First time poster.

I sold a Dyson airwrap last week as unused (which it is, it was an unneeded gift). Buyer messaged the day after purchase asking when it was arriving despite me providing delivery information. I paid almost £30 for delivery to cover its insurance. The package was lost over the weekend due to an admitted fault by Parcel force. Buyer emailing all weekend chasing despite me reassuring that I'd spent 2-3 hours on the phone/going to the post office to chase. It arrived today, one day after the estimated delivery time. She is now claiming the item is used. I asked for photos and they are not of my hair and not the condition the item was sent in. I know this but I can't prove it to eBay. She wants £100 refund and has sent a string of nasty messages all morning. I have acknowledged to her that I accept that she is unhappy with the whole experience but that I felt this was too high. Privately, I feel that she is seeking compensation for the late delivery or trying her luck but I have no way of demonstrating this to eBay. I am heavily pregnant and whilst I would Ordinarily be disputing this, I am considering relenting. AIBU/WWYD?

I wonder her name, I had something very very similar before! The lady had 100% positive feedback, but that's because when you leave negative feedback as a seller with a comment it automatically converts to a positive. When I scrolled through her feedback a lot was similar. She refused to send images of the damage though, which is different, but still demanded a refund. It put me right off ebay, as a seller there is actually surprisingly little protection.

ZazuMoon · 05/06/2019 17:46

@Ferret She not only alleged it was covered in hair but that the bristles were bent, the heat pad is missing (which can be seen in the listing), then the bristles were bent, it just went on and on. I was even scared to take the components out of the box to photograph in case I got fluff or stuff inside the packaging. She admitted the warranty hadn't been activated but still claimed the item was used.

I’m currently going through a similar issue. Buyer has zero feedback, says item was unsealed and is not working etc. I have photos showing the item was sealed and they are getting aggressive via messages saying they are sending it to old address although I’ve provided new address as just moved. eBay are shit and are siding with this con artist despite the expensive electrical item being brand new and sealed. I will be closing my account after 16 years and sticking with Facebook marketplace which is free and no hassle. Some folk are out to con you. All you can do is phone ebay and explain. If they return the item and it’s not the same one or in new condition, you can dispute it. Don’t let them take the piss. Challenge it all the way x

STUMP1966 · 05/06/2019 17:49

I had exactly the same problem with a buyer, in the end I called ebay who looked through all the messages, said it was not down to me if post was late..
they contacted the buyer and told them no refund.. and they would not be allowed to rate me either

ebay customer service were outstanding

ZazuMoon · 05/06/2019 17:50

@PhrixPhrox it was sent in the original packaging including the original Dyson box and outer box which was very tightly packed so hopefully she would just return it in that.

Hate eBay, sold a phone once, got good feedback then 29 days later buyer said it didn’t work anymore, had to refund them, sold a child’s coat apparently was stained, got it back it stunk of fags & had no stain on it even, washed it & listed again that time got more than the first time around, sent items 2nd class signed for, item didn’t reach buyer (Royal Mail took to their local depot) buyer gave me negative feedback & few weeks later parcel came back to me, sent pics to buyer who wasn’t arsed in the slightest & refused to change feedback!

ZazuMoon · 05/06/2019 17:56

She's now claiming £225 refund as well as the item. I even explained to her when her delivery was one day past ebay's delivery time line that I was doing all I could, spending my lunch breaks phoning and going over to the sorting office at the weekend to sort it out and that I was heavily pregnant so just bear with me. And she still continued with a 'not delivered' case until I showed the evidence that it had been delivered and received by her specifically. Then it changed to not as described and she keeps adding little details as to why it's used.

Oh goodness, I have had to email today, to say my fabric hasn’t arrived, to an eBay seller.
But it genuinely hasn’t, and I’ve waited all week, to make it into cushions ( hopefully)
I hope it comes while I still have a little spare time, but might need to wait another week for them to try and track it.
It says 48hr Royal Mail, on the conditions, but it’s been over a week, so they either didn’t post it, or it’s lost.

Be very wary of eBay, my nephew sold a lot of Xbox stuff and console, the buyer disputed something, and my nephew lost all of his money, the console and games, the buyer never returned the items.
Quite heartbreaking really for the nephew ( really too young to be on eBay at the time , but he’d done it all without his Mum knowing )

Jogonandshutup · 05/06/2019 18:01

In my experience ebay ALWAYS side with the buyer - no matter how many messages, pictures you send to prove your side. Get your item back - do not give her any money. You have her address - keep it in mind for if you’re ever around her way... 😬

WaitingForMyFabric · 05/06/2019 18:02

Keep going with eBay, fingers crossed for you OP

Jogonandshutup · 05/06/2019 18:03

Don’t sell to 0% feedback either!!!

Jogonandshutup · 05/06/2019 18:03

Ring eBay - speak to them it is much easier 👍🏻

TigerTooth · 05/06/2019 18:04

Don’t give her money and the stain - fuck that!
Can’t you collect it? Where is she?
The problem is that she could, in theory send you a box of bricks with recorded delivery! And claim she returned a Dyson.
I would contact EBay and Insist it was new but offer a full refund as a gesture of goodwill when it is returned.
Just wondering - Are you SURE that whoever gifted you the Fyson didn’t use it? Could she be telling the truth?

Bokky · 05/06/2019 18:13

Have you kept a copy of the serial number anywhere?

Ninabean17 · 05/06/2019 18:14

In my experience, Ebay always side with the buyer. It's so unfair, especially if the buyer is clearly lying! After selling my laptop a few years ago and going through hell I'll never sell in there again. It's just too much hassle.

bmbonanza · 05/06/2019 18:18

She needs to return it but usually the seller will have to pay the return postage if the buyer is saying it is not as described. I am sure she is scamming you, but as you say it is impossible to prove. One reason why I dont sell on ebay unless it can be collected/inspected.

SinkGirl · 05/06/2019 18:24

She literally can’t return it in the condition she bought it, as she’s used it and activated the warranty - so surely even if she returns it, she can’t have a full refund?

On top of this, there’s a good chance she’ll just return an old / broken one rather than the one you sent. Any chance your pics have caught the serial number?

QueenBeex · 05/06/2019 18:25

She's definitely a cheeky fucker op!

foreverhanging · 05/06/2019 18:31

I also found the listing. It is so not used in your pictures. How ridiculous is this buyer OMG!

BrokenWing · 05/06/2019 18:32

dh had a similar situation recently. He sold a used BMW catalytic convertor. The buyer said the inner workings of it (the expensive bit) were missing and demanded a refund. dh didnt have any photos of the inside as they weren't accessible to photo so no proof. The buyer logged a complaint and sent back the item (well he sent back a Merc bit of exhaust instead!). Ebay sided with dh and the buyer was banned, I assume because he had previous form.

They don't always side with the buyer.

Gruzinkerbell1 · 05/06/2019 18:32

Professional eBay con artist

EnglishRose13 · 05/06/2019 18:36

This buyer sounds absolutely mental.

I really hope eBay side with you.

Also, I love that Karen Millen dress.

SinkGirl · 05/06/2019 18:41

eBay opened sellers up this when they took away the ability to leave negative feedback for buyers. I wish everyone who’s lost money as a result of this would start a class action lawsuit (in America at least, not sure it’s a thing here!). Makes me furious!

Trudij123 · 05/06/2019 18:46

What a cow. Hope eBay side with you OP !

fedup21 · 05/06/2019 18:46

Blimey-she is seriously trying it on! Have you got hold of anyone from
Ebay on the phone?
