I’m slightly hungover and a bit delicate so more sensitive than usual...

I’m just chilling out listening to a playlist, Travelin’ Soldier by Dixie Chicks came on and I am BAWLING.

What songs make you cry?

Tillygetsit · 02/06/2019 23:21

Oh and anything on David Bowie's last album Blackstar.

TakenForSlanted · 02/06/2019 23:25

Because of You by Kelly Clarkson

Not my usual taste in music - but the lyrics really get to me. I'm planning on singing it at my crazy dad's funeral.

TheFastandCurious · 02/06/2019 23:29

‘ You took my life with you’ from the musical Ghost.

It’s one of Simon Cowel’s favourite songs so I’m with the experts on this one Wink

Pretty much every song ever recorded gets me tearful, but just lately it's been Come On by Will Young.
It's a combination of the video, lyrics, and his voice, but it just reminds me of my best friend who has really pushed me to do something I was too scared to do, and couldn't have done without their endless help & support.
When I finally did it, I just had this image in my head of them saying 'come on, come on, come on' and encouraging me every step of the way, for years, as I completely, repeatedly fucked up. But they didn't give up.

LaLaLamp · 02/06/2019 23:49

Also There You'll Be by Faith Hill which was played at my Grandads funeral
One Sweet Day by Boys II Men and Mariah Carey, played at my brothers funeral, he was 31 when he died of Sudden Adult Death, he spent some time as a DJ so sometimes I hear a song such as Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now which he would play a lot and that makes me feel sad

‘Father and son’ by Peter Gabriel. Reminds me of how I felt about my Dad as a small boy and then when I was growing up. “With my Dad by my side, I could turn back the tide”. Oh crikey - I’m welling up just typing that. Miss you , Dad, you old bugger.

Namestheyareachangin · 03/06/2019 10:24

SO MANY SONGS.

The one I actually can't listen to now is called "Good Intentions" by Huw and Tony Williams, but no-one's ever heard of it or them so I'm usually safe. Played it at my mum's funeral and bawled. The chorus goes

"And I know you tried, you did it all somehow, but you can let go now."

Oh dear :'(

Namestheyareachangin · 03/06/2019 10:27

Also:

Wasted Time by the Eagles (and the instrumental reprise)
Older Chests by Damien Rice
Because of You by Kelly Clarkson
I Shall Be Released by The Band
Helpless by Neil Young
How To Save A Life by Snow Patrol
Goodbye England by Laura Marling...

I could go on and on!

SpamChaudFroid · 03/06/2019 10:43

George Michael - Different Corner. Chris Martin's version made me laugh like a loon though.

Lana Del Rey - Summertime Sadness. Top tip - if you want to ruin a song, use it for your DH's funeral. I daren't listen to it now, even 3 and a half years later.

Athlete - Wires, I don't even have DCs!
