To think people who own more than 3 properties should have a special tax applied to them?

I'm just thinking with the housing crisis, should people really own more than 3 properties? I would assume it's a property portfolio and used to exploit renters. AIBU to think there should be a special tax applied to property owners who own more than 3 properties? Maybe tax them at a really high rate to discourage people from hoarding property.

I think people fail to realise that ‘landlord’ has always been an actual job. Owning, maintaining and renting property is a full time, legitimate job for some people. They also pay tax like everyone else and built their business up with hard graft and investment like any business.

I live in a property that was empty for over a year & needs full refurbishment. Nobody wanted to buy it. We are doing the improvements slowly over a few years

I have 2 other properties that were fully paid off before I rented them out.
I've spent time, effort & money doing all the improvements & repairs eg new windows, decorated, new kitchen, new carpets. The cost of the improvements was less, because we did some of the work ourselves on our days off work

I pay stamp duty & taxes

I rent out at below market rate, with no deposit

I donate money to charity
I'm generous with my family & friends
I drive an old banger car

I could have bought shares or premium bonds with my savings, but I chose property instead

MN, They already pay increased taxes. Quite highly as well.
Op. Increase it more then and the money can be used for social housing. But no new houses to be built due to the environment.
MN then where will these houses come from that local authorities will buy?
Op the landlords with more than three properties will sell them to the councils as social housing.
Mn, but if they are the ones whose tax will buy them, but they sell them they aren't paying tax so there will be no money to buy them.?
Op but if they sell them house prices will drop and more people can afford to buy houses.
Mn, but a huge amount won't be able to, no matter how cheap, where will these people live,because there will be less rentals? And with less rentals prices soar. And what happened to your plan of the local authority's buying them? Now it's people?

@calltheguards I've explained the economics, and was polite throughout. It does seem that you aren't really engaging with the arguments being set forth. I sympathise greatly with @bluntness100, you have to accept it is frustrating when all of our responses are ignored in favour of ever more bizarre stances.

Can one of the posters who wants all landlords to...well... stop being landlords.... tell me where the university students will live during term time?

It could be she's a landlord already and knows about the additional tax and is just being goady as fuck. No one who has mental health issues or illness is batshit, no one should even consider an association. They are ill, unwell the same as any other illness. Why would you associate the word batshit, just why?

I still want to know how much people think the prices would fall and where would FTBs get that money for deposots. That's one of the big arguments: Landlords sell up, proces fall and FTBs can afford to buy. How? Where is the deposit coming from? How much will prices fall?

Landlords do pay a special tax, they pay stamp duty when they buy the house and capital gains tax when they sell it on if the property is over a certain amount. Also they pay tax on earnings.
