To think my ‘No Cold Calling’ sign covers religious groups and charities too

Just that really. I have a large, unmistakable sticker on my door saying no cold calling.

For some reason, countless charities and religious groups (well group, jehovah's witness) ignore this/seem to think it doesn’t apply to them and proceed to ring my doorbell. Usually 2/3 a week.

Angry

AIBU to think these are types of cold calling?

Course they are, those people just think they are special. Infuriatingly rude.

SarahAndQuack · 01/06/2019 11:19

Of course they are.

I don't know how you would enforce a 'no cold calling' sign, though. Does it have any actual legal meaning?

If they're doing it every few days I'd be getting really fed up and would be tempted to tell them to fuck off, or just point to the sign silently and slam the door.

Kaddm · 01/06/2019 11:27

Make it say:
No cold callers
No religious groups
No charities
Even though I would say religious groups and charities are indeed cold callers.

Kaddm · 01/06/2019 11:27

Put an additional sign right by the actual doorbell

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 01/06/2019 11:28

Absolutely applies to them.

I got one from Amazon which included no canvassers...

EugenesAxe · 01/06/2019 11:29

Yes they are covered. When I collected Christian Aid I had to look out for these stickers and not call.

GarthFunkel · 01/06/2019 11:31

I got one from ebay that says 'No religious callers, no politicians, no chuggers, no charity bags, no junk mail, no trick or treaters. We do not buy at the door.' if any one thinks it doesn't apply to them, I just point to it and shut the door. It does work - I can see people walk up and then away without ringing the bell.

You can get ones that have all sorts of people you won't entertain Grin - even personalised ones.

ScreamingValenta · 01/06/2019 11:34

You could put any wording on a sign, but if people want to ignore it, they will.

This is a nice one, maybe the seller could also add ‘
‘no special people who think they don’t fall in to the above categories’Grin

Michelleoftheresistance · 01/06/2019 11:37

I got one of these stickers as was being bothered constantly, often several times a night, by double glazing and chuggers. (And am disabled, so is often v painful and difficult to get up and answer the door in the evening when tired.)

The double glazing and chuggers both insist they are not selling anything and knock anyway. The local JW group have respected it from day one. Not that I minded them as our local group are lovely and call only every couple of months, I really do see your point that you local group sound nothing like so lovely!

Sadly the notice has also deterred political canvassers, which is a shame as at the moment I would dearly love to explain in detail why most of the parties will not be getting my vote.

Spoolie · 01/06/2019 11:57

It should do yes! They just think it doesn’t apply to them Angry

I work night shifts and often have a sign up on my door asking people not to knock because it disturbs me and I can never get back to sleep. Usually once a month I still get Jehovah’s Witnesses knocking despite the massive sign asking them not too. 😩

Passthecherrycoke · 01/06/2019 11:59

Of course it’s supposed to include them, but it’s just a sign, they can ignore it if they like. I would get their office details and phone them and tell them never to come back

PregnantSea · 01/06/2019 14:19

None of those groups of people would pay any attention to that sign. It's pointless having it at all, regardless of who it lists.

I agree they are annoying though Angry
