...to be in love with my new iPad?

God, haven't bought myself anything in years. Found a great deal and really need an extra screen for work. It came yesterday and I'm in love! Everything's so big compared to a little phone. Mumsnet is so much better on here. My eyes are thanking me Grin

I know most people have had iPads for years. Anybody have any good apps or tips or anything?

I love my ipad too
What sort of apps did you want? Games?

MidsomerBurgers · 01/06/2019 10:26

Get 'The Room'. It's a beautiful game that looks amazing on an ipad. There are three altogether if you like it.

Redcrayons · 01/06/2019 10:26

In a house fire mine is in my top 5 list Grin
I prefer the MN mobile site to the app though.

H2OH20Everywhere · 01/06/2019 10:27

Where did you find the deal?

noblegiraffe · 01/06/2019 10:27

Get a case with a keyboard for it, one that folds back and props it up. So much better for browsing than staring down at your lap and way better for posting on MN.

Get a chrome cast for chucking videos that you’re watching onto the TV. Much easier to browse Netflix on your iPad.

Assume you have an iPhone?

Shoxfordian · 01/06/2019 10:34

Yes, the room is really good
Looks amazing on the ipad too

butterflykiss00 · 01/06/2019 10:46

Me too! I got the air3 iPad and it's amazing

Any apps really. Games would be good - I'll try the one suggested. Was thinking of getting the kindle app? Any games for 4yos would be good too, though I'm sure I'll regret introducing it to her - won't get a look in Grin we downloaded a funny one yesterday where you cook for monsters and she was literally crying with laughter.

The deal was on Sky, tenner a month for (I think) 2 years, which is interest free. Then 6pcm on top for internet. I got cashback too through topcashback of I think £35ish. Just given up smoking so rewarding myself for that as it's been super tough!

I've got an iPhone, yes. Have been looking into the chromecast - does it also allow you to show photos/ videos on the tv? My DD is obsessed with watching videos of herself and our family ConfusedGrin

Oh yes, and I've found a lovely stand up case with detachable keyboard on Amazon with really good reviews.

Does anybody use it for work much? I've read that it functions well with word, excel etc? My laptop is so old and slow and turns straight off if unplugged from the charger. Am hoping really to use the iPad as my main computer when working from home if possible but will have to get used to flicking between apps etc when doing research.

Compared to phones, tablets are very good value for money. I got a Huawei effectively in new condition for refurbished price of £113. (Assume it was a customer return, everything including the box it came in were indistinguishable from new.) The standard new price was only £139 the last time I looked.

I did look at used ipads, but even the oldest model that would have suited my needs, a 2015 model, would have cost more.

I do feel a bit flash I must say Grin but I'm now saving probably £250 a month by giving up smoking and it was the one luxury I had and it's bloody hard! So I thought I would treat myself Smile also I definitely can't afford it if I start smoking again, so extra motivation. Same reason I booked us a holiday to Disney in December which I need to pay off each month. Much better things to spend my money on than stinky cigs (that's what I keep telling myself anyway)!

I've downloaded a game called shoot n merge if anybody needs a not too taxing game, it's pretty addictive!

Giving up the fags is a massive achievement, you deserve to treat yourself.

wont get a look in
I haven't told my DCs the number lock for mine so only ever use the fingerprint to open it. Otherwise I would never see it.
