Distance / Travelling time if weekly boarding.

Just wondered what people think is a reasonable distance / time travelling between school and home on a weekly basis. I've seen a school which - on paper - ticks all our boxes for DD (SEN). It has a fantastic reputation and from an initial view of her paperwork, says it can meet her needs - but it's 180 miles away and only weekly residential. There's actually nothing closer ( two nearer ones said they couldn't meet her needs) but there is another one which is full boarding the same distance away which isn't quite such a good fit. Thinking also that if she can home alternate weekends, we could travel up there the other weekends, possibly. Am I being unreasonable to even consider it?

No, you’re not being unreasonable. If it’s the right school for her, where she’d be happiest, best looked after and most fulfilled, then go for it. As you say, you can do alternate weekends, and long car journeys to and from the school could be a good time for you to bond, have some laughs, catch up on audio books etc...

That is quite a way but sounds like there isn't a closer option. Tbh, I'd probably go with it and then work on logistics given the other options.
