidow · 05/06/2019 18:59

Nordic and Germanic countries are well known for being very relaxed about nakedness. It would be unsurprising for mixed sex changing to be be common and unremarkable in these countries. It doesn’t mean it’s likely the UK will follow suit.

MorondelaFrontera · 05/06/2019 19:00

StreetwiseHercules

that's your opinion.

No one would have believed men would be given access to "women-only" swimming places a few years ago.

Things change. Not sure why you get so hanged up on the idea.

SeamusFinnigan · 05/06/2019 19:05

I think a PP's comment about not wanting others to 'consent on my behalf' nails it. For me it's an absolute no. We shouldn't have to explain why, it shouldn't have to be for any reason other than we dont want men in that space!

StreetwiseHercules · 05/06/2019 19:05

“No one would have believed men would be given access to "women-only" swimming places a few years ago. ”

What “women only swimming places” are these?

StreetwiseHercules · 05/06/2019 19:06

“We shouldn't have to explain why, ”

Yes you should. We live in an age of logic and reason.

EllieMentry · 05/06/2019 19:08

I like the single-sex changing facilities at my gym. Nobody is flaunting bodies but there's no feeling of having to cover up either. People just get on with changing in peace.

There's also a single-sex sauna within the changing rooms and it's lovely not to have to worry about towels slipping or being naked if you prefer. It's a space where women chat and it feels safe.

If they created cubicles and made it mixed sex, it would completely change the dynamic.

MorondelaFrontera · 05/06/2019 19:10

What “women only swimming places” are these?

never heard of Hampstead Heath’s pond for a start?

If you want to deny things, go for it, your refusal to accept simple facts won't make them disappear.

MorondelaFrontera · 05/06/2019 19:11

Yes you should. We live in an age of logic and reason.

No, we don't have to justify everything to a random obtuse poster on MN. We can politely reply, but we don't need to go into it further Smile

DodoPatrol · 05/06/2019 19:12

Hampstead Heath ponds, as in the news this week or last?

StreetwiseHercules · 05/06/2019 19:13

No I haven’t heard of Hampstead Heath pond. Should everyone have heard of Hampstead Heath Pond? 😆

Appalled to hear that there is a pond that only women are allowed in to swim. Utterly ridiculous. Like men only golf clubs. I bet you’re opposed to those.

StreetwiseHercules · 05/06/2019 19:15

“No, we don't have to justify everything to a random obtuse poster on MN”

You do need to justify it though if you start kicking off in a leisure centre or at CenterParcs. Otherwise you’ll like like you don’t know what you’re objecting to and be laughed out of the place.
