To use only eggs to make omelettes?

MummyStruggles · 30/05/2019 18:04

I don't mean fillings but ingredients to make the actual omelette.

I just use eggs.

DD says her Dad puts water in the mix, prior to cooking. Also, Grandma uses milk?

I've never heard this, anyone else? Am I just some kind of a freak?

I add a little milk, salt and pepper.

HilaryBriss · 30/05/2019 18:05

I usually put a splash of milk in, never heard of using water though.

humblesims · 30/05/2019 18:06

I always add a splash of water. But never milk.

Fatted · 30/05/2019 18:06

Nope. I only use eggs. DH uses milk as well and then wonders why they always stick to the pan and burn.

HilaryBriss · 30/05/2019 18:06

Oh yeah, forgot the salt and pepper!

Frenchfancy · 30/05/2019 18:06

No you are not a freak, you are normal (but some salt and pepper wouldn't go amiss.)

ProfYaffle · 30/05/2019 18:06

I just use eggs. No water or milk

Celebelly · 30/05/2019 18:06

I use a dash of milk for scrambled eggs but not for omelettes. But I always make cheese omelettes so get my dairy fix from that! Never heard of water!

HP07 · 30/05/2019 18:07

I thought if you add milk you are making scrambled egg? Yeah I just use eggs too and then the cheese/ham or whatever else.

StoatofDisarray · 30/05/2019 18:14

I only use eggs, salt and pepper. Ditto for scrambled eggs. I have no idea why people think they need butter, water, milk or anything else in them. I got into an argument about it once with a friend, but her parents run a hotel and that was how she was taught to make omelettes and scrambled eggs so that they would last a long time when they were on a buffet.

bridgetreilly · 30/05/2019 18:17

If you add milk, you get scrambled eggs, not an omelette. I can't think why you would add water at all.

caughtinanet · 30/05/2019 18:18

Don't you just make them the way you prefer them to taste?

There are no omlette making laws, does it matter if other people do it differently?

FromDespairToHere · 30/05/2019 18:19

I use milk. It doesn't burn and it doesn't make scrambled eggs unless you scramble it! It just makes the omelette mix go a bit further.

Amibeingdaft81 · 30/05/2019 18:19

The adding milk and water stemmed from years ago - trying to make everything last longer and get more from it.

Nearlythere1 · 30/05/2019 18:20

Chinese and japanese omlettes add a splash of water and that's how I do mine now, because I like it, though I used to use just egg.

HardAsSnails · 30/05/2019 18:20

Just eggs, salt and pepper for omelettes ana scrambled eggs.

MuddyMoose · 30/05/2019 18:22

I use just egg. No added milk or water.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 30/05/2019 18:22

Eggs, seasoned.... that’s all that is needed!

Fillings are fine but definitely no milk or water (water! 😲)

I do add a sploosh of milk for scrambled eggs though....

CustardySergeant · 30/05/2019 18:25

I use just eggs and seasoning for both omelettes and scrambled eggs.

APurpleSquirrel · 30/05/2019 18:27

Just eggs & seasoning for both - can't stand wet egg Confused

Seren85 · 30/05/2019 18:27

Just eggs for omlettes and a bit of butter melted in milk before adding eggs for scrambling. Salt and pepper in both obvs.

Floralnomad · 30/05/2019 18:29

Just eggs and seasoning for omelettes .

Usuallyinthemiddle · 30/05/2019 18:30

It's not unusual but I don't do it.

I do, however, like butter or cream in scrambled because I like the taste and texture. Each to their own.

But season it. That is non negotiable! Smile

WoollyMollyMonkey · 30/05/2019 18:33

Splash of water for an omelette and a splash of milk for scrambled eggs here!

WoollyMollyMonkey · 30/05/2019 18:34

PS both cooked in a knob of melted butter.
