CF eBay chancer: AIBU/WWYD?

First time poster.

I sold a Dyson airwrap last week as unused (which it is, it was an unneeded gift). Buyer messaged the day after purchase asking when it was arriving despite me providing delivery information. I paid almost £30 for delivery to cover its insurance. The package was lost over the weekend due to an admitted fault by Parcel force. Buyer emailing all weekend chasing despite me reassuring that I'd spent 2-3 hours on the phone/going to the post office to chase. It arrived today, one day after the estimated delivery time. She is now claiming the item is used. I asked for photos and they are not of my hair and not the condition the item was sent in. I know this but I can't prove it to eBay. She wants £100 refund and has sent a string of nasty messages all morning. I have acknowledged to her that I accept that she is unhappy with the whole experience but that I felt this was too high. Privately, I feel that she is seeking compensation for the late delivery or trying her luck but I have no way of demonstrating this to eBay. I am heavily pregnant and whilst I would Ordinarily be disputing this, I am considering relenting. AIBU/WWYD?

I hope she just fucks off now. She was chancing her arm.

lhastingsmua · 14/06/2019 13:46

Has PayPal given her a deadline to return it by? Hopefully this will be over soon

ZazuMoon · 14/06/2019 20:22

@Ihastingsmua no deadline bit surely she can't hold onto it for more than a few days?

She seemed to have an awful lot of time on her hands with the amount of messages she was sending and I had to explain that I was working and couldn't reply for a few hours at a time. So she just might be spiteful enough to return it in crap condition.

Hopefully this is up to date

www.paypal.com/cs/smarthelp/article/we’ll-process-the-refund-when-return-of-the-item(s)-has-been-confirmed-faq3948]

Seems to suggest 10 days to return the item.

ItsThisOneThing · 14/06/2019 21:02

Nightmare! Hope you get it sorted, how stressful for you.

I agree with others - stick with Facebook marketplace - you should get a local buyer & can meet face to face. I don't use eBay at all anymore.

julensaor · 15/06/2019 00:06

@19lottie82
seller with over 10,000 stars and a rating over 97
That’s a terrible seller rating. With sales of that volume and that percentage, I’d assume a chinese seller

Good enough for me, what criteria would you be happy with @lottie82 Grin. British company, received in 2 days, unless they rocket launched it from China. Lots of big companies sell on eBay, lots of big companies move their refurbished models onto to third parties. Ebay didn't get as big as it is from people sewing and selling items from their front room or from fake goods from China.

19lottie82 · 15/06/2019 00:09

julensaor I’m glad you had a good experience, but honestly, 97% with that amount of sales is pretty crap! Go to their feedback and read all the negatives.......

For a good eBay seller with a high volume of sales I’d expect >99.5%

ZazuMoon · 17/06/2019 21:03

I hope the 10 day rule is still correct. Not heard from her a week on. Hoping she doesn't decide to send it back at the last minute.

Also checked out the address on street view and it seems like a deprived area. I'm not sure if that alone should weigh too heavily in my assessment but it does contribute to a picture of someone who didn't want to pay full price when combined with the rest of her behaviour.

When did PayPal tell her to return it?

Poppyhopscotch · 18/06/2019 11:01

Congratulations on your pregnancy and hope you're keeping well. It's horrible how some people will take advantage. I definitely won't be selling anything of high value on eBay

ZazuMoon · 18/06/2019 13:05

@fedup21 one week ago.

@Poppyhopscotch thank you! Just the last few weeks now until he's here. I just wanted to avoid any drama in the next few weeks and hope this all calms down.

That’s interesting - I’m pretty sure PayPal gives buyers a clear deadline to return the disputed item by, otherwise they will automatically close the case. I think it is 10 days too. I guess they didn’t pass the date over to you, but they would probably tell you how long she has left over the phone.

lhastingsmua · 18/06/2019 18:01

One slightly good thing about this is that if she has decided to keep it, she can’t open another PayPal case in the future! PayPal gives buyers 180 days to open a dispute, so if the current case ends well the sale is essentially final!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/06/2019 19:40

I really don't understand eBay. Surely they can't think this is sustainable

I believe they know it's not sustainable for small private sellers, but the point seems to be they'd rather just have volume sellers now, who make them the most commission - and such folk shift enough to absorb the fraudsters

The moral seems to be never to list anything at a value you couldn't afford to lose, because there's a high chance you will lose it ... doubly so for anything even remotely "designer"

ZazuMoon · 18/06/2019 22:04

@puzzled I think you are right in that this was the first time I've listed something at a cost I couldn't afford to absorb.

EBay had the cheek to ask me for feedback on my recent selling experience today... 😂

ZazuMoon · 21/06/2019 19:08

Update: PayPal closed the case in my favour. So she was clearly just trying her luck at getting a discount. I'm now trying to get the ebay feedback removed. Thanks everyone for your support!

Excellent result!

PowerslidePanda · 21/06/2019 19:21

Great news! Glad she didn't get away with it! Well done for fighting back!

MamaOfBothTeams · 21/06/2019 19:24

So happy for you op now try to enjoy the rest of your pregnancy Thanks

Cherrysoup · 21/06/2019 19:25

Well done! So often eBay cases just favour the buyer. Really pleased for you.

BringMeTea · 21/06/2019 19:26

👍🏼 Great news. Skanky woman. Well done for fighting her.

Owlbert · 21/06/2019 19:29

Great news! Enjoy the last bit of your pregnancy!

lhastingsmua · 21/06/2019 21:01

Such a satisfying result!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/06/2019 21:01

Really, really pleased for you, Zazu - but surprised, I admit. I don't get the impression you're a huge volume seller (?) so wouldn't have expected them to give a toss

I doubt you'll ever take the risk of selling anything expensive on there again, though; like so many of us, "once bitten" and all that ... Wink

MediocreOmens · 21/06/2019 21:10

Well done @ZazuMoon - excellent result!
