CF eBay chancer: AIBU/WWYD?

ZazuMoon · 04/06/2019 13:05

First time poster.

I sold a Dyson airwrap last week as unused (which it is, it was an unneeded gift). Buyer messaged the day after purchase asking when it was arriving despite me providing delivery information. I paid almost £30 for delivery to cover its insurance. The package was lost over the weekend due to an admitted fault by Parcel force. Buyer emailing all weekend chasing despite me reassuring that I'd spent 2-3 hours on the phone/going to the post office to chase. It arrived today, one day after the estimated delivery time. She is now claiming the item is used. I asked for photos and they are not of my hair and not the condition the item was sent in. I know this but I can't prove it to eBay. She wants £100 refund and has sent a string of nasty messages all morning. I have acknowledged to her that I accept that she is unhappy with the whole experience but that I felt this was too high. Privately, I feel that she is seeking compensation for the late delivery or trying her luck but I have no way of demonstrating this to eBay. I am heavily pregnant and whilst I would Ordinarily be disputing this, I am considering relenting. AIBU/WWYD?

I ended up having to leave positive feedback but with a very negative comment to (hopefully) warn other sellers

Don't do this. It can be removed by eBay and you will get a warning about abusing feedback.

ZazuMoon Ignore the buyer's messages, just phone eBay and tell them about the barrage of messages trying to force a refund without returning. They can be incredibly helpful.

ZazuMoon · 04/06/2019 17:15

Have chatted on eBay chat and ebay admitted that the content was abusive and contradictory and referred to paypal. PayPal chat has added the information to the case so let's hope I can just get it resolved.

Can you see what her purchase history is on eBay? I don't think you can can you..it would be really good if you could!

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 04/06/2019 17:21

Hope you get sorted op, I don’t sell through eBay anymore as it’s not worth it. Once sold an old iPhone which had always had a glass screen protector and and a case on the back so was in really good condition apart from a few scuffs which I put on the description and in the photos. Buyer gets it and within a few days I get a message saying the screen was all scratched and the back was all covered in marks and he wasn’t happy as it was to be a present for his girlfriend..
I told him there is no way it could be marked as it was always well protected and all photos were in the listing but If he wasn’t happy to send back and I’d refund, never heard back - funny that.

I stick to Facebook marketplace, collect only now and have had no issues as the buyer can inspect there and then and as another poster said usually get them to sign something to say they are happy

ZazuMoon · 04/06/2019 17:32

I might try Facebook then, only I suspect there are chancers and freeloaders there aplenty. Will never use ebay for higher value items again though.

Sindragosan · 04/06/2019 17:36

There are chancers on Facebook too, and people who will deliberately waste your time who have no intention of actually picking anything up, but at least you can insist on cash on collection, and they can't get it back. Thankfully never had to sell high value items, smaller items don't seem to attract the CF brigade.

billionsofbeautifulhearts · 04/06/2019 17:47

Make sure you screen shot her messages because you maybe able to upload them as evidence if she opens a case against you.

If she opens a claim against you got to ebay chat, if you can stating 1. Why would she activate the warranty if she wasn't happy with the product because before you did that you would check it was in full working order first (because who would do that) 2. If she's activated it means no one has previously activated it because guess what it's unused! and 3. Now she's done that she cannot send it back in the condition you sent it because now it's used and she's claimed the warranty.

I sold some fancy technical kitchen scales along with some other things in one listing all working, she said she didn't have the parcel but someone at that house had signed for it she apologised, it was a mistake. She messaged me for help understanding the instructions and she admitted user error but had got them working correctly now, She left a positive feedback to say it arrived fine happy with the items.
Then emailed me 2 weeks later saying they were faulty, the glass top had come off and the buttons didn't work.
She opened a case for a full refund, (like yours £30 postage to get it back to me) or she would accept a partial refund 50% . She put in the case to Ebay she hadn't used the item because she went away come back to find they were sent faulty, So in my defence, I posted pictures of her positive feedback and posted up the messages between the two of us of her getting them working. I asked for a picture of what they looked like now, which ebay chat had recommended and within my rights to ask because we thought maybe she's dropped and smashed them, she failed to provide. I won the case but It was really horrible to deal with, she sent nasty messages to insisting on the partial refund.

It is sad there are loads out there who try it on, it's up there with I've not had it when you have the tracking to say it's been delivered to that house.

Jamiefraserskilt · 04/06/2019 17:52

Get her to return it. When received refund her and relist as collection only. She is a c.f. of the highest degree.

AnnieCat84 · 04/06/2019 18:57

I use eBay a lot and have had similar issues before.

Do not issue ANY money back to her until you've got the item back in your hands in the condition you sent it in. She's being a massive CF.

I'll buy it from you if you need a buyer! I've wanted one for ages! Grin

ZazuMoon · 04/06/2019 19:07

Thanks @AnnieCat84, I need to see what state it's returned in first as the buyer has admitted she's used it. So frustrating as it will reduce what I can sell it on for. But I'll keep you in mind.

OP posts:
EnglishRose13 · 04/06/2019 19:11

I want one too!

ZazuMoon · 04/06/2019 19:21

She has already left negative feedback stating that the item was covered in hair (false) and that I offered a partial refund (false). I feel she is trying to goad me into responding again. Any tips on how to get that feedback removed as the case is still open?

OP posts:
ShitAtScarbble · 04/06/2019 19:28

OP I’m sure I am not the only one who wishes you would PM me the user name of this horrible eBayer. I could do with updating my Blocked Bidder list Grin

Cherrysoup · 04/06/2019 19:28

Keep contacting eBay: you can phone them which is how I resolved a really idiotic buyer fucking around. They will remove the negative feedback and you can respond if they don’t do it quickly enough.

longtimelurkerhelen · 04/06/2019 19:31

Do another ebay chat and tell them your concerns, ask them to remove it as she has also been abusive. Don't call her a liar, just imply and say you are worried as you think it could be a scam.

I have always found them to be very helpful. Just be polite (I say please and thank you A LOT).

They might not remove it yet as there is a case open, but you never know.

If/when you resell any high value item, always take loads of photos, get the serial number and get them to pay cash on collection, get them to sign something to say they received in good working order nd as described.

Good luck

ILoveEurovision · 04/06/2019 19:46

How much did you sell it for out of curiosity @ZazuMoon?

ZazuMoon · 04/06/2019 19:55

@eurovision listed as buy it now slightly under retail price as it's been out of stock for a while and I covered £30 postage. So around £400. Added offers but buyer bought at the listed price. Buyer then wanted to pay £300 'as that is what second hand ones are going for.' Despite the fact that it wasn't second hand. 😐

OP posts:
longtimelurkerhelen · 04/06/2019 20:01

@ZazuMoon

Did you speak to ebay again?

zonkin · 04/06/2019 20:04

I had a similar experience with a buyer. She was really trying it on. I got quite wound up about it but followed the ebay procedures - and eBay sided with me. The buyer's try to provoke you into just letting it go as "it's not worth the hassle and negative feedback".

I wish the buyer had actually returned the item to me as it was selling for £30 more a few weeks later.

If eBay don't remove the negative feedback, you can respond saying that there is a case open and you won't comment until it's resolved

TheTrollFairy · 04/06/2019 20:07

Get the item back and list them next time as £30 postage. Do not give into the CF demands

TheTrollFairy · 04/06/2019 20:10

The thread has moved on which I stupidly didn’t read before posting. This teaches me for not reading but I was concerned that you were going to give her the £100

PotteryLady · 04/06/2019 20:40

How far away is she? Did you ask her why she had activated the warranty when she wasn't happy with the product.

Tell her you have someone who will pick it up and another buyer for it. See if that scares her off.

ZazuMoon · 04/06/2019 21:15

She has now opened a new case after she originally opened a case that the item hadn't been delivered at all. In her new case she now wants £225 refund and the item. 😲

@lurker Helen ebay won't remove the feedback until the case has been decided. Although they did confirm that she will now have to cover the return postage after admitting to using it- which is presumably where all the hair came from!

OP posts:
ZazuMoon · 04/06/2019 21:18

@potterylady she's hours from me location wise. I did state that she'd just admitted that the item was new as the warranty hadn't been activated and that she'd used it so found it acceptable and she said something along the lines of ' ha nice try you won't get away with this' but in a much longer message.

OP posts:
foreverhanging · 04/06/2019 21:35

She is crayyyy cray op
