AIBU to not wear a bra to a wedding

I’m a guest at a in a few weeks and the dress I’m planning to wear has gaps in the back that mean a normal bra would be visible. At the front the dress has a high neckline and sleeves so all very covered up. I wasn’t planning to wear a bra, but I showed DP the dress on yesterday and he said he thought I should wear one. I could get one of those stick on ones, but I’m not convinced they’re very effective. I’m a D cup but quite pert. Obviously breasts wobble but I’d be completely covered at the front and the dress isn’t see through or anything. What do you think? Is it rude in some way not to wear a bra to a wedding?

YANBU wear whatever you are comfortable with. It's your dress and your boobs.

nrpmum · 28/05/2019 11:57

Tit tape

Laiste · 28/05/2019 12:03

I showed DP the dress on yesterday and he said he thought I should wear one.

Well - he's seen you in it - what is his reason for thinking a bra is needed? Nipples showing? lots of jiggling? bust line hitting too low?

MitziK · 28/05/2019 12:05

If it's a little cold on the day of the wedding, the photos will make it somewhat - erm - clear - that your boobs are free ranging under the material.

managedmis · 28/05/2019 12:07

What colour is it?

Laiste · 28/05/2019 12:10

If your OP is purely a question of is it a political/moral issue then no it's not necessary to wear a bra to a wedding.

If it's about looks then it's about looks.

Why bother spending time and money picking an outfit to look good if you're then going to think ''fuck how it looks i have the right to let my boobs hang free and wild at this wedding!'' Grin

I know you're not saying this OP. It's more as a response to the your boobs do what you like answers Grin

PaintingOwls · 28/05/2019 12:12

I didn't wear a bra to a wedding once. I thought I looked fine in the mirror, it was also a high necked dress. The wedding photos make me regret this decision.

Skittlesandbeer · 28/05/2019 12:17

D cup? Can’t see it working.

Especially when the dancing starts up. Ain’t enough tit tape on the planet for that, love!

Laiste · 28/05/2019 12:22

Skittlesandbeer Grin I'd knock myself out cold if i tried a good old boogie with mine unfettered.

ferrymeoff · 28/05/2019 12:24

I expect the bride will expect the guests to be looking at her and not your pert and unfettered D cup breasts

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 28/05/2019 12:25

You can get cups sewn in

IncrediblySadToo · 28/05/2019 12:26

If you want everyone talking about you, go ahead ‍🤷🏻‍♀️

HollowTalk · 28/05/2019 12:26

I think it would look very attention seeking.

flowery · 28/05/2019 12:26

Not rude. Unwise though probably, as unless you have virtually no boobs at all your silhouette is unlikely to be flattering and wobble/nipples showing issues aren’t likely to do you any favours.

It will definitely be noticeable that you’re not wearing a bra and I wouldn’t want to be noticeable in an outfit for that reason.

WhoKnewBeefStew · 28/05/2019 12:27

Up to you, if you think it looks ok and won’t feel uncomfortable on the day.

You can buy bras that are designed for low back dresses tho

FizzyGreenWater · 28/05/2019 12:27

Can't you get one of those crossover low at the back ones or something??

If you're a d-cup it's going to be obvious. So as others have said, if this is a discussion about how the outfit will look (as opposed to a political bra discussion to which the answer is obviously do whatever you like) - I would say that a high-necked dress and no bra and d cup is possibly not going to look at all as good, everything's going to be 'slung' lower than normal, pert or not.

Maybe try on whole outfit with and without bra and get H to take a pic of whole body silhouette?

AlaskaSometimes · 28/05/2019 12:28

Stick on bras are great. Wore one out dancing last night and it held everything perfectly! I’m a c cup.

Smokesandeats · 28/05/2019 12:28

As a D cup, you need to wear a different outfit or wear a low back bra under the dress. Don’t go braless. You

HunterHearstHelmsley · 28/05/2019 12:30

I didn't wear a bra to a wedding last year. I was wearing a nude jumpsuit and I couldn't find any suitable bras. It wasn't obvious unless you were staring (and if anyone was staring, that's on them).

Birdie6 · 28/05/2019 12:32

When you are standing still , looking in a mirror, you might think that braless is OK, but it isn't OK when you are walking around. It looks sloppy and wobbly. There are plenty of bras for backless dresses - just go to a bra shop, they'll be able to supply one for you.

Dahlietta · 28/05/2019 12:33

Unless your husband is a Victorian, I think the fact that he's the only person who has seen you in the dress and he thinks you should wear a bra is probably significant.

YesQueen · 28/05/2019 12:34

D cup means nothing without the band
A 28D is tiny, a 44D not so much

Lellochip · 28/05/2019 12:35

I'm an E/F and have worn the tape from perkypear.com with backless dresses, surprisingly supportive. They're not cheap though, but if you've got a dress that just won't work with any sort of bra I'd recommend (sure there's plenty of similar ones, that's just the brand I've tried)

VanGoghsDog · 28/05/2019 12:35

Well, I'm an E cup and I'd be happy to go braless if I felt the dress looked OK and the fabric wasn't going to mean my nipples could be seen - though you can get those stickers go over nipples anyway.

I wouldn't knock myself out dancing, though there would be more jiggling than I'm generally used to. But I really doubt anyone would notice unless the fabric was very see-through.

Cheeseandwin5 · 28/05/2019 12:35

You have asked your DH opinion and he has given it to you. Whether you take that on board is up to you.
I would say that if your husband notices I suspect others will too, especially if you plan to dance etc.
