Air conditioner

One of our rooms gets unbearably hot in the summer and it becomes unusable. It is flat roofed with no real insulation.

I've bought a small mobile air conditioner.

Dp has gone mad about the electric bill.

I've looked it up and it's 2kw so not cheap to run.

He wants to send it back, I don't.

I think a few hours a day in the summer means we have a useable room. We can afford the additional electric snd have said I will fund the additional electric myself if he's so concerned.

Not unreasonable, but maybe have a look into getting the roof re-covered with a better insulating surface? Or even just painting it white to reflect more of the heat like they do abroad?

Not really a whole lot different from heating it in the winter! Does your darling partner get his knickers in a twist when the house becomes uninhabitably cold and you put the heating on?

I suppose if it's just the two of you and you have a 4 bed house then it might be a bit U, but otherwise I reckon it's absolutely fine. You don't need to leave it on constantly anyway, just so the room is pleasant.

More info needed.
On the face of it, not reasonable of you.
But just because something is affordable doesn’t mean it isn’t a waste of money.
Just how much did it add to your electric bill?
Have you argued over other costs so this is more the straw that broke the camel’s back?
