To be completely confused by Ryanair family booking?

Booking to go on holidays this summer, with DD and DS (3 and 1).

Ryanair is offering me a Family Plus booking option. I’m probably being dense but having trouble seeing if it’s worth it. You get masses of luggage and apparently a ‘free’ child seat (but that means allocation, presumably). But does it get over the difficulty of Ryanair sitting your kids miles away from you?

Any advice?

Don't they require you to pay for the adult seat in any case but then they automatically put the DC near you?

Whether or not family plus would be worth it would depend on whether you need the luggage allowance?

family holiday for a week or more yes to the luggage, weekend in Dublin, perhaps not. You probably need to work out how much the family plus option costs compared with booking the combination of seats and luggage that you actually need, which is often not easy with Ryanair.

Remember that if you don't book priority your cabin allowance is a very small bag.

You will be seated together if you book seats. Do you need masses of luggage? That’s what would make the difference.

I’m flying with dd next week. We are sitting together because we’ve paid to, but have no additional baggage. You only get one small bag (laptop case or changing bag size that goes under the seat in front of you) unless you pay for more.

It doesn't matter whether you get the Family Plus or normal booking, child seat allocations are always free but they do make you pay for the adult seat allocation.

You can't get a non-allocated seat with children any more, this is to avoid the issue of them being seated miles away (as if you choose non-allocated seats with only adults, they deliberately split you up). But is a bit of a con that they say it's free IMO since they force you to pay for the adult's seat allocation.

The point of getting the Family Plus is if it saves you money on baggage. What do you need to take?

Thanks everyone. I did what Barbara suggested and slightly tortuously worked out the price for each option, and with luggage, family plus worked out best.
