My DD ordered a new washing machine from Argos after a our old one began leaking and we had to have all our floors ripped up and now have to pay for new flooring because our landlord says it is our fault (but that’s another story entirely). We paid extra for the washing machine to be connected and for the old one to be disposed of. All perfectly fine up until then. It was going to take a week to get here but we were okay with that.

Saturday morning comes and we are up early as the only time we had been given was between 7am and 7pm. We cancelled everything for the day, my DD’s father was supposed to be driving up to visit but we rescheduled it. We waited. And waited. My daughter was constantly checking her texts, emails and the Argos site for updates. Nada. By 6:45PM we decided to call Argos. The girl at Argos explained that they had tried to deliver it but couldn’t find parking - this is utter bullshit because we have ample parking to the rear and front of the property (which granted is on the main high street of a small county town) and there is even an Argos shop with a depot literally within a stone’s throw of the flat. We were told we would have to reschedule deliver with DHL and Argos put us through to the office. It had already closed at 2PM and would be open again on Monday.

So we waited. Monday came and we called the number they had given us. Voicemail. We left a message. We found another number that we attempted to ring but they needed a tracking number - we tried to put in the order number Argos had given us, did it work? Did it fuck. My DD managed to find out that the tracking number would be on the senders information (ie Argos). So we rang Argos. They informed us that they didn’t have a tracking number but here is the number for the office (the same fucking number we had already tried and left a message on). We tried again. No luck. Left another message.

We then talked to Argos again and then realised that Monday was a bank holiday in England but not in Scotland and that the DHL office would be on a skeleton staff. Our bad. We would try again on Tuesday.

Tuesday: we rang the DHL offices. The same fucking voicemail! We left multiple messages. We rang Argos and somebody managed to get us through to a real human at DHL. But they couldn’t hear us and hung up. We rang Argos back. My DD was furious and upset at this point.

We told the Argos customer service rep that we wanted to cancel the order and get a refund at this point. We haven’t had a washing machine in over 3 weeks! We shelled out a good amount of money (that we just didn’t have but had to find by making economies). We were done.

Got a full refund. Argos isn’t the problem here. It’s the fucking twats at DHL. They didn’t pick up their phones. They send you round in circles. Is it really so hard to have humans manning the phones?!

In the space of 4 days we have talked to 8 different people at Argos and had to go through the whole bullshit at the start of the phone call with the automated service with each call.

So now we are having to fork out to get our clothes washed at a laundry service because there are no laundrettes nearby and we have nobody who we can ask to use their washing machine.

They're awful. They've cost me over a thousand pounds. They lost, lied and then refound (too late, without explanation) an important package of mine. Rude staff, no accountability and too big to give a shit.

TheQueef · 28/05/2019 13:33

Try AO they have their own drivers.
Although they become your new best mate for a time, texting and calling.

MadSweeney · 28/05/2019 13:58

Second AO, we had a lot of appliances from them last year when we moved and all were delivered the next day hassle free.

Jellyhater · 28/05/2019 23:41

Yep, AO is the way forward.

I wanted ‘next day delivery’ which would have cost an additional £30. I got distracted, left it in the basket and didn’t checkout. I remembered a few hours later and the next day delivery was suddenly free.

They can unplumb old and replumb new. Well worth that cost! Plus you can track the delivery drivers to see what your delivery is due.

e1y1 · 28/05/2019 23:58

They're not known as Dropped Hidden and Lost for nothing.

They have always been continually shit, so much so that the phone company I used to work for broke their contract to change delivery companies as they caused nothing but shit - and as you can imagine dealing with the fall out of people waiting for their mobiles was a great experience.

Sorry OP that does sound a joke, AO do generally get good reviews. Hope you get sorted.

RainbowMum11 · 29/05/2019 00:06

Yep, AO definitely the best IME.

anitagreen · 29/05/2019 00:10

I had this before with Argos I emailed their CEO and had my oven delivered within two hours that day and quite a good goodwill voucher.

Ifigotherewillbedouble · 29/05/2019 00:10

Another vote here for AO - what a nightmare

Ariela · 29/05/2019 00:48

John Lewis are very good

morallybankruptme · 30/05/2019 09:22

I remember a few years ago Argos happily took our money fora new dryer . We stayed in all day on a Saturday for our delivery. At the end of the day we phoned them as it hadn't turned up. Turns out the bastards had taken money for next day delivery BUT had forgotten to book it in for delivery.....morons

PenguinWings · 30/05/2019 14:45

I have not found John Lewis to be very good.

morallybankruptme · 02/06/2019 16:49

@PenguinWings they are almost bankrupt themselves.

GenuineKlatchianPottery · 15/06/2019 07:42

Well after having to wait a couple more weeks due to the refund taking 5 days to go back into my account (isn’t it amazing, the money transfers out immediately but takes 5 days to be returned?Angry) and the new machine being a bit more than the one from Argos we ordered our machine yesterday from AO as recommended. It was £10 for next day delivery and I’m happy to announce that my new machine is now happily working on it’s first load. The guys had been and gone by 7.30 taking the old machine away with them.
Really impressed.
And they refused an offer of tea or coffee and neither of them asked to use the looGrin. Result!
I’m going to be ordering a dishwasher at the end of the month from them too.

glenthebattleostrich · 15/06/2019 07:52

Don't forget to go through top cashback when you buy your dishwasher!

MadSweeney · 15/06/2019 12:40

yeah love AO.
The only sight annoyance is they will call and try and sell you extended warranty in about a month. Just be prepared that its a sales call and you'll be fine.

I had a dryer, dishwasher and American fridge freezer off them in a month last year. Dishwasher was unwrapped with a slight dent in the door about the size of a 2p piece. They immediately offered to take it back or refund me £30. I took the refund.

DontCallMeShitley · 15/06/2019 13:52

DHL will also leave stuff at a different address and not leave a card, you have to take the loss when someone signs for and keeps the item, or find the signature online and work out who it might have gone to.

AO are not as good as people seem to think they are and I have had some pretty awful experiences with them, they flooded the electrics and cupboard by not connecting a pipe before they left. Next time they couldn't be bothered to install so I told them to take the washing machine back. I refuse to ever use them again.

Euronics, however, arrive on time, install, come back and re-install (crap Samsung) then come back and take away and replace with a different machine, always on time, and with no complaints. They don't leave you with leaks and floods, and will come back to re-balance if needed.

VampirateQueen · 15/06/2019 14:17

I was going to suggest AO. I'm glad you used them, I recommend them to everyone. So far I have ordered a tumble dryer, a vacuum cleaner and a lawn mower that came with a lawn strimmer and never had a problem with them at all.
