I just can't get enough of him and it genuinely makes my heart so sad to think about what he went through, and how he did it so graciously.

I was only mid teens when he died and the older I've got the more I feel this sense of being in complete awe of him.

I think a lot of today's music is just pure shite!

Anyone else?

Nope, don’t get it
I appreciate that others love him but I don’t
I don’t like his music or his voice
I would put bohemian rhapsody at number one of the worst records ever made
Over rated

WhiteDust · 02/06/2019 10:32

Isabella
Yes, they do adore him don't they?
He was loved.

Lepetitpiggy · 02/06/2019 10:36

My 13 year old dd reluctantly sat down with us to watch Bohemian Rhapsody and is now completely obsessed with Freddie and Queen - She plays the music constantly and is trying to learn the songs on the piano. I am pretty amazed as it is all so far from the usual 13 year old girl music.

wichitalinemanswoman · 02/06/2019 10:37

He is spell binding to watch, just amazing

wichitalinemanswoman · 02/06/2019 10:38

And his love of cats warms my heart, what a truly loving soul he was

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/06/2019 10:42

Loved some Queen songs, although not a fan.

Freddie was a musical genius though. This is my favourite

Hollowvictory · 02/06/2019 10:42

Saw him live was excellent.
4 octave range
Charisma
Great songs

LittleAndOften · 02/06/2019 10:44

The resurgence of interest in Freddie and Elton has really brought back into sharp focus exactly why they were/are world superstars. Aside from personal charisma, performance quality etc, the sheer quality and complexity of their music is stunning. The richness of harmonies, virtuosity of playing and singing, soaring melodies, complexity of song structure. And so ground-breaking and experimental as artists. I just don't see anything to match that on the current music scene. Too many musicians rely on "riff and repeat" without any real development in the song.

The most interesting musicians to me right now are people like Mark Ronson who seems to have endless depths to his creativity. But he's not a showman, so can't really match Freddie in that respect.

ControversialFerret · 02/06/2019 10:51

Love his voice. His duet with Monserrat Caballe on 'Barcelona' was wonderful.

TiredSloth · 02/06/2019 11:05

My dm took me on my 16th birthday (2001) to see a Queen tribute band and I was hooked. I became obsessed with listening to them constantly and watching any footage of them (performances and interviews) that I could find. I was in absolute awe of FM and was very very sad for a long time that I would never be able to watch him live.

In my opinion he is the most talented showman that has ever been and probably will ever be. And yes I still get sad that he passed too soon.

Insancerre I understand you’re not a fan, but are you able to see that technically he had an amazing voice? His range and tone were unparalleled.

ShmooBooMoo · 02/06/2019 11:06

He did own the stage and could sing a beautiful ballad as well belt out a rock song. Agree with others about Live Aid - truly mesmerizing! However, my absolute favourite FM song of all time is a winter (so I think, Christmas) song. It is so gloriously beautiful and I'm always sad I never seem to hear it played at that special time of year. Of course, I always play my own copy and seek it out on YT cos I like the video too, love Freddie's wink at the start...very typical of him. Here if anyone wants to take a look:

ShmooBooMoo · 02/06/2019 11:07

Sorry, it's called A Winter's Tale ^

romany4 · 02/06/2019 11:19

Because he is God. That is all..

Queen fan since I was 11 and I'm 47 now. I adore him

Ffsnosexallowed · 02/06/2019 11:21

Dd is obsessed. And whilst I agree some of Queens stuff is magical, some of it is utter utter shit.

shalalalalalala · 02/06/2019 12:33

Ahhhhh I just love him. Yeah there definitely was some shite in there and they would never deny that. But the good far outweighs the bad.

NymphInYellow · 02/06/2019 13:01

Singer, songwriter, showman, lover of cats and wearer of leotards. What's not to love? There will never be another like Freddie 💔

howwudufeel · 02/06/2019 13:04

Charisma and talent personified. One of my dc is completely obsessed with him. A lot of people in the film industry slated Brian May for wanting to keep the sex out of Bohemian Rhapsody but the result has been that Queen have been introduced to a new generation. I think it was a genius move.

tomtom1999xx · 02/06/2019 13:12

I’m with you op.
Although I much preferred Queens early stuff, I thought they went a bit naff in the 80’s.

And it’s so very sad that he died of an illness that is easily managed today, just wrong time for him. Sad

FreshAprilStart · 02/06/2019 13:18

He had such charisma and a powerful voice.

He wasn't a saint though. Queen did play apartheid South Africa.

A very talented and interesting man.

SaigonSaigon · 02/06/2019 13:20

I was never a huge fan but since watching Bohemian Rhapsody I've got a slight crush on FM! Such charisma and presence. Just an amazing talent. So sad he died in the way he did, when he did.

Duster12 · 02/06/2019 13:23

I think he was so handsome. Incredible bone structure, and so masculine in the way he moved onstage. The body on him 💪😍

Moorcroft · 02/06/2019 13:23

I was lucky enough to see him live at a small venue in the 70s. He oozed charisma and sex appeal. The whole set was brilliant

Wrongdissection · 02/06/2019 13:25

I bloody love Freddie. Favourite Queen song is Hammer to Fall. They did a lot of guff too but what they did well they did brilliantly!

scaryteacher · 02/06/2019 13:25

I've been lostening to Queen since Bohemian Rhapsody came out, and I'm now 53. Ds (23) grew up listening to them as well.

My favourites are Teo Torriate, You Take My Breath Away, and Las Palabras di Amor.

PookieDo · 02/06/2019 13:28

Something about his voice makes me physically react, hair tingles and I really feel the depths of his feelings when he sings. That’s why he is special

I cried when he died and also Kenny Everett who I adored Blush
Kenny’s BeeGee routine was downright the funniest thing I’ve ever watched
