I’m slightly hungover and a bit delicate so more sensitive than usual...

I’m just chilling out listening to a playlist, Travelin’ Soldier by Dixie Chicks came on and I am BAWLING.

What songs make you cry?

Take Good Care of my Baby

CarolDanvers · 02/06/2019 14:00

@sobercuriouskind I cried in the car just the other day listening to it. It's beautiful. The album that it comes from is mostly great as well - "Short Sharp Shocked".

dreamyspires · 02/06/2019 14:01

One more try...George Michael. That voice gives me goosebumps.

Orbison · 02/06/2019 14:06

The music played - Matt Monroe
It's just so relatable.

Jemineye · 02/06/2019 14:09

Fields of Barley - Eva Cassidy and

Nothing Compares 2U - can't watch the video with Sinead singing as I know she cried in it thinking about her mum who died when she was 17. My mum told me when I was little that the song makes her cry because she too lost her mum very young so now I cry! 😢

Running up that hill by Kate Bush.

" And if I only could
I'd make a deal with God
And I'd get him to swap our places
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
Be running up that building
See if I only could, oh ".

It was playing on the radio whilst driving home from the hospital. I had stayed in hospital for a week while my baby was in SCBU, so It was the first time I had left her side since she had been born and It brought me to pieces. I would have done anything to swap places with her and to take the pain away from her little body.

The song makes me cry everytime I hear it.

Jemineye · 02/06/2019 14:10

Oh and Bright Eyes - Art Garfunkel.. Bloody rabbits!

jay55 · 02/06/2019 14:11

Nocturns from Love story the musical.

Kate Bush has a song on most of her albums that makes me cry. Moments of Pleasure makes me bawl.

Torvi · 02/06/2019 14:13

Lost Without You by Freya Ridings is utterly beautiful

Protection by Massive Attack/Tracey Thorn

I'd struggle to listen to either one of those in company

CaptainCabinets · 02/06/2019 14:21

Hero Of War by Rise Against also makes my chin wobble Sad

Thank you. It's amazing how strong they can be. She was much stronger than I was Grin. She's now a very active and independent toddler without a care in the world.

It's beautiful how much help and strength music can provide.

ChristinaMarlowe · 02/06/2019 14:23

Jimmy Newman by Tom Paxton. Every time without fail.

ChristinaMarlowe · 02/06/2019 14:27

Also absolutely anything sung by children, don't know when or why that started but now I cringe in school assemblies (not ideal working in a school!) as I know I'll cry if they sing. Even worse in my daughter's C of E primary school when they sing hymns, all the little voices. Real sniffle fest!

Orbison · 02/06/2019 14:33

Always on my mind - Willie Nelson.

hellomellowyellow87 · 02/06/2019 14:38

Everybody’s talkin’ by Harry Nilsson
It’s not a sad song but it just gets me!

TheRealShatParp · 02/06/2019 14:39

Black - Pearl Jam

Raffles1981 · 02/06/2019 14:45

Million Reasons by Gaga. Heard it first when pregnant and my DS kicked. Listened to the song over and over. Just makes me bawl now. The whole album is lovely.

redwoodmazza · 02/06/2019 14:53

Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty. Makes me think about what might have been...

Incidentally, he died in the same hospital that my DF had died in two weeks earlier. Sad

WillowUfgood · 02/06/2019 14:53

Into the West by Annie Lennox and One More Light by Linkin Park, the latter hits very close to home.

DoneLikeAKipper · 02/06/2019 14:55

I make the humongous mistake of listening to Small Bump by Ed Sheeran not long after suffering a miscarriage. Absolutely heartbreaking song.

To Where You Are (first saw Josh Groban sing it on Ally McBeal, and I’ve cried every time I’ve heard it since Blush).

You’ll Never Walk Alone always gets me as well. I watched a clip of fans and players singing it after last night’s match and it nearly set me off, I’m not even a Liverpool fan!

SilentSister · 02/06/2019 15:05

Fields of Gold - Used to love this song, but recently been used by a couple of dear friends at their funerals. Can't listen to it now at all.

Lots of opera makes me cry perhaps because my dad died shortly after the famous Three Tenors concert, but there is something about an opera song.

Cried the other day listening to "Superboy and the Invisible Girl" from the musical "Next to Normal". DD told me the story behind it, and now it kills me every time.

OutInTheCountry · 02/06/2019 15:12

Excellent question!
Father Figure - George Michael
You'll Never Walk Alone (Gran's funeral)
The Seekers - I'll Never Find Another You (aunt's funeral)
In My Life - The Beatles
Holding Back The Years - Simply Red
Imagine - John Lennon
John Cash - I Hurt Myself, just breaks my heart
The song from Toy Story about the cowgirl
Somewhere Over The Rainbow
I was recently driving through the countryside listening to Desert Island Discs (archive) and some-one picked Let's Do It by Victoria Wood. I burst into tears and had to pull over, it was such a beautiful day and view and I was just so sad that she wasn't around any more.

I won't go on, but I could, the older I get the longer the list.....

OutInTheCountry · 02/06/2019 15:19

@ChristinaMarlowe - I completely agree, I'm pathetic at school assemblies, nativity plays, carol concerts etc.

If you ever fancy a really good cry there's an album called the Langley School Project recorded in the 70s, just google their version of Desperado.
