CF eBay chancer: AIBU/WWYD?

First time poster.

I sold a Dyson airwrap last week as unused (which it is, it was an unneeded gift). Buyer messaged the day after purchase asking when it was arriving despite me providing delivery information. I paid almost £30 for delivery to cover its insurance. The package was lost over the weekend due to an admitted fault by Parcel force. Buyer emailing all weekend chasing despite me reassuring that I'd spent 2-3 hours on the phone/going to the post office to chase. It arrived today, one day after the estimated delivery time. She is now claiming the item is used. I asked for photos and they are not of my hair and not the condition the item was sent in. I know this but I can't prove it to eBay. She wants £100 refund and has sent a string of nasty messages all morning. I have acknowledged to her that I accept that she is unhappy with the whole experience but that I felt this was too high. Privately, I feel that she is seeking compensation for the late delivery or trying her luck but I have no way of demonstrating this to eBay. I am heavily pregnant and whilst I would Ordinarily be disputing this, I am considering relenting. AIBU/WWYD?

What a nightmare. I've never had a really bad buying scenario when I'm selling though some terrible items have turned up at my door as a buyer, I've been appallled at the barefaced cheek !

Stick to your guns of tracked return and then you will refund.

Who is the buyer? Please PM me so I can block her!

Qweenbee · 05/06/2019 18:48

I hope that ebay see the story keeps changing and that they see sense.

Vivianebrookskoviak · 05/06/2019 18:55

I would say tell her to send it back and ok you'll have to pay the postage but don't give her anything until you've recieved it back.
You can also report her once you give the refund. It sounds very much to me like she probably already has one at home and wants your brand new one to sell on so she's sending pictures of her old one.
Check her feedback also including all negative feedback left for her. She's definitely got form by the sounds of it so that'll tell you how many others she's conned.
Once it's all sorted add her to your blocked bidders list.

inchoccyheaven · 05/06/2019 19:02

Can i ask how heavy the hairdryer is as i would think that if you get it back and either have to pay postage or resell it, then royal mail special delivery would have been cheaper. That covers you up to £500 and if it weighed over 2kg which is heavy it would be £26.60 but arrives next day.

NannyKasey · 05/06/2019 19:05

Other side of the coin here, I reluctantly agreed to buy a motorbike helmet for my exH on my ebay account. It didn't arrive and I got so much shit from the seller, (I asked for proof of purchase so I could take it up with the Royal Mail not the seller) that I reported them to eBay (Royal Mail were great and refunded the money). Put me off using e-bay for years

lauramaisyday · 05/06/2019 19:09

Is she claiming through PayPal or ebay as they have diffrent return policy's ebay will make you pay return PayPal won't its up to the buyer with PayPal.
Ask for her to return say it has to be in the exact condition I sent it in and if its not then you will claim for the money back for the product to so you will have the money and the hoover so she better make sure its in the same condition.
Or you can tell ebay that is a picture of a diffrent hoover and she's trying to con you. Also tell her that you know that your on to her con and you will address it with ebay to hopefully get her struck off and even inform the police of fraud if ebay don't listen. More of a threat then an actral thing but she may think twice on about continuing the claim.

Although what I don't get is if its brand new never used why is it missing a bit and why did you say here it had its original box :S as if it was unused because you had another surely it would still be in its box with everything. And maybe that's what she was expecting a hoover that had been just lifted out to be inspected and put back in its box to be sold. I do have a broblem with people saying brand new with box tags ect. When they have been used wash and put back and the ink they can pass off as new because it has the box/tags. Aka I'm sick of getting clothes new with tag when they smell like they have been washed and have stuff down then but the tag was a safety pin tag they stuck back on it when they have been worn.

MotherOfDragonite · 05/06/2019 19:10

Wow, I've learned a lot from this thread! Sorry you've had this happen, OP. Hopefully have learned enough to avoid similar...

AlaskanOilBaron · 05/06/2019 19:11

Oh my god poor you OP, I'm absolutely outraged on your behalf.

What's her feedback like????

AlaskanOilBaron · 05/06/2019 19:12

Ebay has to take a firmer stand with buyers.

manicmij · 05/06/2019 19:13

Zazamoon Notice it is an estimated delivery day case, surely an estimate is not a guaranteed day of delivery. Will she actually have a case if an estimate given? Seems to be an expert chancer. Ask for return to verify "faults" before refunding. Most companies want the goods before giving a refund.

maureen17 · 05/06/2019 19:14

I use ebay .. to sell and buy ..really put off buying clothes wise... recently bought a fake fur bolera ... stank of cigarettes really stank.. eBay opened a case ..but buyer rejected within must have minutes of receiving request ... what a skank they must be!

ShitAtScarbble · 05/06/2019 19:14

Has anybody found the buyer's username yet? I really want to see my controls to avoid people like this!

MrsMaisel · 05/06/2019 19:19

You should have kept the AirWrap. I love mine. Hate bad buyers. Have had my share of bad sellers too though.

MamaOfBothTeams · 05/06/2019 19:20

I hope you get it back and she doesn't get away with this, I've never sold anything on eBay as these stories make me too wary. Fingers crossed for you Op that it's all sorted and you can relax with your pregnancy

lauramaisyday · 05/06/2019 19:21

Wow just read that she stated that she used it. Tell ebay that she has used it and it won't come back In the new condition she was sent it. She can only claim her money now if it didn't function also who to say that's not hair from when she used it she's landanded herself right in it, she has to keep it now or send it back for you to give her a partial refund. I'd message her that to that she has now decreased the value of your item and if she is so unhappy paying the full amount send it back and I will give you a refund of the amount I can now sell it after you have depreciated its value by using it in her home. Almost like a rental charge for using the item. Lol see how she would reply to that.

winniestone37 · 05/06/2019 19:21

MyKingdomforaNameChange if item is alleged not as described seller pays return

MrsWombat · 05/06/2019 19:22

I know someone who had a similar issue last week with an item of children's clothing (it sounds like the same nutty person!) and after reading the conversation Ebay sided with the seller and sent the buyer a free returns postage label to get the item back. The buyer then mysteriously said they had binned the item. Hmm

ZazuMoon · 05/06/2019 19:22

Oh no. Slightly worried at all of the posters who have found the listing! 😮 Maybe I've given too much information or you are all super sleuths.

@TigerTooth my husband bought it as a pregnancy treat present (which is really lovely) but I just stuck it under the bed in its box for a few weeks as I wanted to use the money for baby stuff without upsetting him. If I'd just told him straight away we could have sent it back to Dyson and avoided this whole mess. 😢

Ebay don't always find with the buyer. Had a bad experience buying an expensive new item from someone, when it arrived we noticed damage to the door. We assumed it was damage in delivery until we took it fully out of the box and found the faulty goods notice they forgot to remove. Ebay still did not find in our favour as the seller claimed the notice was for a different machine and must have accidentally fell in Hmm.

That said, your buyer is totally taking the piss though.

ZazuMoon · 05/06/2019 19:26

@MrsMaisel It's odd but the idea of doing anything with my hair has made me feel so queasy during pregnancy. I just tie it back when wet now. So I just shoved the box out of sight and then inspected it when listing it to make sure there weren't any hairs or fluff/dust inside.

OP posts:
ZazuMoon · 05/06/2019 19:31

@lauramaisyday I meant the outer brown cardboard box as well I kept from Dyson and just left it all in there after opening it. It isn't missing anything, the buyer just claimed it was when I stated that the hair wasn't mine. She just kept adding a list of things that were allegedly wrong with it. Each time something new. Yet she began using it immediately and doesn't want to return it.

pollymere · 05/06/2019 19:37

My friend bought a Dyson new from Tesco and had to return it as it was full of rubbish! Are you sure it was pristine condition? It might not be your fault, but it might not be theirs either. On the flipside, they could've used it so it would then be used. Explain to eBay why it was new, keep your cool and remain polite but firm.

pollymere · 05/06/2019 19:38

Crosspost...

mamaofboyzz · 05/06/2019 19:52

eBay are awful I really hope you get sorted! What a nightmare

lauramaisyday · 05/06/2019 19:55

Get you now sorry for the confusion I think you will win this case as like I said she carnt return it in its original condition. And if she does return it its a waste of her time because you can claim its not sent back in original condition and get the keep the hoover and her money.
