I’m sure I am bu, but I’m so frustrated. We’re buying a new house, it’s a show home on a largish estate in the village we’re currently in and don’t want to leave. We’re super privileged to be able to buy it and I get that, but the builders are being so difficult.
We’re part exchanging our ex council terrace, they have offered us well below market value for it and we’re paying asking price for the new house, it’s not outrageous but certainly not a bargain. We’re doing this because there aren’t any other suitable houses on the market in our village and we can move in July. It’s much bigger and hopefully we’ll be happy there.
The builders are keeping money back from us to cover any damage found to our current house after we move. They are saying they will deal with snags in the new hi but also saying it’s sold as seen. They’ve sealed the windows after they’ve wallpapered the living room in an awful diamanté embossed wallpaper. They are refusing to see this as an issue (who seals windows after wallpaper?) and say that’s standard practice. They are refusing to state what constitutes snags or clearly define ‘sold as seen’. They are just generally being difficult. On the part ex they are demanding we pay indemnity insurance for an unadopted access path (none of the roads on the new estate will be adopted) our solicitors seem fairly useless, I’m regretting the whole thing.
I am being unreasonable, I knew dealing with a developer would be a nightmare. Just feels like they get every demand, every certificate has been produced, we’ve serviced the boiler, we’re liable for any defect they uncover when we leave and yet we are completely having to trust them that the house will be fine and they’ll make good anything we find amiss, or not..
