To request people don’t use my toilet at house viewings?

Just that really ...

As obviously it has been used today and it’s grossed me out.

So long as they don't leave a mess I don't see the issue

That IS the issue - far too many people DO leave a mess. Until you have random strangers using your loo, you don't realise how bad some people are with leaving a disgusting mess after they've used it.

Thehappygardener · 29/05/2019 18:51

Wow, I would have been horrified if anyone didn’t let me use their loo when I was looking for a house to buy. I would have wondered why on earth they were concerned.

I also made sure when I was selling my house that there was loads of loo paper, nice soap, towels, and flowers in the loo, etc. We had usually travelled for 2-3 + hours to get to the houses and it’s not always easy to find a cafe, pub or public loo before the house visit.

If anyone had refused to allow me or my husband to use the loo (and no one did) it would have made a very poor impression on me.

Hope you sell quickly 🏠 🏡 ✅

Seriously, I really think you have issues with everything. You really don't like being disagreed with do you??
Report me if you want

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 29/05/2019 18:59

Sorry to out you, OP, but I was one of your potential buyers. I took the liberty of filming the viewing and it all seemed absolutely normal and perfectly reasonable to me.

chalkiegirl · 29/05/2019 19:00

Yes some people are gross! We have recently bought a caravan and are constantly surprised and shocked at the state of the toilets. They are left scrupulously clean by the wardens every day but within a few hours they are often rank, especially the men's.
So no, I wouldn't want to have to clean someone else's skid marks off my home toilet.

AlexaAmbidextra · 29/05/2019 19:04

it could be a discrimination issue

Someone please enlighten me. How can it be a discrimination issue in someone’s own personal home? Where is the legislation that covers this?

annamilo · 29/05/2019 19:05

Are you serious??

flowergrrl77 · 29/05/2019 19:07

What if it was just lifted to look?

It’s not your toilet for much longer anyways, lighten up!

As for the blinds. It’s common for agents to do that to reduce sun damage to your things!

VenusClapTrap · 29/05/2019 19:13

I went to view a car recently. I had travelled a long way and the vendor knew this. As I was leaving, he very kindly asked if I’d like to make use of their facilities before my long drive home. I thought that was very considerate (and also very welcome as he’d made me a nice cup of tea too while I was going through the log book!).

LakieLady · 29/05/2019 19:19

*What do people do when they stay in hotels knowing that other people have shat in those toilets before them?

Piss and shit off the balconies.*

That nearly caused a bladder calamity all over my sofa!

WitchesCauldron · 29/05/2019 19:23

Good lord. Hyacinth Bucket lives !

LarryGreysonsDoor · 29/05/2019 19:33

For the ‘oh my, I’d have to bleach it all afterwards’ crowd; do you do that for all visitors?

Let’s say it’s your sibling’s new partner, you’ve only met them once before but after the 400 mile trip to visit your family with your sibling they ask to use the toilet.
Is that ok? Do you bleach afterwards or simply direct them to the one at the end of the garden?

Kateguide · 29/05/2019 19:35

YABU.
Last time we bought a house, we were relocating. Took over 2 hours to get there. I tried to cram in about 7 or 8 viewings a trip. Sometimes, shock horror, I needed the loo. I always left it as I found it - no dramas.
BTW, in all my 2nd viewings I would flush the loo and check the water pressure upstairs and downstairs just to check there were no plumbing nightmares.

Yeahsurewhatever · 29/05/2019 19:47

I went to an open house and a guy asked to use the bathroom.
Literally everyone, including the owner and the estate agent looked at him like he was deranged.
It's weird.
You go to a public loo or something.

I don't care if it's someone I know.
I accept if it's someone doing work in the house. Except they always leave the seat up and often seem to be unable to keep it in the toilet.
But just a stranger, no thanks. I'd clean it after.

Kazzyhoward · 29/05/2019 19:49

What do people do when they stay in hotels knowing that other people have shat in those toilets before them?

I'd like to think most decent hotels will have cleaned and disinfected the loos between guests!

Allhailthesun · 29/05/2019 19:49

Right so presumably all those “anyone can use my toilet” are fine with “I want to leave my shoes on” too. Because some people think that’s fine ( me) and some find the idea of shoes on inside incredibly rude.

I have no idea why people keep saying they’d leave the loo as they found it. Er yes. But you’re still a stranger - no idea about you, levels of hygiene, your case of thrush etc That’s why most people you don’t know still ask “May I use your loo” rather than people you know who just excuse themselves to use the toilet.

Allhailthesun · 29/05/2019 19:50

Hotels - it’s not my loo.

winniestone37 · 29/05/2019 19:50

I think if you want to sell your house then using the bathroom is a fair request.

canyoubeserious · 29/05/2019 19:51

YABU and ridiculous.

They 'grossed you out' by leaving a toilet seat up. It doesn't take much to upset you does it.

The poster who asks her male guests to sit to wee sounds like an awful, unwelcoming host.

winniestone37 · 29/05/2019 19:52

I once got stuck in an almighty traffic jam for hours on the m4 - total strangers let me use the loo in their caravan and it wouldn't even flush.

seafoodudon · 29/05/2019 19:53

You better hope I don't view your house, I always turn the showers on....one too many bad experiences in student accommodation with very poor plumbing!

Ragwort · 29/05/2019 19:54

I can’t believe this thread, why are you all so precious about toilets? Hmm. And how on earth do you know if men stand or sit, do you supervise them in the toilet?

I manage a small shop, strict company policy not to allow customers to use the staff toilet, I regularly break this rule, it’s a human right to have access to a toilet.

winniestone37 · 29/05/2019 19:55

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll ah ha ha ha ha Grin

msgoody3shoes · 29/05/2019 19:55

Can't bear strangers using my toilet. I had a workman use mine and he left the seat up. Just don't like it 🙈
But I am also a person who won't go to any toilet either.

LarryGreysonsDoor · 29/05/2019 19:55

But you’re still a stranger - no idea about you, levels of hygiene, your case of thrush

Oh sweet baby cheeses. Do you honestly think that you can catch thrush from a toilet seat?

Oh and if I was visiting the house of someone I didn’t know so well I would ask if I could use the toilet because that’s the polite thing to do. Would some of you honestly say no?
