CF eBay chancer: AIBU/WWYD?

First time poster.

I sold a Dyson airwrap last week as unused (which it is, it was an unneeded gift). Buyer messaged the day after purchase asking when it was arriving despite me providing delivery information. I paid almost £30 for delivery to cover its insurance. The package was lost over the weekend due to an admitted fault by Parcel force. Buyer emailing all weekend chasing despite me reassuring that I'd spent 2-3 hours on the phone/going to the post office to chase. It arrived today, one day after the estimated delivery time. She is now claiming the item is used. I asked for photos and they are not of my hair and not the condition the item was sent in. I know this but I can't prove it to eBay. She wants £100 refund and has sent a string of nasty messages all morning. I have acknowledged to her that I accept that she is unhappy with the whole experience but that I felt this was too high. Privately, I feel that she is seeking compensation for the late delivery or trying her luck but I have no way of demonstrating this to eBay. I am heavily pregnant and whilst I would Ordinarily be disputing this, I am considering relenting. AIBU/WWYD?

What her feed back like? She has probably done this before. Good luck!

Hippee · 04/06/2019 21:41

I sold a brand new with tags Boden jacket for a charity I help. The buyer had it dry-cleaned on arrival, then "discovered" it was not the size it was advertised at (I am sure it was). She wanted me to refund the jacket and the dry-cleaning cost! I told her to return it and I would refund the jacket only -never heard from her again.

I wouldn't give in to this person - it is ruining Ebay and I won't sell through them now.

Walkamileinmyshoesbeforeujudge · 04/06/2019 21:44

Stay strong op. Her madness will trip her up....

fedup21 · 04/06/2019 21:44

In her new case she now wants £225 refund and the item

OMG!!

hannonle · 04/06/2019 21:46

@Fluffycloudland77
This issue (collect in person) was on a consumer show a while back. A lady sold jewellery and it was collected in person. She had cctv showing it being handed over. But something happened - can't remember what but maybe a scam claim of item not received - and it ended up with ebay ruling against her and she lost her money and property.
Apparently collection in person is the worst way to sell and is the only one where you're not covered against stuff like this.
Anyway, I'd give it a quick Google if I were you because I fear you're not as covered as you think you are.

Itwasntme101 · 04/06/2019 21:49

Long shot but can you tell what colour or length the hairs are in the photos and are they different to your hair?

longtimelurkerhelen · 04/06/2019 21:52

How has she opened another case? You can only open one per transaction.

Even if you had to refund it would be one third of the rrp, not 50%, she is a chancer.

Screen shot all her messages and upload to paypal, then phone paypal and see what is happening their end.

Does she leave a lot of negative feedback?

I do think they will favour you as she has been abusive and her behaviour is inconsistent.

ZazuMoon · 04/06/2019 21:53

@foreverhanging and @fedup I know. I really thought she would just send the item back but no, she wants to keep it (even though it's disgusting, allegedly) and wants over half the value. I've just never encountered anyone like this before, even on eBay! I already have in writing from PayPal that she's only getting a refund if she returns so this should be interesting. I really don't know why she's continuing this for so long.

HundredMilesAnHour · 04/06/2019 21:55

She sounds batshit. I'm really hoping that Ebay/Paypal find in your favour Zazu. Hang in there.

ZazuMoon · 04/06/2019 21:57

She doesn't seem to leave a lot of feedback, presumably because she is appeased most of the time. She's changed the reason for the case so it's a 'new' dispute but I just checked and it has the same number.

It happened to me, was a brand new silk dress (unwanted gift). Buyer claimed the dress has dotted marks (I never noticed any), so I asked her to return it and I stupidly refunded all plus delivery straight away! Guess what, the dress never arrived. Never again. All my items has either been pickup only or non refundable ever since. Too many of these people out there. I don't even know how they live with themselves.

ShitAtScarbble · 04/06/2019 21:58

hannonle - collect in person is fine as long as you do not accept payment for the item by PayPal precisely because there is then no proof of delivery and there will always be a chancer who knows this and will try it on.
Cash on collection always - no exceptions.

ZazuMoon · 04/06/2019 22:00

@Itwasntme101 she pretended she couldn't upload photos and then when I said I wasn't prepared to discuss it further they suddenly appeared. Hairs are a different colour length and style to mine! I stated this twice and she ignored that part and kept demanding her partial refund.

fedup21 · 04/06/2019 22:02

Stop replying and say you’re letting ebay and PayPal sort it out now.

ZazuMoon · 04/06/2019 22:02

I don't know how they live with themselves either. I feel like I'm living in a parallel universe trying to deal with this when I know it's untrue but she is so adamant that I'm trying to rip her off.

OP posts:
potatochips84 · 04/06/2019 22:03

Would it be worth not replying to her anymore and saying that you are going to contact eBay with her messages and let them decide? It sounds like she is not reasonable and you have tried to settle this politely,

Let eBay/paypal decide it and just make them aware of any further messages?

She sounds awful!!!

sunshinefinally · 04/06/2019 22:04

Hope they side with you OP!

longtimelurkerhelen · 04/06/2019 22:07

Also upload your photos showing no hair. The brass neck of some people knows no bounds.

Don't reply to her anymore, there is no reasoning with crazy.

ZazuMoon · 04/06/2019 22:09

Thanks everyone. I stopped replying hours ago and she kept sending messages then left negative feedback and now has started a 'new' case with a different reason.

eBay is pretty wank when siding with the seller sadly although she’ll have to return for them to agree to a refund. Once you have the item back to you (if you ever get it back) you are able to open your own claim against the buyer to say that the item returned isn’t in the condition that you sold it for. Record yourself (or get someone to record for you) yourself opening it so you have proof of the condition it’s in on return to you.
My friend sold a purse (designer) on eBay and the person returned a fake and PayPal gave her the money back for how much she originally sold the purse for so hopefully something similar will be decided by PayPal for you

TheTrollFairy · 04/06/2019 22:12

When/if you open your own case make sure you upload the original description and where they buyer has confirmed using it

PatchworkElmer · 04/06/2019 22:17

Wow, the buyer is unhinged! Hope they find in your favour, OP.

DippyDepannage · 04/06/2019 22:22

I used to be a big ebay seller, but all the changes and so many CF buyers who try to rip sellers off I dont use it at all

I hope this is resolved in your favour op

Mummyoflittledragon · 04/06/2019 22:27

I hope you get this resolved. How do people live with themselves?

crazycatgal · 04/06/2019 22:28

I cba with ebay and all the CFs on there anymore. Before I learnt to get everything tracked I sold something with regular postage, the buyer opened a case saying that the item wasn't received after about 3 days. I rang the buyer who answered the phone normally, then when I mentioned that I was the ebay seller she pretended that she couldn't speak English and put the phone down. Arsehole. Ebay sided with her of course.
