Is this a bit excessive?

This is petty and lighthearted before anyone wades in.

DH thinks IABU but when DS and I are here alone all week we probably use 4 pints of milk in the weekdays (1 big container).

DS is away and DH is here with his 2 teenage DC.

DH and I have 1 cup of coffee in the morning, thats it. His DC have unlimited cups of tea and we are getting through 4 pints of milk a day. IMHO this is excessive and a bit ridiculous.

Am 1?

I can't imagine as a teen being begrudged plentiful cups of tea, even with milk and sugar in them by my parents. Please OP, let this go, it is not a reasonable battle to fight. If you personally really begrudge the extra £2 or so, then please ask your DH to buy the extra provisions. Ask the teens to let you know when the bottle is less than half full, so you or DH can make arrangements to buy another or pull a bottle out of the freezer. Drinking tea is not a crime!

Iamnotagoddess · 05/06/2019 22:13

4 pints of milk a day on two teenagers tea is not plentiful it’s ridiculous and the sugar is outrageous.

To me is shows lack of ability to regulate themselves and judge what is reasonable.

But because they are my step-children I should let them do whatever they want without question Smile

It’s taking the piss IMO and a bit silly and the reason I noticed the sugar was because on Monday morning I noticed there was caster sugar in the sugar container as the normal granulated had all be used.

Iamnotagoddess ,you need to do this.
I also have a stepson who is very capable of using up the last of milk/bread/cereal etc. Fortunately he is old enough to send to the shop.

Is this a bit excessive?
Iamnotagoddess · 05/06/2019 22:28

@Catzpyjamas

😂😂😂 great idea

What pen do you use to write on a milk carton?

We have to at work and it’s a nightmare Grin

Sharpie?? I didn't do the one in the photo. I saw it on FB a couple of days ago and saved it to send to DSS Grin

Iamnotagoddess · 05/06/2019 22:52

Hmm expensive 😂😂

We use whiteboard markers but they are crap Grin

I just wish my kids wouldn't replace the empty cartons of stuff in the fridge when they finish them. OH too 😂

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 05/06/2019 23:05

I get you OP. If only there were places you could go to where milk and sugar were available, even in exchange for money. Then you would be able to purchase enough to meet your family's needs. Alas, this is not the case.

Iamnotagoddess · 05/06/2019 23:08

It’s not about that.

It’s about not using anything excessively and exercising restraint. There is absolutely no need to drink so much tea that you are caning 4 pints a day between two of you and 1kg of sugar over 4.5 days.

OP posts:
BumandChips · 05/06/2019 23:10

Sounds like they need to learn to make a decent cup of tea...

Iamnotagoddess · 05/06/2019 23:10

I would not have allowed my own children to behave like that.

OP I’m laughing at your post about ‘wading in’’ - you know the MN crew well ha ha.

That’s ridiculous every day. Bloody hell they must be Ewing like a race horse

VladmirsPoutine · 05/06/2019 23:10

Is everyone bathing in milk? Grin

My only issue is not replacing things and indeed eating everything in the kitchen with no regard for others. Other than that I couldn't begrudge someone a cup of tea, or 10 cups if their heart desired!

Iamnotagoddess · 05/06/2019 23:10

@BumandChips

Yes 😂

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 05/06/2019 23:11

I don't really know what you can do about that. Tea drinkers are renowned for their wild excessive lifestyles. It literally rips families apart.

Have you considered rehab?

Iamnotagoddess · 05/06/2019 23:13

Anyone who would be happy with their child consuming that much sugar seriously needs to question their boundaries IMHO.

/nods

One day it's milk and sugar. The next it's more milk and more sugar.

OrchidInTheSun · 05/06/2019 23:17

I'm in shock at the poster who drinks 16 pints a day. Shock

thegreatcrestednewt · 05/06/2019 23:33

@Tor8181 - *we go through 24 pints a day, every day,thats 6 4 pinters

i NEED/USE milk as medicine as i have bad GERD and drink 16 pints(more on a bad day)as milk neutralizes the acid and stops it coming back up

then the 8 y old goes through a 4 pinter just for him(lots of milkshakes and cereals)*

Wtf??? You drink 16 pints of milk per day? 7 litres?

Your 8yo goes through 4 pints of milk per day?

Bonkers. Don’t believe you.

Iamnotagoddess · 05/06/2019 23:35

In think if I had posted it was my own children rather than as a step parent I would have had different replies.

I agree with the poster who advised the milk app thingy. Our milkman delivers 3 days a week. If we run out we can order more! But I have two girls and they are not as big into milk drinking as teenage boys can be! Just curious as I'm not in the UK, is it a pint carton or two pint carton or is it pint milk bottles the milk comes in? We have 1 litre, 2 litre or 3 litre cartons/plastic bottles. A 500mls carton would be the smallest size available (near enough to a pint size).

GetOffTheTableMabel · 05/06/2019 23:39

Decant some into a jug and hide it at the back of the fridge
