AIBU or is the rest of the world a bunch of weirdos?

I’m quite disturbed by the fact I am today years old and that apparently I am the only person ever (apart from my daughter) who stands to wipe (at the toilet). I am being called a weirdo but I think everyone else is. Please help!!

It’s not just you it’s a pretty even split. I saw a comedy show in which a guy mentioned this and the whole room was divided on it.

No I’m not the poo troll (didn’t know there was one). Although I have quite horrific ibs so I have been know to overshare

I do it too and I've been concerned I'm the only one!

But when you stand dont your butt cheeks come together, making it more difficult than it has to be?!

My OH and I got into a huge discussion about this last year! He sits, the weirdo...

I frankly can not stand the idea of putting my hand in the toilet bowl??

Ladyvox. I totally hear you about putting your hand in the toilet bowl. It’s all kinds of wrong. My husband also sits and frankly if I had known this 20 years ago it would have been grounds for divorce .

I am currently discussing this with a good friend of mine at work who is clearly a wrong ‘un. But short of sending out an all staff email to ask everyone else I thought I would ask the good people of mumsnet.

How are you putting your hand in the bowl? I lift and lean, my hand is nowhere near the bowl

I stand and turn around to face the bowl and yes I do have a quick look at my poo. Changes in poo can indicate assorts of heath problems.

There was a great long thread about this one somewhere before. I’m sure people don’t want to resurrect it again, being a TAAT and all that.

Each to their own, however. Personally I like to sit. I think it would be more unhygienic standing and wiping as poo and loo paper debris (if you wipe more violently!) are more likely to go on the loo seat / floor etc. Then you would risk more germs wiping that up that putting your hand in the bowl sitting down (although I don’t quite get this to be honest...)

It was quite recent. I know this because I haven't recovered from the shock when I asked my DH and it turned out he's a stander-upper.

Walkamileinmyshoesbeforeujudge IIRC it's healthier for men to actually sit down, it helps the prostate if memory serves correctly.

Are we allowed to be in between the two? I sort of crouch - stand up but maintaining a squatting position so as to be able to wipe properly. Neither fully standing nor fully sitting seem to be the most efficient way of doing things.

Stander and proud- do t get how you could possibly sit and wipe properly. Adopt a ski position and all bits reachable.

I didn’t realise anyone wiped whilst still sitting down!! That’s far more weird than standing up. Why wouldn’t you want to create a bit more room for manoeuvre? And why would you wan to put your hand inside the toilet bowl to wipe your bum?
