For the third day running he's pushing the buttons on his musical books to give a near constant soundtrack of We Wish You A Merry Christmas, Jingle Bells, The Wheels On The Bus and Stompy the Dinosaur. Occasionally all 4 together with a slight offset, pretty much constantly We Wish You A Merry Christmas. On occasion a sheep, pig, cow or tractor joins in from another book. I've been waiting for him to get bored, but no signs. I've put out nearly every other toy but he just plays with them while hitting soundtrack buttons.

So as not to drip feed - he's 14 months old, teething with molars and poorly.

Probably beats the constant Ariana Grande in our house to be fair!
Cherish these times, it only gets worseGrin

MRex · 29/05/2019 14:03

I can only sympathise and wish you a merry Christmas @BillywilliamV.

You may have an avant-garde composer on your hands, OP. Mine used to set his three different toy keyboards going with different drum patterns, all at the same time, then sit with his toy cash register, intermittently hitting the button that made it go 'Ding!' Mummy's little Stockhausen...

kierenthecommunity · 29/05/2019 14:08

I once hid a plastic toy train that played plastic records that my mother got from a charity shop. It was so high pitched it literally made me want to cry Confused

Looking back admittedly the post adoption depression may have contributed to this overreaction

Ffsnosexallowed · 29/05/2019 14:10

Oh how I dream of those days. My 15 year old HSC just become obsessed with Hatari. Yes, that's right, the Icelandic Eurovision group..... Turns out they have more than one song. They all sound very similar.

greenwaterbottle · 29/05/2019 14:20

I once (accidentally) drowned some ducks that quacked every time you pulled the string. I took them for a walk through a paddling pool as it was hot...

Then I upped my game and found that if you put sellotape over the 'speakers' it really dulled the sound!

Walkamileinmyshoesbeforeujudge · 29/05/2019 14:21

We have a house rule.
Any noisey toys never get batteries replaced!!

Xmas2020 · 29/05/2019 14:28

Oh no it get worse the older they get, i have to listen to Happier by Marshmellow constantly 😧

BeckyAnnLeeman · 29/05/2019 14:29

Well seeing as it's Christmas why don't you console yourself with an afternoon glass of wine and some Quality Street dipped in baked camembert. It's the festive thing to so.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 29/05/2019 14:31

I think I'd prefer it to what is currently coming out of teen DDs room .... some rapper singing about "she can't get enough of my meat" Shock

needsleepzzz · 29/05/2019 14:32

My mum bought my daughter a load of signing nursery rhyme books, daughter would then press all of them one after another, thought the novelty would wear off but it didn't, i hid them. Thankfully she hasn't noticed.
farmyard noise books are next on the 'to hide' list....

Dillyson · 29/05/2019 14:33

I'll swap my 16yr old for your little one, please???

I'm so fed up with thumping foul mouthed rappers seeping through the floorboards.

Fraxion · 29/05/2019 14:46

You have my sympathy. I would be cruel, distract him with something else and hide it. My daughter had an 'animal' piano, the keys sounded like woofs, oinks etc depending on which animal you chose. It had one setting - extremely loud. She loved it. I bundled it off to the church jumble sale when she was at granny's one day. I am going to hell 😂

Nameisthegame · 29/05/2019 14:48

I wish my lo 22 months would mess with the song books more she’s obsessed with me reading to her and if I refuse she throws the book at me...same book over and over...and over...

Pookythebear · 29/05/2019 15:24

When DS1 was 2 I bundled up the toy electric keyboard PILs got him for Christmas to the charity shop - think we got to mid-January with it in the house. He 7 now and actually still asks about it about twice a year, when I give him a vague and shifty reply. I’m going to hell too Grin

Corneliusmurphy · 29/05/2019 15:29

We had a grufflo one and annoying as it was, when the batteries started to die the mouse sound would randomly by itself and the high pitched giggle started sounding frankly demonic especially in the middle of the night. It mysteriously vanished went to be exorcised

WhoKnewBeefStew · 29/05/2019 15:31

Barrie ‘life in the dream house’ lalalalala over here - kill me now arghhhhhhhhh

floraloctopus · 29/05/2019 15:36

In 13 years time you will look back on those musical delights with pleasure.

Purpleartichoke · 29/05/2019 15:51

Clear tape over the speakers. Cuts the volume in half.

floraloctopus · 29/05/2019 15:53

Listen to instead, you'll soon appreciate the books.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 29/05/2019 15:57

We have a house full of noise over here, youngest dds (3 year old twins) have found a box of toy instruments that mysteriously vanished a month ago and were heading for the charity shop , ds is yelling into his PS4 headset, and dd is playing shawn mendes's new song, on repeat, for the 6th time today. joy Hmm

FortheloveofJames · 29/05/2019 16:01

We’ve had to hide the majority of our DS’ books because he literally can’t stop eating them. Guaranteed if it’s gone quiet hes taken himself off somewhere to nibble them. It’s so bloody annoying. No idea why he does it. Nothing is working other than hiding them. So we only get one or two out at a time at the moment and he has to be supervised with them or they just end up all ruined 😂

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 29/05/2019 17:38

I hid a wooden xylophone on top of a wardrobe many months later I moved the wardrobe and nearly knocked myself out with it falling off! My advice chuck in the bin and then they can't hurt you 😂

MRex · 29/05/2019 19:12

@ReanimatedSGB - I like your thinking! When he uses instruments sometimes we can almost imagine that we know which tune he's trying to play. If we sing along he's delighted.

@GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough - I don't get find the drums, xylophone, recorder and bells annoying. Give me until June.

Be good girls and boys for Santa and maybe he'll provide your teenagers with better taste in music. I'm certainly not swapping DS for a stinky big teenager, sorry.

@Purpleartichoke - immediately removed and ten minutes spent extracting the tape from his mouth.

@floraloctopus - that is awful, what have I ever done to you eh?

@Nameisthegame - which book is it? We're always looking for new good books. The Tiger Who Came to Tea and The Little Engine that Could are DS's current daily requirement. (We will not be buying the Gruffalo based on the demonic mouse issue noted above.)

@BeckyAnnLeeman - excellent plan, as soon as DS is sleeping I will put it into action.
